The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Boilers is the only game in town for the next 16 days, but it’s a mixed bag. The overall pattern is messy: a lot of cross-shore wind and lumpy chop, with only a few brief windows of clean conditions. The water temp is sitting at 69°, which is about normal for this time of year.
The first real standout is Monday morning, the 20th of July. We’ve got a 7ft swell from the NNW with a period of 7 seconds, and the wind is a light cross-off from the NNE, making for clean waves. The combined swell energy is moderate at 539. It’s a reef break for advanced surfers only, and it can get crowded sometimes, but the conditions are set to be very good. This is the best on offer in the first week.
The next highlight is Friday morning, the 24th of July, when it goes glassy. You’ve got a 8ft swell from the NNW with an 8-second period, and the wind is from the SW at a glassy 5 km/h. The wave energy is strong at 706. This will be clean, but the swell is getting up there, over 8ft, so it’s strictly for experts.
The rest of the period is mostly cross-shore breeze and poor to marginal surf. The afternoons are consistently blown out by fresh NNW winds. The second week sees a few mornings with lighter winds, like on the 30th of July, where it goes glassy again with a 7ft swell, but the 7-second period is pretty short. The 31st of July morning has a 8ft swell with a 3 rating, but it’s cross-shore wind. It’s a long stretch of marginal conditions, so don’t get your hopes up too high for consistent waves.
Rusty.
