The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's cookin' at Whispering Waves.
Alright, we've got a bit of a mixed bag comin' up over the next couple of weeks, but there are some absolute gems in there if you're patient. The water temp is sittin' right on the money at 69°, dead average for this time of year, so no nasty surprises on that front.
The first real standout hits on Thursday the 20th of August in the arvo. Whispering Waves is a point break that's exposed to the south, and we've got a solid 8ft swell rollin' in from the SSW. It's a long-period groundswell at 15 seconds, packin' some serious grunt with a combined energy of 2925. The wind's a gentle cross-off from the south at 9 mph, keepin' things clean. This is proper, powerful surf for experienced surfers. The sets will have some time between 'em, makin' the paddle out a bit easier, but it's a fair step up in size. Friday the 21st morning is lookin' real clean too – 5ft from the SSW with a 13-second period, 722 combined energy, and just a slight air from the south. Expect very good conditions.
Now, Friday arvo the wind swings and chops it up, so that's a write-off. Saturday the 22nd morning has a clean 5ft SSW swell with a 14-second period and a fresh offshore breeze from the southwest at 19 mph. The combined energy is a hefty 1315. It'll be clean, but that 5ft might feel a bit full-on for beginners. Saturday arvo, forget it – that's a near gale at 31 mph, and the short 8-second period on an 12ft wave is just gonna be a messy, blown-out wall for experts only.
Sunday the 23rd morning is another good one – 5ft SSW at 10 seconds with a light offshore breeze from the southwest. Clean, fun waves. The best of the early run, though, is Tuesday the 25th morning. We're back to a 6ft, 15-second groundswell from the SSW, rippin' with 1429 combined energy and a light cross-off wind from the west at 3 mph. For a point break, that long-period swell will line up beautifully. This is a sweet session.
We hit a dry spell from Wednesday the 26th through to Saturday the 30th of August. Onshore winds, choppy conditions, and small, weak swells make for poor surf. Just a few days to give the board a rest, that's normal.
Things start to look interestin' again on Tuesday the 1st of September morning. We've got a 5ft, 7-second swell from the southwest with a light cross-off breeze from the south – clean and rideable, with 702 combined energy. But the *real* standout, the one you circle on the calendar, is Thursday the 3rd of September morning. This is a monster. Whispering Waves is gonna see a 13ft SSW swell with a 16-second period. The combined energy is an eye-waterin' 7373. The wind is a slight air from the SSE, so it'll be clean. This is only for experts only, no question. Thursday arvo, it gets even bigger – 18ft from the SW, period 15 seconds, 18240 combined energy, and the wind goes glassy. This is a huge, rare event. For a point break, that long-period groundswell will be a sight to behold. It's over a week away, so keep an eye on it, but if it comes together, it's the one.
Rusty.
