Table - best surf conditions forecast for Keurbooms over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at Keurbooms for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a solid block of swell coming, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag for conditions.
The water temp here is sitting at 63°, which is about 1° cooler than average for this time of year. Nothing too wild, just a touch on the nippy side.
Right off the bat, this Friday (10 July) we’ve got a serious pulse of swell – 10ft from the SSW with a 13-second period. The energy is pumping at 3550, but unfortunately, the forecast is saying it’s just too big for this break. The wind is glassy, which is a tease, but it’s a no-go for paddling. Saturday looks pretty average with cross-onshore winds, so I’d give it a miss.
Sunday (12 July) is still a bit messy, but the swell is dropping. The real window opens up Monday morning, 13 July. The swell drops to a clean 4ft from the SSW, still with a decent 10-second period, and the wind goes glassy. The energy is a moderate 501. This is when the wave quality turns on. We get a run of nice, clean conditions through Tuesday and Wednesday morning with waist-to-chest high sets, glassy winds, and the swell direction holding from the ESE and E. This is the pick of the first week. The best session is Monday morning.
Now, the standout for the whole period is Thursday, 16 July. We get another big SSW groundswell hitting 10ft with a 14-second period, and the energy is massive at 2819. The morning might be too big for most, but the afternoon session sees the swell ease to 8ft, still with a 13-second period, and the wind is clean from the WSW. The forecast specifically calls it excellent for experienced surfers. This is a big-wave day for the crew who can handle it. The following Friday (17 July) stays solid with 8ft sets and clean cross-offshore winds, another good window for the skilled surfers.
We get a bit of a lull around Saturday 18 July with onshore winds, but then Sunday 19 July cleans right back up with 4ft and glassy conditions. That’s a good morning session.
Looking further ahead into the second week, there’s a huge swell predicted for Thursday 23 July, with 15ft from the SSW. That’s a monster. The energy is 6484. It’s going to be way too big for Keurbooms, but the following Friday (24 July) afternoon, the swell drops to 8ft and the wind goes cross-offshore. That’s another one for the experienced surfers, but it’s a long way out, so keep an eye on it.
Overall, the best waves are Monday 13 July morning for the clean, manageable stuff, and Thursday 16 July afternoon for the big, powerful groundswell if you’ve got the skills.
Rusty.
