Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what’s cooking over the next couple weeks.
We’ve got a solid pulse of energy on the way, but it’s not for the faint of heart. Whacky Point is an advanced spot that doesn’t fire all that often, so when it lines up, you pay attention. The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is much colder than normal for this time of year – a good 5° below average, so you’ll want a thick suit.
The first standout is Friday the 3rd. Morning at Whacky Point is looking prime with a strong 10ft SW swell, a period of 11 seconds, and a clean offshore breeze from the WSW. The wave energy is pumping hard (4441), which tells you there’s a lot of power in the water. This is expert territory only – it’s going to be big, powerful, and not for beginners. The afternoon holds up nicely too, with a slightly longer 12-second SSE swell and light cross-off wind, but the morning is the real gem.
Saturday the 4th keeps the quality high. The swell drops just a touch to 8ft from the SE, but the period stretches to 12 seconds. With a light offshore wind in the morning, expect clean, well-shaped waves. The energy is still very strong (1905). This is another day that should reward the experienced crew.
Now, things get quiet and messy from Sunday the 5th through to Wednesday the 8th. The swell drops off quickly, winds turn onshore or get too strong, and the quality just isn’t there. A real lull in the action.
But then, look ahead to Thursday the 9th. This is another proper standout, further out but promising. Morning brings a 8ft SSW groundswell at 11 seconds, with glassy conditions – dead calm wind from the south. The energy is massive again (1518). For a spot that’s inconsistent, this set-up is a gift. It’s still sizeable, so keep it for the experts only.
Friday the 10th offers a nice afternoon session. The swell drops to a more manageable 4ft from the south, period of 12 seconds, and it goes glassy. The energy is moderate (819), making it a much more comfortable option for a wider range of surfers.
The second week (from July 11th onward) gets wind-affected and inconsistent again. Saturday the 11th morning has a clean 5ft SSW swell with offshore wind, but the afternoons turn ugly with storms and strong cross-on winds. By Sunday the 12th, it’s blown out and messy.
Overall, your window is tight. Friday the 3rd and Thursday the 9th are the true standouts – big, powerful, and clean. If you’ve got the skill, get after it. If not, wait for the glassy afternoon on the 10th.
This is Rusty, signing off.
