Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, let’s switch to feet and Fahrenheit, same story.
We’re at Fence (Port Elizabeth). Water’s sitting at 63°F, which is about 4°F colder than usual for this time of year – that’s a notable chill, so don’t skimp on the rubber.
The first real surf shows up Sunday morning, July 5th. Not firing, but you’ve got a clean 5ft SE swell with a long 12-second period. Light cross-shore wind will have it a bit lumpy early. By the afternoon, it turns glassy with a light NNW breeze and a 4ft SE swell. Small and clean.
Monday morning the 6th of July is a beauty. Dead calm, glassy conditions with a 3ft ESE swell at 11 seconds. Tiny, but perfect for a longboard session. Tuesday morning the 7th brings a nice offshore WSW breeze at 12 mph with a 4ft SW swell, 13-second period. Clean lines, good rhythm.
Now, Thursday the 9th of July is the one for the advanced crew. A 8ft SSW swell at 14 seconds, with a clean 12 mph offshore wind. Combined energy is a very strong 3852. That’s serious power – experts only. The afternoon holds but gets a bit rough.
Friday the 10th of July throws a big 10ft S swell, also 14 seconds. That’s heavy. Wind is light cross-on, so it’ll be bumpy. Energy at 2908. This is big, dangerous, and only for the experienced.
The weekend of the 11th and 12th is all onshore and rain. Forget it. Sunday afternoon sees a cleaner 4ft S swell under light cross-off wind, but it’s nothing special.
Monday the 13th of July delivers a 7ft E swell, but the period is a short 8 seconds – bouncy windswell. Light cross-off wind in the morning makes it okay for a grovel, but don’t expect gems.
Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th are small and clean (4ft to 5ft) with light winds – just average.
Then Friday the 17th of July afternoon – that’s a standout. A clean 8ft SW swell with an 11-second period and a solid 15 mph offshore breeze. Energy of 1637. Powerful, clean, and for the experienced only. Mark it.
The following weekend, July 18th and 19th, is a mess. A massive 18ft SSW swell on Saturday morning with energy of 16220 – that’s enormous – but the wind is a messy cross-onshore at 19 mph. Ugly and too dangerous. Later days are all blown out and onshore.
Verdict: The best windows are Thursday morning the 9th of July (8ft, clean offshore, long period) and Friday afternoon the 17th of July (8ft, clean offshore, powerful). Everything else is either too small, too blown, or too big and messy.
Rusty.
