Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Strandfontein.

The next week and a half is a bit of a mixed bag, but don’t sleep on the first morning. Thursday the 30th of July is looking like the standout. We’ve got a solid 5-foot SW groundswell, with a 13-second period pushing some decent energy (700). The wind is a clean offshore from the ENE at 25 km/h, keeping the surface clean. It’s a touch inconsistent, but the water is a bit colder than usual at 56°, not a huge deal. The morning is the call here.

Friday morning the 31st gets blown out by a strong 40 km/h wind, so skip that. Friday afternoon sees the wind ease to a moderate offshore from the east at 25 km/h, but the swell has dropped to 4 feet on a 12-second period (433). It’s surfable, but nothing special.

The weekend is pretty average. Saturday morning (1st August) has a 4-foot SW swell at 14 seconds (514), but the wind is cross-off, and the vibe is just marginal. Saturday afternoon and Sunday are light cross-onshore, not worth getting excited about.

Then Monday the 3rd of August morning is a real gem. Glassy conditions, total calm, wind is 0 km/h. There’s a 4-foot SW groundswell with a 13-second period and strong energy (788). It’s clean, it’s punchy, and it’s the second best session of the whole forecast. Snag that morning window.

Things get big from the 5th of August onwards. Wednesday the 5th sees a 7-foot SW swell on the morning, jumping to 10 feet on the afternoon. The period is long (15-16 seconds), energy is massive (2300-3695), but it’s simply too big and powerful for a beach break like this unless you’re an expert. The same goes for the 6th, 7th, and 8th – all solid 7-foot to 10-foot SW groundswells, with clean offshore winds on the 7th morning, but the size and energy (up to 4021) make it a serious, experts-only zone. For a regular surfer, it’s a pass.

The 9th of August Sunday is just ugly: 13-foot SSW swell and choppy onshore winds. No good. The 10th Monday is still massive (10 feet) and lumpy. Not for paddle surfing.

The 11th of August Tuesday morning sees the swell drop to 7 feet with a shorter 9-second period (800) and a moderate offshore from the ENE. It’s still big, but the energy is dropping, and it’s cleaner. A possible session for the brave.

The 14th of August Friday is the final bright spot. The morning has a 4-foot WSW swell, 11-second period (663), with a clean cross-off breeze. The afternoon is the real pearl: a 3-foot WSW swell with an extra-long 18-second period and high energy (1004). The wind is a clean offshore from the ESE at 20 km/h. This is classic long-period groundswell, clean and lined up. It’s not huge, but the quality is excellent.

So, overall: Thursday 30th July morning and Monday 3rd August morning are the true standouts. The big swell window (5th to 10th) is for experts only. The 14th of August afternoon is a beautiful, clean, long-period session for those who appreciate quality over size.
