The Lowdown

Alright, grab your board. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer.

Right now, Centre Crack is pretty much a write-off for the next couple of days. We’ve got a long wait ahead. The first chance for anything decent won’t come until Friday 07 August. That’s a solid few days of sitting on the beach.

The water temperature is sitting at 56°F at Centre Crack, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

The real standout window kicks off on Friday 07 August. The morning sees a nice 4ft SW groundswell, with a period of 15 seconds – that’s proper long-period energy. The wind is cross-off out of the NW at 15 mph, keeping things clean. The combined energy is strong (1004), and by the afternoon, the wind drops to glassy, absolutely zero. Surf’s looking clean, lined up, and very good. This is the pick of the whole forecast.

The next morning, Saturday 08 August, still has good 4ft SW swell, but the wind cranks up to 19 mph from the north. It’s cross-off, so it’s clean, but that fresh breeze will make it more of a challenge. The quality drops off.

The swell gets bigger around Monday 10 August, with a 10ft SW swell, but the wind is howling 28 mph from the WSW, making it a messy cross-shore. That’s kite-surfing territory, not paddle surfing. The combined energy is massive (5828), but the conditions are poor.

There’s a tantalising, but less certain, window on Wednesday 19 August. The morning offers 5ft SW swell, 16-second period, and a light cross-off. The combined energy is strong (1036), and the forecast says “very good” conditions. But with it being so far out, it’s promising but not locked in yet.

The best bet is clear: Friday 07 August, especially the afternoon glass-off. That’s the one to circle.
