G’day, Rusty here. Look, we’ve got a bit of a mixed bag on our hands for the next couple of weeks at Asling’s Beach. It’s a sheltered little beginner-friendly spot, so don’t go expecting big, grunty waves. We’re starting off pretty slow, with a few days of marginal, choppy conditions before we finally get a window of something decent. There’s a real standout morning coming up, so hold tight.
The first few days are a bit of a write-off to be honest. Monday the 6th is a no-go – we’ve got a 5ft swell from the SE but it’s saddled with a cross-on breeze and the combined energy is moderate at best (405). Tuesday the 7th is similar, a bit of a bumpy mess with a 4ft ESE groundswell (744), but the period is a nice long 13 seconds – still, that cross-shore and cross-on wind ruins it. Wednesday the 8th has the same story: some clean-ish morning conditions with a 5ft SE swell (699) but the wind is cross, making it just ordinary. Afternoon on Wednesday turns onshore and ugly.
Now, Thursday the 9th morning is where things start to look up. We get a glassy, offshore breeze from the WSW and a 4ft SE swell (292). The energy is weak to moderate, but when it’s glassy like this, the waves will be clean and fun for a beginner or a longboard. It’s surfable but very ordinary – still the best we’ve seen so far.
Friday the 10th morning is another decent option. An offshore NNW breeze at 3 mph and a clean 3ft SE swell (180). Again, weak energy, but clean. The afternoon gets messy again.
Saturday the 11th is actually pretty consistent for a change. Both morning and afternoon see clean conditions with a light cross-offshore breeze and a 3ft ESE swell (189 to 205). It’s small, but it’s clean and rideable on the right tide. The energy is still weak.
Now, from Sunday the 12th through to Wednesday the 15th, it’s pretty much a blank run. The swell drops right off – we’re talking 1.0ft to 2ft with very low energy (60 down to 14). Not worth paddling out for. Thursday the 16th morning, though, watch out – an 8ft SSE swell rolls in (1675), but with a moderate cross-shore wind and strong energy. That’s expert-only territory for this sheltered beach, and the conditions are marginal at best. Not a day for the average punter.
The real standout is a couple of mornings in the second week. Friday, July 17th morning is your best bet. We’ve got a clean, cross-offshore WSW breeze and a solid 5ft SE swell (496) with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is moderate, the wind is clean, and it’s forecast for good surf conditions. This is the pick of the whole period. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Saturday the 18th morning is also good – a clean cross-offshore N breeze and a 5ft ESE swell (548) with a longer 11-second period. Good conditions again. Afternoon drops off a bit.
After that, it fades away again into tiny, weak surf from Sunday the 19th onwards, so get in while you can. Crowds at Asling’s Beach can pop up sometimes, especially on a clean day, so keep that in mind.
Rusty.
