Alright, talkin’ Boilers. It’s an advanced reef break, real consistent, and it likes swell from the west-northwest. The outlook? Pretty rough for the next two weeks.
We start Sunday, July 5th, with tiny, weak swell – about 2ft from the NNW, with a short 8-second period. The wind’s light cross-shore, but the whole thing is small and messy. Water temp’s 67°, pretty average for this time of year. Through Monday and Tuesday, it’s just knee-high stuff with periods dropping to 7 and even 5 seconds.
Wednesday the 8th doesn’t look good either: the morning is glassy but the swell is only 3ft with a 5-second period. The afternoon pushes a bit more energy, around 5ft, but the wind jumps to a fresh 30 km/h cross-onshore, making it choppy and lumpy.
Thursday the 9th morning is actually glassy with a 3ft swell – it’s surfable but nothing special. That’s probably the best moment of the first week, and that’s not saying much. The combined wave energy is weak, around 79.
The rest of the week just repeats: a steady stream of NNW swell between 4ft and 6ft, but the wind is always cross or cross-onshore, often blowing 30 km/h or stronger. On Saturday the 11th afternoon the swell gets to 6ft and the combined energy hits 276 (moderate), but it’s still a cross-shore mess with short period.
The period around Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th sees the swell hit 7ft to 7ft with combined energy surging into the 300s and 400s – that’s moderate to strong energy. But it’s all ruined by fresh cross-shore and cross-onshore winds. Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th show a drop back to 4ft to 5ft with slightly better mornings, but still cross-shore winds, giving only marginal surf.
Honestly, for this whole 16-day stretch, Boilers hardly ever gets a clean window. The wind is almost always the problem. There’s not a single day with proper offshore or glassy conditions paired with decent groundswell. If you’re an advanced surfer, you might get something rideable on the cleanest mornings (like the 9th or 12th of July), but there’s no standout day. It’s a tough stretch.
Hang in there, crew. It won’t be like this forever.
