Alright, this is Rusty. Let's take a look at what’s rolling in.
So, we’re only talking about one spot: Fence (Port Elizabeth). There’s a real mix of conditions coming down the pike, from small clean days to serious overhead power. Water temp is 63°F, which is about 4°F colder than usual for this time of year – that’s a noticeable bite.
We start off Monday morning, July 6th, with a small 3ft swell from the ESE, 11-second period, and glassy conditions. Energy is low, only 354, so it’s a lazy longboard session. That afternoon goes onshore, so the morning is the only window.
Tuesday morning, July 7th, gets a little better. Swell hits 4ft from the SW, period 13 seconds, and a clean moderate offshore wind. Energy is 480. It’s a nice, manageable size for beginners. Tuesday afternoon stays clean with a cross-offshore breeze and 4ft swell.
Wednesday morning, July 8th, kicks it up a notch. Swell is 4ft from the SSW, 13-second period, with a clean offshore wind. Energy climbs to 674. The waves are starting to shape up well. Wednesday afternoon is clean but with a fresh 30 mph offshore wind, so it’s a bit blown out.
Thursday morning, July 9th, is the first real standout. We’ve got 8ft of SSW swell, 13-second period, with a moderate offshore wind. The energy rockets to 3534 – that’s serious power. This is strictly for experts. The afternoon hits 10ft but gets a cross-offshore wind, so the morning is the cleanest.
Friday morning, July 10th, is the king of the run. Dead calm, glassy, with 10ft of S swell and a 14-second period. Energy is 3039. This is big, groundswell power. Long lines, heavy faces. If you’re not ready for solid overhead, sit this one out. Friday afternoon goes onshore and drops fast.
The weekend is a mixed bag. Saturday morning, July 11th, has 5ft but a cross-onshore wind makes it bumpy. Saturday afternoon gets a fresh 30 mph offshore wind, but the swell is 8ft with a terrible 7-second period – windswell junk. Sunday, July 12th, is all cross-shore wind and 8ft of short-period swell. Not one for the logbook.
Monday morning, July 13th, is another major standout. 8ft from the ESE, period 9 seconds, with a gentle offshore wind. Energy is 2712. It’s clean, powerful, and offshore. This is for advanced surfers only. Monday afternoon stays clean with a cross-offshore breeze.
Tuesday, July 14th, is still excellent. 7ft from the ESE, 10-second period, with light clean wind all day. Energy sits around 1400. A great day for strong intermediates and up.
After that, it fades. Wednesday, July 15th, drops to 5ft, then it gets small and weak through Thursday and Friday of the second week. There are a few clean moments on Friday, July 17th, with 5ft and clean wind, but the big energy is gone. The rest of the run from July 16th to the 21st is mostly small or onshore, with energy staying under 1000.
To sum it up: if you’re experienced, Thursday morning, July 9th and Monday morning, July 13th are your top bets. But Friday morning, July 10th is the absolute best – glassy, solid, and heavy. For the beginners, Tuesday morning July 7th and Wednesday morning July 8th are your safest windows before the big stuff hits.
