Alright, let's talk in feet and miles per hour. This is Rusty, and I’m looking at Victoria Bay. It’s a reef-and-point set-up, exposed to the south, and the next couple of weeks look pretty promising. Water temp is about 62°F, which is normal for this time of year.
The pattern starts hot. Sunday morning, July 5th, is glassy, dead calm, with a 5ft swell from the ESE, period of 12 seconds, and the combined energy is 842 (moderate). That’s a beautiful, clean start. Sunday afternoon stays glassy with 4ft swell. Monday, July 6th, shifts to a SW swell at 5ft, morning is still glassy, but the afternoon gets a cross-shore breeze, so it turns marginal.
Tuesday, July 7th, is a real standout. The morning is glassy with a 6ft swell from the SW, 12-second period, energy at 1030 (moderate to strong). The report says excellent conditions for experienced surfers, and I agree. Tuesday afternoon stays glassy with 6ft swell. This is the window to be out.
Wednesday, July 8th, has a 6ft swell with energy hitting 1578, but a cross-shore wind messes with the face. Thursday, July 9th, is another absolute beauty: 8ft of SSW swell, 14-second period, energy at 2909, and glassy conditions. This is expert-only, powerful groundswell, perfect for the point.
Friday, July 10th, gets big with 10ft swell, but the wind turns onshore and it gets choppy. Saturday, July 11th, morning is glassy again with 6ft swell, excellent for experienced surfers. Sunday, July 12th, has 4ft swell with a clean offshore NNW breeze in the morning, but afternoon is blown out. From Monday, July 13th to Wednesday, July 15th, it’s small – 3ft to 3ft – with weak energy and messy wind.
Then, Friday, July 17th, is a monster. The morning is glassy with an 8ft WSW swell. But the afternoon? 21ft of SW swell, 13-second period, and energy of 13,851. That is terrifyingly big, and the report says it’s too big for this break. Experts only, and even then, be very careful.
Saturday, July 18th, still has 12ft swell but fresh onshore wind by afternoon. Sunday, July 19th, has 7ft swell but cross-shore winds. The run finishes clean on Monday, July 20th, with a morning glass-off and 5ft SSW swell.
The best bets are Tuesday, July 7th (6ft, glassy) and Thursday, July 9th (8ft, glassy, expert power). And if you’re a pro, keep an eye on Friday, July 17th, but respect the 21ft.
Rusty.
