The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cooking at Victoria Bay for the next couple of weeks.
It’s a real roller-coaster 16 days ahead. Vic Bay is a classic reef and point, and it's built for this SW swell direction we've got coming. The problem is the wind is going to be a fickle friend.
We start with a hot run of SW groundswell. Tuesday the 18th and Wednesday the 19th are looking a bit bumpy with cross-onshore winds. Thursday the 20th morning is a beast, with a 6ft swell from the SSW pumping with 4131 units of energy (moderate to strong energy), but it’s that cross-on wind again keeping it from being perfect. The water temp is sitting about average for the season.
Friday the 21st afternoon is a real jewel. The swell levels out to a clean 6ft from the SSW, and the wind drops to glassy out of the ENE. That is your ticket to a perfect, clean session. The energy is still solid at 841.
Saturday the 22nd is a complete mess. The wind is cranking from the SW at 15 mph, and it’s going to trash the 10ft swell. That’s a kite surfer’s day, not a paddle surfer’s.
We get another crack at it on Sunday the 23rd afternoon. There’s an 8ft swell from the SSW, and the wind goes glassy again from the SSE. This is another excellent window, but the size is getting up there for the experts only.
The real standout for the second week lands on Friday the 29th of August. The morning features a 7.5ft swell from the SW with a super long period of 15 seconds. It will be glassy. That's a proper groundswell with heaps of energy (2272), and it will wrap around the point beautifully, though the sets might be a little spaced out. Then Monday the 1st of September gives us a final clean-up, with a NNW offshore breeze grooming a 7ft SW swell.
The Best on Offer: For the cleanest, most user-friendly waves, get in the water on the afternoon of Friday the 21st of August. For the big, powerful, clean groundswell that only the pros will truly enjoy, the morning of Saturday the 30th of August is your session. Crowds are always a possibility here, but on those glassy days, it’s worth every bit of the company.
