Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Looks like we’ve got a solid run of swell on the cards for Keurbooms, but you’ll need to pick your moments. The water temp is sitting where you’d expect for this time of year, nothing out of the ordinary.
The first real action kicks off Friday the 3rd of July. Friday morning we’ve got a 6ft SE groundswell rolling in with a long 11-second period, combined energy sitting at 1496 (moderate), and the wind is dead calm – glassy as. This is proper clean surf, but at this size it’s more for the experienced crew. Friday afternoon the wind shifts cross-shore and the swell bumps to 7ft though the energy drops a touch (1405), so conditions get a bit more average.
Saturday the 4th of July is your standout. Saturday morning it’s dead calm again, 7ft of SE swell with a longer 13-second period – that’s groundswell energy at 1559. The waves are going to have real push and shape, but at that size it’s still for the experienced. Crowds can pop up at Keurbooms sometimes, but with the offshore wind being calm and glassy, it’s worth the company. Afternoon gets a light cross-onshore breeze and the swell drops to 6ft, so the magic fades.
Sunday the 5th stays clean with glassy mornings and afternoons, smaller at 5ft dropping to 5ft, period easing to 12 seconds – energy around 834 down to 679. Good for a cruisy session if you want.
Monday the 6th brings a shift – the swell swings around to the SW, 7ft in the morning with a 12-second period, energy 1450, and it’s glassy again. Still excellent for experienced surfers. Afternoon the wind goes light cross-onshore and it drops to 7ft. Tuesday the 7th stays SW and glassy mornings at 7ft, then the afternoon goes glassy too at 6ft. Solid run of clean waves on the cards.
Wednesday the 8th of July is a big one – morning sees 8ft SW swell with a 14-second period, cross-off wind, energy hitting 2248. That’s strong, punchy, and clean – excellent for experienced surfers only. But Wednesday afternoon it jumps to 10ft with 13 seconds, energy 3069 – that’s too big for Keurbooms, expert only at best. From Thursday the 9th through the weekend, we’ve got 10ft plus SSW swell with onshore or cross-onshore winds – windy and messy. The energy is huge, up to 4007, but conditions are blown out. Not worth paddling out unless you’re after a battle.
By Wednesday the 15th of July, we’re looking at 12ft and 15ft SW swells with cross-off winds – clean but massive. Energy is 3253 then 4965. That’s way too big for this break. It keeps pumping through Thursday the 16th at 15ft and 13ft, energy 7469 then 6700 – that’s very strong wave energy, but it’s all for big-wave specialists only.
Friday the 17th of July still has 10ft SSW swell but cross-onshore winds – messy and big. Saturday the 18th of July finally calms down – morning sees 7ft SSW swell with a 12-second period, glassy conditions, energy 1314. That’s the best of the later run and back to excellent for experienced.
If you want the best, hit Saturday the 4th of July morning at Keurbooms – 7ft SE groundswell, 13-second period, glassy. Wednesday the 8th of July morning is also a standout for the more hardcore – 8ft SW, 14-second period, clean and strong. Everything after that Thursday is either too big or too windy for a while, but the outlook turns back around by the 18th.
Rusty.
