Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the surf over the next couple of weeks for Keurbooms. We’ve got a solid run of waves on the way, but you’ve got to pick your moments because the wind and size will change things up.
We kick off with a beauty on Saturday the 4th of July. The water’s sitting at a cool 63°, which is about what you’d expect for this time of year. Saturday morning is where it’s at: clean, glassy conditions with a nice 7ft swell rolling in from the ESE at 12 seconds. There’s plenty of energy in the water and the waves are going to be well-shaped, but at this size, it’s more for the experienced crew. Beginners might find it a bit much. Crowds are possible here, so get in early for a solo session. Saturday afternoon stays clean with a 6ft swell, still looking excellent.
Sunday the 5th drops off a little in size – 5ft in the morning and 4ft in the afternoon – but it’s still glassy with that same ESE groundswell. The energy is more moderate, so it’s a good day for the intermediates to get amongst it. Very good conditions.
Monday the 6th is a bit of a mixed bag. The morning fires up with a solid 6ft SW groundswell and glassy winds – that’s the standout session of the day for sure. But by the afternoon, the wind swings E and goes cross-on, dropping the wave quality to poor. So you’ll want to be in the water early.
Tuesday the 7th is a cracker. Morning and afternoon both glassy with a 7ft to 6ft SW swell, solid energy, and excellent conditions. This is a top pick for experienced surfers all day.
Wednesday the 8th stays solid with 8ft to 8ft SW and SSW swell. The wind is light and cross-off, keeping things clean. Energy is strong. This is still excellent surfing, but at 8ft, it’s for the experts only.
Now, Thursday the 9th is where things get too big. We’re looking at 10ft SSW swell with a long 14-second period. The energy is pumping, but that’s simply too much for this break – it’s going to be a washing machine. Only for the crazy ones, and even then, the wind is cross-on. Give it a miss.
Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th are a write-off. The swell is still solid (8ft to 5ft) but the wind is onshore and choppy. Marginal at best. Not worth the drive.
After that, we get a breather. Sunday the 12th brings a nice little change: glassy conditions, smaller 4ft swell from the E with a shorter 9-second period. It’s clean and fun, more manageable for everyone. Energy is lower, but the conditions are good.
From Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th, we’ve got smaller, clean waves with a mix of cross-off and glassy winds. Swell hangs around 2ft to 5ft from the E and SE. Nothing huge, but good for a cruise and a few turns.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th go flat with tiny 2ft to 2ft swell. Glassy in the mornings, but barely any push. More of a paddle than a surf.
Then, to close out the forecast, Saturday the 18th of July looks promising again. Morning has a 4ft SW groundswell with a very long 15-second period and offshore winds – that’s going to produce some clean, lined-up waves. The afternoon bumps up to 5ft with a 14-second period and cross-off wind, giving excellent conditions for experienced surfers again. A great way to end the run.
Sunday the 19th stays fun with 5ft to 4ft SW swell and light winds, glassy in the afternoon.
Verdict: The standouts are Saturday 4th July morning and Saturday 18th July morning. The 4th has the combo of size, glass, and groundswell from the ESE – a proper session. The 18th has that long-period SW groundswell with offshore wind, which should give some beautiful, clean lines. For the earlier dates, grab the mornings before the afternoon wind messes it up.
Stay stoked.
