The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's coming up for Milnerton.

Right off the bat, we've got a bit of a mixed bag to start. The first few days look a little rough and not worth paddling out for, but don't write it off just yet. The real story this week is the water temperature, which is sitting at 57°F. That's a solid 3°F cooler than usual for this time of year, so you'll definitely want that thick wetsuit. It's a bit colder than normal, so prepare for some extra sting.

Things start to get interesting on Thursday afternoon, the 23rd of July. The wind goes glassy, totally calm, and we get a clean 7ft swell from the southwest with an 11-second period. The combined energy is 1882, which is a moderate, punchy amount of power. This is when the surf finally cleans up, and it's a great window for any experienced surfer to get out there.

But the real standout, the one you've been waiting for, is Friday morning, the 24th of July. We're looking at a solid 12ft southwest groundswell with a 14-second period and glassy conditions. The combined energy is a massive 4362. That's a lot of water moving. Now, the forecast says it might be too big for the break, but if you're an expert, this is the moment. The wind is perfect, the swell is pumping, and the energy is undeniable. It's a big, powerful, clean swell, and it's going to be a proper session for those who can handle it.

Saturday the 25th also stays very good with a 7ft swell from the southwest and offshore winds. That's a clean, powerful day with a combined energy of 1843. Sunday the 26th is still good, with glassy conditions and a 6ft swell, but it's a touch smaller.

Then we hit a bit of a lull. From Monday the 27th through to the start of August, the energy drops and the wind isn't as kind, so it's not the best time to be in the water. However, there's a promising but less certain call for the first week of August. On Tuesday the 4th of August, we're looking at an 12ft north-west swell, and then Wednesday the 5th of August sees a huge 15ft swell from the west with a combined energy of 5720. That's a monster. But again, it could be too big for the break, so that one's for the true big-wave chargers only.

Stick with it, because once that big swell passes, Thursday the 6th of August afternoon looks like a beauty with a 7ft southwest swell, glassy wind, and a combined energy of 2259. That's a clean, powerful end to the run.

Stay stoked, and don't let the cold water put you off.

Rusty.
