The Lowdown
Imperial Version
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's get into the outlook for Robberg. This is a beach and reef setup that can be a bit of a tease—it's inconsistent, so don't expect it to be pumping every day. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing too wild there.
The next few days are a bit of a write-off. Tuesday through early Wednesday is looking marginal at best with small, weak swell around 3ft to 5ft and cross-shore winds. The energy is weak, so you're not missing much.
But hold onto your boards, because things look to flip big time. Thursday the 16th of July is the first real standout. The morning sees a solid 10ft SW groundswell (14 second period) rolling in, with moderate energy. The winds are light cross-on, so it's a bit bumpy, but the afternoon is where it's at. The wind drops to glassy, clean conditions, and the swell drops to a still-mighty 8ft from the SW (13 second period). This is excellent for experienced surfers, but at 8ft, it's expert territory only. Keep in mind, that long period SW groundswell at a beach and reef can be a bit of a beast, but it's your best bet for the week.
Friday the 17th of July keeps the fire burning with a 8ft SW groundswell (12 second period) and glassy conditions in the morning. It's got good energy, but the same caveat applies—it's big and powerful. The afternoon gets a bit of a cross-on wind, so hit it early.
Saturday the 18th of July offers a slightly smaller 6ft SW groundswell (12 second period) with glassy conditions in the morning. The energy is still solid, and the smaller size might make it a bit more manageable for strong intermediates. It's a good, clean option.
The rest of the first week and into the second week is a rollercoaster. Sunday the 19th gets blown out by strong cross-shore winds, and Monday the 20th has a big 10ft SSW swell but with light cross-shore winds in the morning. The afternoon of the 20th, however, is glassy with that same 10ft swell, making it another excellent pick for the experts.
A big one to circle is Tuesday the 22nd of July. The afternoon sees a 10ft SW groundswell with a very long 14-second period and glassy conditions. The energy is very strong, and this is your best overall quality window. It's powerful, but clean.
The 23rd and 24th of July are messy with strong winds again, but the 24th afternoon cleans up to glassy with a smaller 4ft SW groundswell. The 25th of July morning has a smaller 5ft ESE swell with glassy conditions and decent energy, a good option for a change of pace.
The final week looks promising. The 27th of July has 8ft SW groundswell with glassy conditions all day—excellent for experts. The 28th of July morning is clean with an 8ft SW groundswell and cross-offshore winds, another strong contender. The 29th of July is a bit of a fade.
Overall, the standout windows are the afternoons of the 16th, the 20th, and especially the 22nd of July. Get on it if you're a charger.
Rusty.
