Table - best surf conditions forecast for Whacky Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the next couple of weeks at Whacky Point. This is a tricky spot, a beach and point setup that’s inconsistent and needs the right conditions to really fire. It's an advanced break, so we're not talking about a learner's playground.
The first real window of opportunity kicks off on the morning of Sunday, July 12th. We’ve got a solid 6ft S swell rolling in with a healthy 12-second period, and the combined energy is sitting at a solid 820 (moderate). The real kicker? The wind is glassy from the NE. This is going to be clean, lined-up surf. The optimum swell direction is from the south, and this is exactly that, so expect some proper waves. This is the standout session of the first week.
Sunday afternoon, things get messy with a risk of thunderstorms and onshore wind, so don't be late. The next few days, Monday and Tuesday, see the swell direction shifting to the east with a shorter period. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, which makes it hard to get excited. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
We get a brief reprieve on Wednesday morning, July 15th. A 5ft E swell with a 9-second period, but the wind is offshore from the SW, offering a clean, gentle offshore window. It's a decent session, but not the standout.
Now, hold on to your wetsuits. The second week gets interesting. Friday afternoon, July 17th, a serious pulse of SSW swell arrives, pushing 10ft with a 12-second period and a massive 2703 (very strong) energy reading. But, the wind is cross-offshore and the report says "marginal surf or questionable tide conditions." This is a big, powerful swell that will be too much for most, and the direction is a bit more south than the optimum S, so it might be a bit raw. This is one for the experts only, and given the crowds are "sometimes" there, it could be a heavy session.
The true standout of the entire outlook, however, is on the morning of Friday, July 24th, and the morning of Monday, July 27th. On the 24th, we have a 5ft SSW swell with a very long 14-second period, and 1579 (strong) energy. The wind is glassy from the NW. This is a dream scenario. Long-period SSW groundswell with glassy conditions. That is a recipe for clean, powerful, well-shaped point waves. The 27th is similar, with a 6ft SSW swell, 15-second period, strong energy of 1161 (moderate/strong), and again, glassy conditions from the E. These mornings are the best on offer, but remember, the long period means the swell might be a bit too straight for the beach break sections, but the point should be absolutely cooking.
Outside of these windows, most of the 16 days are either blown out, too small, or have poor wind. There's a long gap of poor to non-existent surf from the 20th of July until the 22nd, and then again after the 27th the period ends. So, make your plans for the 12th, the 24th, and the 27th mornings. Stay frosty.
Rusty.
