Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Alright, let’s get into it. This week’s surf outlook for Bettys Bay is a bit of a slow starter, but hang tight because the second week of July is looking seriously exciting.

We kick off on Friday the 3rd of July with a fresh offshore wind and 3.6ft of SW swell, period around 13 seconds. It’s clean but the energy is only moderate (445). The conditions are there, but the swell lacks that push. Saturday the 4th picks up with a glassy morning, but the swell drops to 2.6ft from the SE. The afternoon looks better though – 2.3ft of SW groundswell with a very long 15 second period, pushing moderate energy (694). The clean offshore wind makes it worth a paddle, but it’s small.

Sunday the 5th brings a bit more size, 4.9ft from the west, but the period drops to 8 seconds – that’s a short period windswell, so it’ll be a bit bumpy and less organized. The morning is still decent with offshore winds, but the afternoon gets a cross-off wind that takes the shine off.

Now, Monday the 6th of July is interesting. The morning is a bit messy with a light cross-on breeze and 7.5ft of WSW swell, moderate to strong energy (1423). But the afternoon turns glassy – absolute calm winds, 6.6ft of clean WSW swell at 11 seconds. That’s a solid session, with strong energy (1274). Tuesday the 7th keeps the glassy conditions, 5.9ft SW swell at 12 seconds, consistent and clean all day. Water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.

Then Wednesday the 8th of July – this is where it gets real. Morning sees 8.2ft of SW swell, period 13 seconds, with a cross-off breeze. The combined energy jumps to 3384, that’s strong. This is a proper swell for experienced surfers, but the afternoon turns ugly with an onshore wind and 8.2ft of 16 second groundswell – that long period on a beach setup can get straight and tricky.

From Thursday the 9th through Saturday the 11th of July, it’s pretty much a write-off. Strong easterly winds, cross-onshore, messy conditions, and lumpy seas. Swell stays between 5.6ft and 9.8ft, but the wind kills it. The energy is moderate to strong (1772 down to 1325), but it’s just not surfable for a good paddle.

Sunday the 12th of July brings hope again. Morning has a light cross-off breeze and 7.2ft of SSW swell with a very long 16 second period. Energy is strong (2512). This is for experienced surfers only – the long period groundswell will be lined up, but at beach breaks it can break too straight. Still, a standout session if you know your spot.

The following week starts quiet Monday the 13th, fresh offshore but only 3.9ft swell. Tuesday the 14th is a write-off with rain and messy winds. But then Wednesday the 15th – hold onto your board. Morning has 13.1ft of WSW swell, period 12 seconds, moderate energy (6174). Afternoon goes ballistic: 14.8ft of WSW swell at 13 seconds, combined energy of 8388 – that’s exceptional. Winds are light and cross-off, so it’s clean. This is big, expert-only territory.

Thursday the 16th of July continues the onslaught: 14.8ft to 13.1ft of SW groundswell, period 14 seconds, energy over 8000. Morning has a moderate offshore breeze, afternoon is light offshore. Glassy conditions on the 18th of July bring 5.9ft of clean SSW swell to wrap things up.

Standout pick: Without a doubt, Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th are the best on offer. Massive swell, long period groundswell, and clean winds. Bettys Bay will be pumping, but this is strictly for experts – over 8.2ft is only for those with serious skills. The crowd profile is “sometimes” so you might have company, but with that size, the lineup will be thinned out.

Short Range Forecast

Light rain (total 5mm), mostly falling on Thu night. Very mild (max 19°C on Sun afternoon, min 12°C on Thu night). Winds decreasing (strong winds from the NNW on Thu night, light winds from the NNW by Sat night).

Days 5-7 Weather Summary

Mostly dry. Very mild (max 18°C on Mon afternoon, min 15°C on Sun night). Wind will be generally light.
