The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here, and I’ve got to be straight with you – this outlook for Asling’s Beach is a tough one to write. We’re looking at a 16-day window that starts with a real blank run. To be honest, there isn’t a single decent surf option in the whole forecast period. The first few days are a write-off with tiny, weak swell and poor conditions, and the pattern just doesn’t let up.
For the first week, from Wednesday the 15th right through to the end of the weekend, we’ve got next to nothing. The swell is barely a ripple, mostly around 0.3ft to 2ft from the south or southeast, and the energy is pathetic – you’re looking at combined energy readings as low as 17 to 56 (weak). Even when the wind goes glassy on Friday morning the 17th, with a light WNW breeze, there’s just no swell to work with. The water temp is sitting at 60°F which is pretty much bang on average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
The second week doesn’t offer much hope either. From Monday the 21st onwards, we’re still stuck in the same rut. The swell barely tickles 1ft most days, and the energy stays weak – mostly two-digit values under 100. There’s a slight bump on Saturday the 25th afternoon when the wind goes glassy and a 2ft swell from the south shows up, but the energy is still only 79 (weak) and the period is short at 9 seconds. It’s a clean-looking window, but it’s not going to give you a wave worth paddling for.
The only real change comes right at the end of the outlook, around the 26th and 27th of July. The swell height climbs to 2ft to 3ft from the SSE, and the combined energy finally pushes into the moderate range – 123 on the 26th morning and 186 on the 27th morning. The period stretches to 10-12 seconds, which is a bit better. But here’s the kicker: every single entry in the data still says “poor surf conditions.” The wind is cross or cross-shore, and the swell direction is from the SSE, which is sheltered for this break. It’s just not set up to work.
By the 28th of July, we see a spike to 5ft from the south with a combined energy of 429 (moderate), but the wind is cross and the comments stay poor. That’s too big for a beginner, but for an expert, it’s still messy and not clean.
Overall, this is one of those rare blank runs where the area just doesn’t deliver. If you’re desperate for a paddle, the glassy windows on the 25th afternoon or the 26th morning might offer a few tiny, clean rolls, but don’t expect much. For consistent, good surf, you’ll be waiting. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d say leave the board at home.
Rusty.
