The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, but in feet and miles for those who think in old-school numbers.
Look, the next couple of weeks at La Izquierda are mostly a snooze-fest. There’s a long, flat spell with hardly a ripple to get excited about, and then one clear shot of action right at the end of August. Let’s break it down.
From Tuesday the 18th through to about Saturday the 29th of August, it’s depressingly small. Swell stays under 2 feet, mostly from the NW or NNW. Periods are short, 6 to 9 seconds, so no real grunt. The energy numbers are tiny, often in the single digits or twenties (like 24, 22, 31), which is weak, weak, weak. You will see lots of clean, glassy mornings and light offshore breezes, especially on the 19th, 20th, and 22nd, but with almost no swell, it’s just a flat lake. The only semi-surfable moment in that stretch is Sunday morning the 23rd – a meager 2 feet from the NE with a 6-second period and energy of 58. It’s surfable, but so ordinary it’s barely worth a paddle.
Finally, on the afternoon of Thursday the 27th of August, a little pulse shows up: 3 feet from the NE, 7-second period, energy hits 94. Still ordinary, but it’s a sign of life.
That brings us to Friday the 28th of August, which is your one true standout. The morning session shows a 4 foot NE swell with an 8-second period and combined energy of 142 (moderate energy). The wind is offshore from the East at 6 mph, so those walls will be clean. This is a classic left-hand reef, and that NE direction is exactly what La Izquierda wants. It’s not a big day, so advanced surfers will have fun, but remember this spot can get crowded and it’s a reef break – respect it. The afternoon holds that same 4 foot NE swell, and the offshore breeze strengthens to 12 mph from the ESE, keeping the face clean. This is your window. After that, it drops back to tiny, flat conditions through the start of September.
It’s been a long, quiet run, but Friday the 28th of August delivers a clean, fun day on a proper wave. That’s your chance.
Rusty.
