The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's talk about what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks.
It's a bit of a slow start, but mark my words, this place has some serious potential if you're patient. The wave energy is building from the south, and when it aligns with the right wind, there are some absolute gems on offer.
The first real chance to get wet comes on Tuesday afternoon, the 18th. Whispering Waves is seeing a 3ft SSW swell, but with a short period of 8 seconds, it's got a bit of mushy energy (237). The wind is blowing offshore from the SSW, so it'll be clean. It's not the biggest, but it's a paddle.
Wednesday the 19th is where things get interesting. The morning is a write-off with onshore wind, but the afternoon... oh boy. The wind swings to a light S, going cross-offshore, and the swell bumps up to 4ft from the SSW with a much longer 14-second period. That's proper groundswell energy (710) and the wave comment says 'very good'. This is a highlight.
Now, if you're an experienced surfer, circle Thursday the 20th afternoon. The swell jumps to 8ft from the SSW with a perfect 15-second period. That's a massive 2665 energy reading. The wind is light from the south, keeping it clean. This is borderline too big for the average weekend warrior, but for the crew who know what they're doing, it's going to be a standout session. The morning of the 20th is also good with a 3ft SSW swell and offshore wind, but the afternoon is the real deal.
We get a bit of a lull over the weekend with strong onshore winds and a big, powerful 10ft swell on Saturday the 22nd that is going to be a nightmare to paddle into. The wind is so strong it's near gale force. That setup is more for kite surfers than paddle surfers honestly.
The next solid window opens up on Sunday the 23rd. The morning is a winner: a 7ft SSW swell with a 12-second period and strong offshore winds (1160 energy). The wave comment says 'excellent for experienced surfers' and I agree. The afternoon stays clean but the wind is cross-offshore.
The good run continues into Monday the 24th with a clean 4ft swell, and Tuesday the 25th morning has a 6ft SSW swell with a long 14-second period, but it's a bit cross-on, so it's a bit 'marginal' but still worth a look for the energy.
The final absolute standout is the tail end of the run. Friday the 28th of August morning looks magic. A 6ft SSE swell with a 14-second period, and light winds from the south. The energy is a powerful 1204 and the wave comment says 'excellent'. For the first week of September, the mornings look promising with offshore winds, but the swell is smaller, around 4ft.
All in all, the best days are Thursday the 20th afternoon for the big wave crew, and Friday the 28th morning for the clean, powerful, all-rounder conditions. This is a point break, so it handles the long period stuff well. The water temp is sitting at 69°F, which is pretty much normal for this time of year.
Rusty.
