Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s break down the outlook for Haardebai.
We’ve got a really solid run of clean, powerful waves coming up over the next couple of days before the wind and swell turn it into a mess. The real standout window is Tuesday through Wednesday morning, with pumping swell and that light offshore flow ironing everything out. The combined swell energy is cranked way up – we’re talking between 1411 and 3062 for the best sessions, which is strong to very strong. Water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing weird going on.
Tuesday 7th July: A beauty to start. Tuesday morning is clear with a light offshore breeze from the NNW at 6 mph, and the swell is 7 ft from the SW with a 12-second period. That’s a solid groundswell with proper energy (1411). The afternoon only gets better – 8 ft from the SW, period stretching to 13 seconds, energy up to 1849, and a light cross-off wind. Clean, lined-up, and punchy. Best of the week so far.
Wednesday 8th July: Wednesday morning is the absolute peak. 8 ft of SW swell at 13 seconds, offshore wind from the WNW at 6 mph, and combined energy of 2539. Surf is excellent and only for experienced surfers at this size. The curse hits Wednesday afternoon though – the wind swings onshore from the SSE at 16 mph, and the quality drops to zero despite the swell size dropping to 5 ft. Get your sessions in before lunch.
Thursday 9th July to Sunday 12th July: A long, sad stretch. The wind is a nightmare – onshore or cross-onshore from the ESE or SE, blowing 16 to 25 mph. Swell stays big (8 ft to 10 ft on Thursday and Friday morning) but the period is around 13 to 14 seconds, so lots of energy (between 945 and 3062) but all of it is blown out, lumpy, and unsurfable. By Sunday it drops to 3 ft to 4 ft, but still cross-onshore at 19 mph. This is a solid 5-day blank period. Haardebai is a sheltered reef, so that onshore flow really wrecks it.
Monday 13th July: A tiny relief. Swell is small – 2 ft to 3 ft – and the period is short (9–10 seconds), but the wind goes glassy in the morning and afternoon. It’s just ordinary, but at least it’s clean. Combined energy is weak, around 126 to 152.
Tuesday 14th July: More small stuff, 2 ft. Morning has a clean offshore breeze from the NW at 9 mph and a longer 13-second period, but it’s small (energy 238). Afternoon picks up a moderate offshore but the period drops to 9 seconds. Surfable, but nothing to race for.
Wednesday 15th July: Rain showers and strong cross-off wind from the W at 22–25 mph. Swell is small again, 2 ft to 3 ft, but the wind is howling. Poor conditions.
Thursday 16th July: A bit of a tease. Swell comes back up to 7 ft from the SW at 11 seconds, with light cross-on wind in the morning. Combined energy is 1061, moderate to strong. The wind is just on the wrong side though, and the surf is marginal. The afternoon gets worse – onshore at 12 mph.
Friday 17th July: Swell stays in the 5 ft range from the WSW, but the wind is cross-onshore or just poor. Morning is a write-off, afternoon is marginal but still not clean. Energy is moderate (894 to 1005).
Saturday 18th July: A surprise return to form. Saturday morning is glassy with 8 ft of SW swell at 12 seconds, and that combined energy is 1920 – strong stuff. The afternoon stays clean with a light cross-off breeze. This is the second standout of the forecast, and it’s just over a week away (on the 18th). Promising but less certain.
Sunday 19th July to Tuesday 21st July: Sunday is good but smaller – 6 ft dropping to 5 ft, offshore and cross-off winds, clean. Energy drops to 882 then 629. Monday is smaller again (3 ft to 4 ft) but offshore wind holds. Tuesday looks marginal again with strong offshore wind and a long 16-second period from the SW, but only 2 ft swell and energy of 586. Wednesday the 22nd is cross-shore and poor.
So the bottom line: Tuesday 7th July morning through Wednesday 8th July morning and Saturday 18th July are your true standouts. Get on it when the wind is light and offshore, because this spot goes completely flat and messy when the wind turns on it.
Rusty.
