Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Whispering Waves.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a tricky start. The surf is around, but the conditions are a bit of a mixed bag. The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is a solid 5° colder than usual for this time of year – that’s a noticeable chill, so don’t forget the booties if you’re heading out.
We kick off on Thursday afternoon, July 2nd. There’s a solid 10-foot SW swell with an 11-second period, but that 25 mph cross-off wind is making it a bit of a battle. The energy is strong (2010), but it’s really only for the experienced crew looking for a challenge.
Friday, July 3rd, is where things start to look better. The morning has a 10-foot S swell and cleaner conditions with a lighter 9 mph cross-off wind. The energy is ramping up (2702). The real standout window is Friday afternoon though. We’re looking at an 12-foot SSE swell at 13 seconds, with the wind dropping to a light 6 mph cross-off, making for some clean, powerful waves. The energy is pumping (4054). This is expert territory, but it’s the best quality of the early period.
Saturday, July 4th, is a solid shout for a surf. The swell drops to a more manageable 8 feet from the SE, with a long 12-second period. The wind is near glassy at 3 mph, keeping the surface clean. Combined energy is still strong (1889). This is a great window for experienced surfers looking for a more comfortable session than Friday.
Sunday, July 5th, the wind shifts onshore, and the swell drops off. The quality tanks. From Sunday afternoon right through to Tuesday afternoon, July 7th, it’s a real struggle. The swell is small and weak, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-on. It’s a few days of poor to marginal conditions.
Now, hold on to your boards, because Thursday, July 9th, is the big one. Thursday morning is shaping up to be exceptional. A massive 15-foot SSW swell with a 14-second period is going to be smashing into the point. This is a very long period groundswell, so it will be threatening to race and wall up, perfect for a point break like this one. The wind is a moderate 12 mph offshore, keeping it clean. The combined energy is off the charts at 11114. This is for experts only – way too big for anyone else. The afternoon is still pumping at 12 feet, but the wind goes light cross-off, so it’s still clean.
After that, the picture gets messy again. From Friday, July 10th, through to Wednesday, July 15th, it’s a long stretch of onshore winds and generally poor conditions. The swell is often over 6 feet, but with the wind making a mess of it, it’s not worth paddling out for a wave.
We get a small reprieve on Thursday, July 16th, with a clean 5-foot E swell on a light cross-off wind. It’s not huge, but it’s a clean option for a smaller board.
Finally, looking way out to Friday, July 17th, there’s another big pulse forecast. An 12-foot SW swell at 13 seconds is expected, but the wind is onshore and light. It’s a promising long-range signal, but it's a week and a half away, so keep an eye on the forecasts.
The standout sessions are clear: Friday afternoon, July 3rd, for the clean, powerful expert waves, and Thursday morning, July 9th, for the massive, clean groundswell for the big-wave crew. The rest of the period is mostly a write-off.
