The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break down what’s coming for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it’s looking pretty flat. The first few days are a total write-off, not even a ripple worth mentioning. We’re gonna have to wait a bit.
The first real chance to get wet is Friday morning, August 28th, at Asling's Beach. It’s a sheltered little nook, so it takes a bit to get it going. We’re looking at a tiny 3ft swell from the SSE, with a 10-second interval. The combined energy is moderate at 175, but the big win is the wind. It’s dead calm, glassy. That’s a huge plus for a spot this small. The water temp is about normal for this time of year. The swell direction is SSE, which is close enough to the SE the spot prefers.
Saturday morning, the 29th, is another one to have on your radar. Another glassy morning, with a similar 3ft, 10-second swell from the SE. The energy is a bit lower at 127, but it’ll be clean. Nothing massive, but for a beginner-friendly wave, it’ll be a fun, easy morning. Because it’s a fairly consistent break, you’ll get enough waves to keep you moving.
After that, it goes dead again. There’s a real gap in the middle of the week, with tiny, weak energy and the combined energy dropping into the single digits. The swell period gets all over the place. It’s a real bummer.
Then, we get a late push. On the morning of Saturday, September 5th, the swell jumps to 2ft from the SE with a 14-second interval. That’s a long-period groundswell, and the combined energy hits 214. The wind is a clean cross-off from the WSW, which will give the waves a nice shape. For a sheltered south-east facing spot, that’s a good look. The period is long, so it’ll have some proper power, but it might be a bit close-out for a beach break. Still, it’s the best juice of the whole run.
So, the highlights are the early glassy sessions on the 28th and 29th of August, and the bigger, cleaner groundswell on the 5th of September. The rest of the window is a quiet one. The biggest lull is from the 30th of August through the 4th of September, with barely a wave to be had.
