The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s have a squiz at what’s coming down the line for Boilers.
Truth be told, the next week and a half is a bit of a write-off for proper surfing. There’s swell around, but the wind is just not playing ball – nearly every day it’s a messy cross-shore, and that’s the killer. You’ll see some solid bits of energy coming through, but it’s going to be lumpy and chopped. The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Tuesday the 21st of July, so there’s a long gap of nothing on offer before that.
For the morning of Tuesday the 21st, the wind drops right out. Glassy conditions, dead calm, and while the swell isn’t huge at 6ft out of the NNW, it’s got a moderate energy reading (395) and a 8-second period. The wind is from the WSW at 0 mph, so it’s flat calm. That’s about as clean as it gets for Boilers. This is the standout. For a reef break like this, that NNW swell is coming from the optimum direction too. It’s an advanced wave, very consistent, so it’ll be a proper session for those who know what they’re doing. Just a heads up, crowds are sometimes a thing, so you might not have it all to yourself. Water temp is sitting at 69°, which is pretty normal for this time of year – nothing weird going on.
Wednesday the 22nd morning also looks promising. Another glassy window with a light W wind at 3 mph. The swell is a touch smaller at 5ft, still NNW, moderate energy (306), and the same 8-second period. It won’t be as punchy as Tuesday, but it’ll still be clean and rideable.
Beyond that, the wind comes back onshore and messy, with some solid but blown-out swell. In the last few days of July into the 30th, the energy gets strong (up to 1105 on the 30th afternoon) and the swell pushes to 8ft. But with a cross-onshore wind and choppy conditions, that’s expert-only territory, and honestly, it’s not going to look pretty. A beach setup might be alright for kites, but at Boilers it’s just a messy affair.
So, keep your eyes on the morning of Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd of July. Those are your windows. Everything else is a pass.
Rusty.
