The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. The surf’s going to be here all week, but we’ve got to pick our moments. Keurbooms is the main event, and it’s handling the swell pretty well for the most part.
We kick things off on Tuesday the 18th with a solid pulse of southwest groundswell. The morning’s a bit messy with a cross-shore breeze, but the afternoon cleans right up to glass. The swell is a good 8ft with a 12-second period pushing in, and the energy is strong (1793). It’s a bit much for the groms, but for the experienced crew, this is where it’s at.
Wednesday the 19th holds that size, around 8ft, and the afternoon sees a cross-offshore wind that keeps it clean. Still a big, powerful wave, but it’s got some shape to it.
Now, Thursday the 20th is the standout. The swell jumps to a serious 13ft in the morning, with a strong 13-second period and a ton of energy (5087). This is too big for Keurbooms, plain and simple. It’s not going to be a friendly wave; it’ll be heavy and challenging. Later in the day it backs off to 12ft but it’s still pushing limits.
After that big pulse, Friday the 21st settles down to a much more manageable 8ft. The morning is glassy with light SSE air, and the afternoon is also glassy. This is a great day. The swell is still solid, but the conditions are as good as it gets. This is probably the pick of the week for the intermediate surfer.
Saturday the 22nd is a step back. The wind picks up in the afternoon, but we're still getting 8ft in the morning. Not terrible, but not as clean. The surf is still on the bigger side.
Sunday the 23rd is back to big again, with an 12ft morning. It’s too big again. The energy is up there (3192). This one is for the experts only.
We get a breather on Monday the 24th as the swell drops quickly to about 5ft, but the quality is just okay. We’re in a bit of a lull here.
Tuesday the 25th brings new energy with a longer period (14 seconds) but it’s a bit onshore, so it’s a bit of a miss.
There’s another gap with lower quality surf on the 27th. But then, Wednesday the 26th morning is a sneaky one. The wind is completely calm, the surf is 6ft with a nice 13-second period, and it’s glass. It’s not the biggest, but it’s clean and fun. That’s a good, underrated option.
The end of the month, around the 29th, isn’t a write-off either. Saturday morning the 29th sees another good pulse of 8ft southwest swell, and the wind is dead calm. Glassy perfection. That’s another standout. It’s a nice way to end the week.
We get one more nod to the bigger stuff on the 30th with a 10ft and more on the 31st, which brings 8ft with clean, cross-offshore winds again Monday morning. It's all happening.
So, in short: the biggest and best is on Thursday, but it's for experts. For clean, solid, and surfable, Friday the 21st and Saturday the 29th are your go-to days. Keep your eye on the tides, and you’ll find your wave.
