Alright, this is Rusty comin' at ya from the beach. We've got a pretty special run shaping up over the next couple of weeks at one spot, and it’s worth paying attention to.
First things first, we're looking at Whispering Waves, a point break here that's exposed to the swell. It's an inconsistent wave, so when it lines up, you gotta be on it. Right now, it's about to come alive.
Monday the 6th kicks things off with a surprising little pulse. It’s not big, we're talking 3ft to 3ft of swell, but the key here is the wind. It's glassy in the morning and that carries on through the afternoon with a slight offshore breeze. The swell is coming from the SE with a period of 10 seconds, and there's a moderate amount of energy in the water (204). It’s small, but it’ll be clean and rideable.
Tuesday the 7th is a step up. The wind has swung SW and is blowing a clean 9 mph offshore. The swell drops a little to 2ft, but it's backed around to the SW and has a long period of 14 seconds. That means proper groundswell lines with shape and power, even for the size. The combined energy is solid (203). Both morning and afternoon are worth a paddle.
Wednesday the 8th gets a bit trickier. The morning still has clean, moderate offshore wind at 16 mph, with a 3ft SW swell at that same nice 14-second period, and the energy is building (306). But by the afternoon, the wind picks up to 19 mph and the swell collapses to a weak 1ft on a 9-second SE pulse. The energy drops right off (31). The morning is your window.
Now here is where it gets real interesting. Thursday the 9th is your first standout. The swell jumps to 7ft from the SSW, with a period of 13 seconds. The wind is a clean, moderate offshore at 16 mph. The combined energy is surging into the moderate-to-strong range (1373). This is proper, powerful surf for experienced surfers. The morning is the pick.
Friday the 10th is the absolute pinnacle. By the morning, we've got a 10ft SSW swell hitting with a 14-second period. The wind is a light 6 mph offshore. The energy is reading a massive 3255 – that's strong, powerful stuff. This is big, clean, groundswell. For a point break, this could be truly epic. The afternoon sees the wind shift onshore and the size drop a bit to 8ft, so the window is the early session.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are write-offs. Strong onshore wind and messy conditions. We also get some short-period windswell mixing in.
There's a gap here, but then it starts to build again. Monday the 13th sees a 5ft SSW swell with a 14-second period returning, with light cross-offshore wind and excellent energy (1275). A great secondary session.
Tuesday the 14th holds in the 5ft to 6ft range with clean conditions, but it shifts to a SSE direction with a shorter 10 to 11-second period.
The real cracker in the second week looks to be Thursday the 16th. The afternoon session is a standout. We get a 7ft SSW swell with a period of 15 seconds – that is *very* long-period groundswell. The wind has dropped to glassy, with a slight air from the SSE. The combined energy is massive (2178). This will be heavy, clean, and perfect for the point. It’s over 7ft, so it’s for experts only, but for those who can handle it, this is the second real highlight.
The run fades out after that. The following days are smaller and get chopped up by onshore winds. Saturday the 18th has one final hurrah with clean, gentle offshore wind and surf around 4ft, but the energy is dropping. After that, it's a block of small, onshore wind-swell until the 21st.
Best of the lot? If you can only go once, Friday morning the 10th is the one. Big, clean, powerful, and offshore. The second best is Thursday afternoon the 16th – glassy, long-period, and just as heavy. Keep in mind, crowds are *sometimes* a thing here, but on a day with that kind of size, the lineup will sort itself out.
Stay safe, surf smart.
