Table - best surf conditions forecast for Keurbooms over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pipe for Keurbooms.
We’re staring down the barrel of a big, powerful swell train that’s going to pound this exposed point for the next week and a half. The opening act is a solid pulse of south-southwest swell that’s packing serious energy – we’re talking near 3700 (combined energy) of raw power. That’s a lot of water moving, and it’s going to be a sizey 10ft for Thursday the 9th. The wind is light and cross-off in the morning, which is good, but this is a lot of wave for anyone who isn’t well-experienced. The water is sitting at 62°, which is about normal for this time of year.
Thursday afternoon the wind swings to a cross-shore, and by Friday morning, the 10th, we get some glassy, clean conditions. But again, that 10ft of SSW groundswell is still a beast. It’s a long-period groundswell too, 13 to 14 seconds, which means it’ll have plenty of punch. If you’re an expert and you can handle the size, the early morning glass on Friday will be a special window.
By Saturday morning, the 11th, the swell eases slightly to 8ft, but the period is still a meaty 12 seconds. The wind goes glassy out of the southeast, and the forecast says excellent conditions for experienced surfers. This is a standout window. The morning will be glorious, clean, and powerful. But be aware, this spot can get crowded sometimes, and the swell is still big enough that it’s not for the faint-hearted.
The wave energy drops right off after Saturday afternoon. Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th see the swell tumble down to 4ft and 3ft, with shorter periods and cross-onshore winds. It’s small, choppy, and not worth stressing over. There’s a gap of a few days there with nothing to write home about.
We get a bit of a reprieve on Tuesday the 14th with a tiny 4ft of ESE swell, but it’s weak and short-period. The conditions are glassy though, so if you’re desperate for a couple of little waist-high rollers, it’s there.
The real headline event, and the true standout, is coming up on Thursday the 16th. A new, long-period SW groundswell arrives, pushing 8ft with a 14-second period. The wind is forecast to be glassy all day. This is prime time for experienced surfers. The energy is strong (over 2000), and the setup is clean. Mark it.
There’s a bit of a messy period after that with some rain and cross-shore winds, but then another big pulse arrives on Monday the 20th. We’re looking at a 10ft SW groundswell with zero wind – completely glassy. That’s a massive, clean swell, but it’s going to be very big. This is for experts only.
The biggest single pulse of the entire forecast is on Tuesday the 21st. A 12ft SSW groundswell with a period that stretches to 16 seconds. The combined energy is a massive 6814. The wind is glassy. This is a huge, powerful, clean swell, but it will be too big for most. It will be breaking with serious authority.
The energy holds through the 22nd and 23rd with 8ft to 6ft SW groundswell, and conditions remain good. The 23rd afternoon looks particularly sweet with a gentle offshore wind from the northwest cleaning up the 8ft swell.
The very end of the window, Friday the 24th, is still looking solid with a 8ft SW groundswell and glassy conditions.
So, the two best bets? Saturday morning, July 11th for a slightly more manageable 8ft glassy swell, and Thursday morning, July 16th for the first day of that next big clean pulse. If you’re a hardcore charger, keep an eye on Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, but that’s proper big-wave territory.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
