Right on, let’s get into it for Pringle Bay.
We’ve got a wild ride ahead over the next sixteen days, with some proper firing moments and a few flat spells to dodge. The water temp is sitting at 59°, which is pretty bang on average for this time of year, so no weird surprises when you get in.
Kicking things off on Monday the 6th of July, the morning is looking clean as a whistle. Glassy conditions with barely a breath of wind from the NE. Swell is a solid 7ft from the WSW with a period of 11 seconds. The combined energy is pumping at 1204 – that’s strong, you’ll feel the weight. This is a standout morning for the beginner-friendly Pringle Bay (beach and point), but it’s not too big for a confident learner. The water’s smooth as glass, and the crowds are only around sometimes, so you’ll have your pick of peaks. The swell direction is SW for the guidance optimum, and the actual swell is from WSW – close enough to work nicely on the point.
That afternoon, the swell drops a touch to 5ft from the W, still glassy with light WSW wind. Energy jumps to 1322. Still bloody good.
Tuesday the 7th gets a bit messy. Morning has onshore NW wind at 6 mph and a 7ft SW swell, but conditions are marginal. Not worth paddling out. The afternoon sees a bigger 8ft SW swell with a 13-second period, but the wind swings to a light southwesterly cross-shore. The energy is huge – 1922 – but the quality drops right off.
Wednesday the 8th is all about the afternoon. That’s when it really shines. Morning is again onshore and junky, but from 2pm, the wind turns offshore from the SSE at 9 mph. Swell is 7ft from the SW, period 13 seconds, and the combined energy hits 2667. This is excellent for experienced surfers. The point will be holding the long-period groundswell well, giving you long, wrapping lines. This is the second standout – clean, powerful, and for the crew that knows what they’re doing.
Thursday the 9th has size. Morning sees 10ft from the SW with 14-second period, but the ESE wind is 16 mph – a moderate offshore, so it’s clean but windy. Energy is 3017. That’s big, strong energy. This is for experts only; beginners, stay on the sand. The afternoon stays similar but with a fresh 19 mph offshore from the SE.
Friday the 10th drops off a bit in quality. Swell around 8ft from the SSW, but the wind is a stiff 22 mph cross-offshore from the ESE. Energy is still high at 2265, but the wind is pushing hard. It’s surfable but not the best.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th see the swell fading. Saturday is still clean with offshore winds, but waves drop to 6ft, then Sunday to 5ft. Energy drops to 1304 then 560. Nothing special.
Monday the 13th is marginal, with onshore wind and small 4ft swell. Then we hit a lull.
From Tuesday the 14th of July through to Friday the 17th, it’s mostly flat or poor. Waves are down to 2ft and 3ft, with onshore winds and no quality. That’s a gap of about four days where you’re better off fixing your board or going for a paddle.
Saturday the 18th sees a glimmer in the afternoon. Wind turns offshore from the ESE at 12 mph, and a 10ft swell from the west rolls in with a short period of only 8 seconds. Energy is 1147. The short period means it’ll be a bit lumpy and close out at the beach, but the point might link up a few.
Now, the absolute standout of the whole forecast is Sunday the 19th of July. Glassy conditions, no wind, and a solid 12ft swell from the west with an 11-second period. Energy is a massive 2792. This is big, clean, and for experienced surfers only. The point will be handling that west swell beautifully, giving you long, heavy walls. This is the one to mark on the calendar.
Monday the 20th keeps the goodness rolling with glassy conditions in the morning, calm winds, and a 8ft WSW swell. Then Tuesday the 21st delivers another excellent session: 10ft from the SW, 12-second period, gentle offshore SE wind at 9 mph, and energy of 2865. Again, this is for the experienced crew, with clean, powerful lines.
So, bottom line: the first week has two clear standouts – Monday the 6th morning for the beginners, and Wednesday the 8th afternoon for the advanced. Then after a flat spell mid-month, the second week fires up with Sunday the 19th as the absolute best day of the whole run. Go get it.
