The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and listen up – this is Rusty.
To be honest, looking at the next 16 days, it’s a tough stretch for Asling’s Beach. This spot is sheltered, so it needs a specific window to work, and we just aren't getting it. The whole forecast period is a bit of a flat spell. There’s a big gap of nothing worthwhile from now until the end of the month, and then even into the first week of August, the numbers just don't stack up. The swell is tiny, the energy is weak, and the conditions are poor for our needs.
Let’s break it down. Starting Friday the 17th, we’ve got a tiny 1ft SSE swell pushing in, but with a cross-shore NE breeze at 6 mph, the surface is going to be a mess. The combined energy is a weak 23, so there’s not much to work with. Saturday the 18th starts glassy, but the swell drops to 0.3ft – that’s not enough to push a flea off a leaf. Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th are similar; glassy mornings, but the swell barely reaches 0.7ft to 1ft, with a combined energy topping out at 43. That’s just not enough to form a proper wave.
The water temp is sitting at 59°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The whole second week looks the same. We see a few days with a bit more wind, like Thursday the 23rd with a 2ft S swell, but the period is a pathetic 3 seconds, and the wind is 12 mph. The energy is a weak 10. It’s the same story right through to the end of the month. The swell is always small, the period is short, and the wind is wrong. The best we see is maybe a 1ft swell on the 28th with a 14-second period and a clean offshore wind, but the combined energy is only 67, and the wave comment says "poor surf conditions". It’s just not worth the paddle.
For the first few days of August, it’s a repeat. The swell is still under 2ft, and the energy is weak. There is no standout day, no period where the swell, wind, and tide all align. It’s a flat spell, plain and simple. If you’re desperate, you might find a tiny knee-high wave with a glassy wind on a few of the morning sessions, but don’t expect anything to get you excited.
Hang in there. Forecasts can change, and this stretch won't last forever.
Rusty.
