The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, breakin’ down the next two weeks at Bruces Beauties. This is a fickle reef, so don’t be expectin’ a party every day.
The first real surfable window is Thursday, July 16th, but it’s a weak one. We’re lookin’ at a 3ft swell from the east, 11-second period, and the energy is just 144. It’s light cross-off, so the surface is clean, but it’s just ordinary. Same story for Friday, July 17th, with tiny waves. The afternoon goes glassy, which is nice, but there’s nothin’ to ride.
Saturday, July 18th, we get a pulse of 4ft swell from the south, with moderate energy of 428. The wind is still cross-off, so it’s clean, but the call is “marginal.” It’s a bit of a tease.
Sunday, July 19th, and Monday morning, July 20th, are total washouts. Sunday has rain and 25 mph winds, and the swell vanishes. Monday morning is a cross-on mess. But Monday afternoon, July 20th, is the first real standout. The swell jumps to 6ft from the SSW, 11-second period, and the energy hits 865. The wind goes offshore at 9 mph. The report says “very good conditions.” This is the one to circle. It’s clean, offshore, and has some power.
Tuesday, July 21st, the early morning is a big one: 8ft from the SSW with a 14-second period, and the energy is a massive 3169. That’s expert-only, big and heavy, and the wind is cross-off. It’s too much for most. The afternoon drops off to nothing.
Then we get a long, flat spell. From Tuesday afternoon, July 21st, through Thursday, July 23rd, it’s all tiny, poor surf. A real dead zone.
Friday, July 24th, the morning has a 5ft swell from the SSW with a 12-second period, and the wind is offshore at 16 mph. The energy is 701, so it’s a solid wave. The afternoon on Friday gets even better: 4ft, offshore, and the report says “very good.” That’s your second standout.
Saturday, July 25th, the morning sees a 6ft, 17-second groundswell from the SSW. That’s a very long period, and the energy is 2135. This is a big, powerful groundswell. It’ll be best for the reef or point, but it’s a serious wave for experienced surfers only.
After Saturday, the swell just fades. There’s a small bump on Monday, July 27th, with a 5ft, 14-second swell from the south, but the wind is onshore, makin’ it choppy. The rest of the week is tiny, weak, and blown out.
So here’s the deal: Monday afternoon, July 20th, is your best bet with that clean, offshore 6ft swell. Friday afternoon, July 24th, is the other solid session. The rest is either flat, blown out, or too big for the average surfer. Pick your windows wisely.
Rusty.
