The Lowdown

Right folks, let’s have a look at what’s cooking. We’re at Milnerton, and there’s a solid run of groundswell coming through, but you’ve gotta pick your moments. The water’s sitting about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.

The action kicks off Sunday morning, September 6th. A nice clean 7ft SW groundswell with a very long 18-second period rolls in – that’s proper energy (2865). The ESE offshore breeze will have things clean and lined up. But with that size and period, it’s a beast for experienced surfers only. The break is fairly exposed, so it’ll handle it, but it’s a big one. The standout of the whole run is Monday morning, September 7th. Glassy conditions, 7ft SW swell with a 14-second period, and the energy is still pumping (1504). That’s a window of pure, clean surf.

Tuesday morning, September 8th, things back off a touch – 3ft WSW swell, but it’s glassy again, so if you want a smaller, cleaner board, that’s your window.

Thursday morning, September 10th, another big pulse hits: 8ft WSW swell, 15-second period, and a gentle ESE offshore. That’s 3081 of energy – powerful, but only for the experienced crew.

The second week gets a bit messy. There’s still size, like 10ft on Sunday September 13th and 12ft on Tuesday September 15th, but the wind swings onshore and it gets lumpy. That 13ft on Tuesday afternoon with a 22 mph NW wind? That’s kite-surfing territory, not paddle surfing.

Thursday September 17th morning sees a clean-up: 10ft SW swell, 13-second period, and a SSE cross-off. That’s a big, clean wave for experts.

Friday September 18th morning is another golden moment: 8ft SSW swell, 12-second period, with a clean ESE offshore. That’s a solid, clean session.

The very end of the run, around Sunday September 20th, drops to 4ft and glassy – small and clean for a fun session.

The best on offer? Lock in Monday September 7th morning for the glass, the size, and the energy. Friday September 18th morning is a close second for that clean offshore push.

Rusty.
