Table - best surf conditions forecast for Keurbooms over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk in feet and miles per hour.
We’ve got a solid run of swell coming through at Keurbooms. This spot is exposed, and with a strong SSW groundswell building, there’s plenty to get excited about, but the size is going to be the big talking point over the next week. Water temp is sitting at 62°F, which is about average for this time of year.
Let’s kick off with Wednesday the 8th. It’s a bit of a teaser – 7ft of SW swell at 12 seconds, cross-off wind from the W at 9 mph, but the wave comment flags it as marginal. The combined energy is already pumping at 1689 (moderate-strong), but the set-up isn’t quite dialled yet.
Thursday the 9th is where things punch you in the face. Overnight the swell jumps to 10ft from the SSW, with a period of 14 seconds and energy at 3703 (strong). Both morning and afternoon have clean, cross-off winds at 6 mph, but here’s the thing – at 10ft, this is expert-only territory. Too big for beginners, and for most intermediates it’s going to be a handful. The guidance says the swell is predicted to be too big for this break, and I agree.
Friday the 10th keeps that same 10ft SSW swell, with energy still up around 3305. The morning has a NW offshore wind, light, and the afternoon goes glassy from the SE – that’s about as clean as it gets. But again, that size is a beast. Only for the brave.
Saturday the 11th sees a slight drop to 8ft, but the wind goes cross-on from the east at 9 mph, and the conditions turn marginal. Choppy by afternoon.
Sunday the 12th is where things get interesting for the everyday surfer. The swell drops to 5ft SSW, period still a solid 11 seconds, and the morning is glassy with light easterly wind. Energy is down to 760 (moderate), but the wave comment says “expect very good surf conditions.” This could be the pick of the first week – clean, manageable, and fun. Afternoon turns cross-on, but the morning window is pure gold.
Monday the 13th flips direction to an ESE short-period swell (8 seconds), only 6ft in the morning but clean with a light cross-off. That short period means the waves will be a bit more crumbly. Afternoon gets stronger wind but stays clean. Tuesday the 14th is a step down, with the swell dropping to 5ft and energy fading to 430 (weak-moderate). Clean morning, but nothing special.
Wednesday the 15th is glassy both sessions, with a small 3-4ft swell from SE. Clean, but small. A good day for a longboard.
Thursday the 16th is a mixed bag. Morning is messy with rain and strong cross-off wind, but a tiny 3ft swell with a very long 16-second period – that long period will create clean lines but the size is tiny. The afternoon jumps to 8ft SW but with strong wind, so expect bumpy conditions.
Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are mostly cross-on and choppy, with waves in the 7-8ft range but poor quality.
Now, Sunday the 19th – here’s a hidden gem. The afternoon has 5ft SW swell at 11 seconds, with a light NW offshore wind at 6 mph. Very clean, energy at 806 (moderate), and the wave comment says “expect very good surf conditions.” This is a standout for the second week.
Monday the 20th brings a south-easterly short-period swell at 6ft, but the afternoon has a moderate offshore wind from the NW at 16 mph, keeping it clean. Energy around 752 (moderate). Worth a look.
Tuesday the 21st is the big one for experienced surfers. Morning shows 8ft SSW swell at 14 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell – with clean cross-off wind and energy at 2458 (strong). This is rated excellent for experienced surfers. Afternoon bumps to 10ft again, back to expert-only.
From Wednesday the 22nd through Thursday the 23rd, we’re looking at 12ft+ SSW swells with periods up to 15 seconds, energy readings over 5000 (very strong). These are massive, powerful waves. The wind is clean, glassy even on Thursday morning, but this is purely for big-wave specialists.
The standout sessions: Sunday the 12th morning for the best blend of size and glassy conditions for all levels, and Sunday the 19th afternoon for a clean, punchy swell with offshore wind. Tuesday the 21st morning is the expert’s pick.
