The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for our region over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a slow burn, so patience is the name of the game.
Right now and for most of the next week, we're looking at a real flat spell. From Thursday the 20th right through to the morning of Monday the 24th, it’s pretty much a write-off. The swell is tiny or non-existent, and the energy is weak, so don't bother paddling out. There's a solid gap of a few days with nothing on offer.
Things start to whisper to life on Monday the 24th. We’ve got a small pulse of NNW groundswell pushing in at La Izquierda. The morning will see clean, glassy conditions with no wind, and waves around 2 ft. The combined energy is moderate, coming in at (114). It’s not going to blow your mind, but if you’re desperate for a slide on a longboard, it’s surfable. The water temp is sitting at 76°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.
The real standout, and the only one worth circling on the calendar, is Saturday the 29th. This is where it gets interesting. La Izquierda wakes up with a solid NE swell, pushing in at 5 ft to 5 ft. The combined energy jumps to (369-380), which is strong and will have some push behind it. The wind is looking fantastic – light offshore in the morning and going glassy by the afternoon. This is the pick of the forecast. For a reef break like this, that NE swell direction is right in the sweet spot, and the conditions will be clean as a whistle. It’s an advanced wave, and with consistent sets, the more experienced surfers are going to have a field day. Keep in mind that crowds are often an issue here, so get out there early.
After that high point, Sunday the 30th still has some solid NE swell around 4 ft to 5 ft, but the wind swings cross-offshore. It’s still good, but not as perfect as Saturday. Into the second week, the surf drops back down. Monday the 1st of September and Thursday the 3rd of September have some small, surfable pulses of NE swell (2 ft to 5 ft), but nothing that will match that Saturday session. The energy is moderate, and conditions are clean but not special. It’s a waiting game after the 29th.
So, to sum it up: you’ve got a long flat spell, then a little bump on Monday the 24th, but the one to save your energy for is Saturday the 29th at La Izquierda. That’s your window.
Rusty.
