The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cooking at Whispering Waves. This is a point break that likes a south swell, and the next couple of weeks are going to be a real mixed bag – we’ve got a few absolutely magic windows, some wild, raw energy, and a proper lull to finish.
The first good surf is on Sunday the 19th. It’s not the biggest, but it’s clean. We’re looking at a 4ft swell from the SE, with a period of 11 seconds. The water is sitting at 67°F, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. The wind is glassy, and combined wave energy is moderate (782). It’s not a standout, but it’s a nice, easy introduction.
Monday the 20th is where it starts to get interesting. The swell picks up to 5ft from the SE, the period stretches to 12 seconds, and the wind is offshore and clean. The energy jumps to a solid 1104. This is proper, and it’s setting up beautifully. If you’re an experienced surfer, this is going to be a treat.
Now, the real standout of the whole run is Thursday the 24th. That morning, we’ve got a 10ft swell from the SSW, with an incredibly long 18-second period. The combined energy is a massive 4667 – that’s strong, deep ocean energy. This is a serious groundswell. The wind is onshore, which is a bit of a bummer, but for experts only at this size, it’s still a raw, powerful session. The period is so long that it will be breaking straight at the beach, but at a point break like this, it should hold up and offer some deep, heavy lines. After that, it drops off quickly into the afternoon with onshore wind and a 8ft swell.
The next real highlight is Saturday the 25th. The swell settles back to a much more manageable 6ft to 7ft from the SSW, with a 15-second period and clean, light offshore to cross-off winds. The energy is still strong (1634). This is your best all-rounder: good size, good shape, clean conditions. This is the one to circle on the calendar.
After that, it’s a long, slow decline. From Sunday the 26th right through to the end of the month, the wind is mostly onshore and the swell drops below 5ft. The energy gets weak. For a few days around the 29th and 30th, it’s basically blown out with fresh onshore wind and not much wave. There’s a long gap of poor conditions here.
We get a little flicker of life on the 2nd of August. A 5ft glassy morning from the SE, with a 10-second period and moderate energy (675). It’s a nice little clean-up session, but nothing to scream about.
The final few days of the forecast are small and weak – 2ft to 3ft from the SE, with glassy or clean conditions and very low energy. It’s a quiet end to the run.
Bottom line: The absolute best windows are Monday the 20th morning and Saturday the 25th. If you’re a charger, the Thursday the 24th morning is a serious, expert-only session. The rest of the time, you’ll be picking through small, clean leftovers or battling the onshore junk.
Rusty.
