Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anchor Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for our local stretch. Honestly, it’s gonna be a bit of a waiting game, but there are a few windows where it could get interesting if you're patient.
Right now, the situation looks pretty quiet. There’s no real surf to get excited about for the first few days. The swell energy is weak, and conditions are all over the place. We’re looking at a long gap with no real recommendations until we get towards the back half of the month.
The first real glimmer of hope might come on Thursday morning, July 16th. The water here at Anchor Point (La-Pointedes-Ancres) is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting around 72°, which is a nice bonus. That morning we’ll see some glassy conditions with a tiny 3ft swell from the northwest. It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary – certainly not worth rushing out for unless you’re desperate for a slide.
The next chance is Saturday morning, July 18th. Again, glassy conditions, with the same 3ft NW swell. The combined energy is a moderate 119, so there’s a little more juice in the water, but it’s still just surfable and very ordinary. It’s a point break that needs a decent push to really fire, so this is small, clean, but not epic.
If you’re looking for the best of what’s on offer, you’ve got to circle Thursday morning, July 24th. That’s over two weeks away, so take it with a grain of salt, but the charts are showing a more promising setup. We’re looking at a 4ft NW swell with a period of 9 seconds – that’s a nice little groundswell. The combined energy jumps to a strong 189, which is the highest in the whole outlook. More importantly, it’s forecast to be glassy. For a point break like Anchor Point, that’s a recipe for clean, lined-up waves. It’s not huge, so it’s friendly for intermediate surfers, but with that energy and glass, it’s the standout. Just keep in mind, it’s a long-range call so don’t book the week off just yet.
Saturday morning, July 25th is similar – glassy with a 3ft NW swell – but the energy drops right back off to 88. It’s a decent morning surf, but nothing compared to the day before.
Overall, the first two weeks are mostly a write-off with small, messy, or just very ordinary conditions. The crowd profile at Anchor Point says it’s “often” busy, so if you do hit that Thursday morning on the 24th, expect some company. Right now, that’s the only true standout on the horizon.
Stay patient, keep an eye on the sky.
Rusty.
