Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, I’m Rusty, and I’ve got the surf outlook for Bruces Beauties. Looks like we’re in for a run of wild swings—some real gems, some total write-offs.
The first part of the forecast kicks off on Saturday, July 4th, with some decent but tricky swell. The overall pattern is up-and-down, with a couple of standout days tucked away in the second week that are worth circling on the calendar. There’s a long gap of weak, small surf from Tuesday, July 7th through Monday, July 13th—barely a ripple—so don’t bother padding up in that stretch.
Let’s jump in. Saturday, July 4th sees a solid 7 ft swell from the SE with a 12-second period, but the wind is a light cross-shore from the NW at 6 mph, making things a bit bumpy. The combined energy is strong (1220). Not perfect, but there’s potential. Later that afternoon, the wind shifts to a S breeze at just 3 mph, going cross-offshore, and the swell drops to 6 ft from the SE. That’s clean, and the energy is still solid (977). That afternoon window is your best local bet for the long weekend.
Sunday, July 5th drops off fast: 5 ft morning swell with a light cross-on wind, not worth the paddle. The afternoon cleans up a bit with an offshore breeze, but the swell is only 4 ft from the ESE—small but rideable.
Monday, July 6th starts with a stunning morning: glassy conditions, a light NW breeze at 3 mph, and 3 ft ESE swell—tiny but clean as a whistle. The energy is weak (209), so it’s a longboard or funboard kinda session.
From Tuesday, July 7th through Monday, July 13th, it’s flat or nearly flat. Swell sizes below 3 ft, mostly under 75 combined energy—barely enough to get wet.
Now, the real action picks up again from Wednesday, July 15th into the end of the forecast. On Wednesday afternoon, July 15th, an offshore wind from the SW at 12 mph blows over 4 ft SE swell, but the period is short at 6 seconds—weak energy (130) and dumpy waves. Skip it.
Here’s the standout: Thursday, July 16th. The afternoon is absolutely pumping for advanced surfers. A fresh offshore wind from the SW at 19 mph, combined with a 16 ft S swell at an 11-second period, is packing very strong energy (6443). That’s big, powerful, and offshore—clean from the first drop to the exit. This is a true standout, but it’s only for experts. Inconsistent spot too, so don’t expect it to fire like this all the time.
Friday, July 17th keeps the size going: 12 ft SSE swell in the morning, with moderate offshore winds, energy raging (5174). The afternoon has a fresh offshore breeze and 10 ft SSE swell, still strong (4329). Both sessions are clean and powerful—another expert window.
The forecast goes to hell after that. Saturday, July 18th has a 37 mph cross-offshore wind from the SSE with 10 ft swell—dangerous levels of breeze, not surfable. Sunday, July 19th stays nasty with gale-force offshore winds. That’s kite-surf territory, not paddling.
For the whole period, if you got one day to chase, it’s the afternoon of Thursday, July 16th—big, clean, and committed. The morning of Friday, July 17th is a close second. Everything else is either flat, blown out, or too small.
Rusty.
