Table - best surf conditions forecast for Whispering Waves over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty, and I’ve been looking at the surf for the next couple of weeks. Let’s get straight into it.
The only real option on the table is Whispering Waves, a point break that’s exposed to the swell and picks up a fair bit of energy. It’s inconsistent, so don’t expect it to be pumping every minute, but when it lines up, it can be a treat. The set-up is a point, so longer-period swells will tend to wrap in nicely. Water temp is sitting about average for the time of year, which is fine.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start – nothing of note until Thursday the 16th. The first real push comes in Thursday morning with a solid 5ft SW swell, period around 10 seconds, and a clean offshore wind from the SSW at 9 mph. The combined energy is strong (1273), and the conditions are clean and offshore. This is good for intermediate to experienced surfers – a bit too big for beginners. That Thursday afternoon the swell drops a touch to 4ft, but the wind stays cross-offshore and light, so it’s still clean.
Friday 17th and Saturday 18th keep the momentum going. Friday morning has smaller 3ft SSW swell but with a long 13-second period, glassy conditions, and light wind. It’s clean but on the smaller side. The better part of Friday is the afternoon with 5ft SSW swell and 12-second period, still cross-offshore and clean. Saturday also looks good – morning has 4ft S swell, offshore wind, clean. The afternoon picks up to 5ft S swell, offshore at 9 mph, and the energy stays moderate (766). All very rideable.
Sunday 19th is a standout for the first week. The morning has 6ft SSW swell (984 energy) and a fresh 19 mph offshore wind – it’s clean but that wind is pushing hard. The real story is Sunday afternoon: 10ft SSW swell, 11-second period, and a strong 25 mph offshore wind. That’s a lot of water moving – combined energy of 1981, which is very strong. This is expert territory only. The point should handle it well, but paddling in will be a battle. Don’t take beginners anywhere near it.
Monday 20th is a write-off – onshore wind and small swell, no good.
Tuesday 21st bounces back. Afternoon is the pick: 6ft SSW swell with a very long 16-second period, 12 mph offshore wind, and energy of 1565. This is a proper groundswell. The point will love it – long, clean lines. Again, for experienced surfers only.
Wednesday 22nd keeps it solid. Morning has 6ft SSW swell, 14-second period, light offshore wind, clean. The afternoon is similar at 6ft, still clean, cross-offshore wind. Both sessions have strong energy (1492 and 1230). Very good.
Thursday 23rd is a bit of a mixed bag. The morning has a cross-on wind, but the afternoon is glassy – zero wind, 6ft SSW swell, 13-second period, and 1047 energy. That’s a window of perfection. Get in the water then.
After that, the second week gets patchy. Friday 24th has offshore wind but smaller swell and moderate energy. Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th are onshore and poor. Monday 27th morning looks interesting – glassy conditions, 5ft SSW swell, 15-second period, and 964 energy. That’s a long-period groundswell with no wind. It’s promising but further out, so keep an eye on it.
Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th have some offshore wind but smaller swell, and the wind gets strong on Wednesday afternoon – 28 mph offshore, which is clean but hard to paddle into. Thursday 30th morning has a short-period 6-second swell at 5ft – that’s weak and messy, not great. Friday 31st is onshore and blown out.
The absolute best on offer is Sunday 19th afternoon for the big, powerful, clean swell – but only for experts. For a more manageable session, Tuesday 21st afternoon and Thursday 23rd afternoon are the standouts. The inconsistent nature of the break means you’ll want to be there when it’s on.
Rusty.
