The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, lookin' at the surf prospects for Pringle Bay over the next couple of weeks. Let's get straight into it.
The forecast kicks off with a bit of a slow start. Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd are pretty average. We've got some swell around, but it's either questionable conditions or just poor surf. The real action starts to build from Sunday.
Sunday the 23rd morning is where it begins to get interesting. That morning session is lookin' clean with a light offshore breeze from the SE at 12 mph and swell at 8 ft from the WSW. The energy's building with a combined energy of 1879. That's a real solid push of groundswell with a 13-second period, meaning proper lines and long waits between sets. For the more experienced crew, Pringle Bay can handle that size, but if you're a beginner, 8 ft is pushin' it.
Then Tuesday the 25th morning throws down a serious contender. We're talkin' 8 ft of SW groundswell with a 14-second period and a clean, fresh offshore wind from the ESE at 19 mph. The energy's pumpin' at 2414, which is some serious juice. This is a proper session for the experienced surfer; that size and power is not for the faint-hearted. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothin' wild to report there.
A bit of a lull mid-week, but then things get rowdy again. Saturday the 29th afternoon is an absolute standout. Clean conditions with a light cross-off breeze, and the swell jumps to 8 ft from the WSW with a 13-second period. The combined energy hits 2382. The report says it's excellent for experienced surfers, and I'm inclined to agree. Bring your big-wave board and your best paddle fitness.
Now, for the real monster on the horizon. This is the one to circle on your calendar for the second week. Thursday the 3rd September and Friday the 4th September see some next-level swell. The morning of the 3rd has 18 ft from the WSW at a very long 15-second period, and it's clean. The energy is off the charts at 11845. On Friday the 4th afternoon, it's a similar story but slightly smaller at 16 ft from the SSW, still a clean 14-second period with no wind to speak of, and an energy of 8611. This is for the elite crew only. At this size, Pringle Bay is for experts. The setup is more for tow-in or a very, very brave paddle. That offshore wind and that length of period will make for some scary, perfect walls on the point.
To sum it up: the first week has some fun, clean windows for experienced surfers, especially Sunday morning and Tuesday morning, with the 29th afternoon being the highlight before the long-range stuff hits. The absolute standout session to keep an eye on, though, is the arrival of that massive swell on the 3rd and 4th. It's still a week or so out, so the details could shift, but if it comes together, it'll be legendary.
Stay sharp, catch some waves, and don't get caught inside.
