Table - best surf conditions forecast for Keurbooms over the next 16 days.
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let's get into what Keurbooms is serving up over the next couple of weeks. The first swell of interest shows up Monday, the 13th of July, with a bit of a wait before things get really interesting.
We kick off Monday morning with clean, glassy conditions. The water is a bit colder than normal at 62°, with a moderate amount of wave energy pushing through (500). Swell is a tidy 4ft from the SSW with a decent 10-second period. It's not huge, but it's clean and rideable. Monday afternoon stays glassy with a slight shift to a 4ft SSW swell, still a solid amount of energy behind it (436). A nice, easy start to the week.
Tuesday morning sees the swell size bump up to 5ft, coming from the ESE with a 9-second period. Still glassy, so the surface will be smooth, but the period is a little short. Tuesday afternoon gets a bit tricky with a cross-shore wind, making it a more marginal call.
Come Wednesday morning, it's back to small and clean with a 3ft E swell. But Wednesday afternoon is where we see a real jump in quality. That swell jumps to 5ft from the SW with an 11-second period, and the energy in the water surges to strong levels (1100). Glassy conditions mean this will be some very clean, fun surf. This is one of the standout windows for the average surfer.
Now, Thursday the 16th of July is where it gets serious for the experienced crew. Morning and afternoon both offer excellent conditions. We're looking at a solid 8ft to 8ft SW swell (2867 and 2107 energy respectively) with a long, powerful 13 to 14-second period. The wind stays light and glassy. This is proper groundswell, and it's going to be well overhead with plenty of push. Not a day for beginners, but if you know what you're doing, this is the pick of the first week.
Friday the 17th brings a monster 10ft SW swell, but it's simply too big for this break. The energy is absolutely pumping (2176), and with a strong 15 mph cross-offshore wind, it will be clean, but the size is just stacked. For paddle surfing, it's a no-go. For the same reason, Saturday and a few days after that remain blown out or too big.
We have a bit of a gap for a few days, but by Monday the 20th, the swell drops back to a manageable 4ft from the SW with glassy conditions in the morning. A good session for a mellow paddle.
The second week brings another pulse of serious power. Tuesday the 21st of July morning shows a 8ft SSW swell with a very long 16-second period and a strong 19 mph cross-offshore wind from the NNW. The energy is immense (3629). This is a serious, powerful groundswell, but that wind will keep the face clean for those who can handle it. The afternoon ramps up to a massive 13ft SW swell (5878 energy) with a solid offshore wind, but again, it's far too big for this spot.
The pattern continues through Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd with 12ft to 13ft SW swells, all with readings that say it’s too big. The energy numbers are off the charts (5751, 4170, 3184). These are expert-only conditions, and honestly, it's going to be a washing machine.
Finally, the swell eases heading into the weekend of the 25th and 26th of July. Saturday the 25th morning offers a much more reasonable 5ft SW swell with a light cross-offshore breeze, cleaning up nicely. This will be the best bet for most folks in the second week. Sunday the 26th is smaller but gets chopped up by a moderate onshore breeze, so not one to set your alarm for. The outlook finishes with a return to small, clean glassy conditions on the 27th and 28th, with 4ft to 6ft SSW swells on offer.
So, the real standout windows: Thursday the 16th of July for the experienced surfer looking for a powerful, clean groundswell. For everyone else, Wednesday the 15th of July afternoon and the morning of Monday the 20th of July are your best bets for clean, fun waves.
Rusty.
