Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s talk surf for this stretch of coastline.
Right now it’s pretty flat, but things pick up Sunday morning. July 5th kicks off with a clean session – light 6 mph cross-offshore from the west. Swell is 4 ft out of the ESE at 12 seconds – that’s real groundswell. Wave energy is moderate (694), and the water temp feels normal for this time of year. Good way to start.
Sunday afternoon the wind goes onshore, so stick to the morning.
We get a couple rough days. Monday has cross-on wind and bump. Tuesday morning July 7th is another good one: 6 ft from the SW, 12 seconds, light 6 mph cross-off from the west. Energy bumps up (921), and it’s clean. That Tuesday morning is a standout for the first week.
Wednesday, July 8th, brings more size – 7 ft from the SW at 13 seconds – but the morning has a moderate 16 mph cross-off, keeping it clean. Energy is strong (1746). The afternoon gets messy with onshore wind.
Thursday July 9th is not for paddle surfing. Swell hits 10 ft from the SSW at 14 seconds with an onshore breeze. Too big for most and wind’s wrong. That one looks more like a kite session.
The rest of that week and into the next is ugly – strong east and southeast winds, rain, and lumpy conditions from Friday July 10th through Tuesday July 14th. A long run of poor surf.
Tuesday morning July 14th shows a clean 4 ft ESE swell, 9 seconds, with a 9 mph westerly cross-off. Energy low (453), but it’s clean. A recovery, but nothing special.
Another rough patch Wednesday and Thursday with onshore chop. Thursday morning July 16th gets a strong offshore from the NNW at 25 mph, but the swell is only 3 ft at 13 seconds – hard to paddle into and mostly closed out.
The real standouts are in the second week.
Friday July 17th late morning and afternoon: an 8 ft to 10 ft SW swell builds in. Big. Afternoon hits 10 ft from the SW at 13 seconds – experts only. Wind is a strong 19 mph cross-off from the WSW, clean but a battle to paddle into. Energy is very strong (2959).
Then the absolute gem: Sunday morning July 19th. Light offshore from the northwest at 3 mph. Swell is 4 ft from the SW at a very long 15 seconds. That’s prime groundswell, glassed off. Wave energy is moderate at 1160, but quality will be excellent. That’s the best paddle session of the outlook.
Monday morning July 20th cleans up again with a 4 ft WSW 13-second groundswell and a light cross-off from the NNE. Clean and surfable.
To sum it up: a couple good mornings in the first week – July 5th and July 7th – then a long dry spell. The real highlight is Sunday July 19th with that glassy, long-period groundswell. Circle that one. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
