Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Bruces Beauties. This is a tricky little reef that doesn’t fire all that often, but when it does, it can be a proper session. Don’t go gettin’ excited straight away though, ‘cause the first few days are a bit of a write-off.
The swell is pretty anemic to start. Sunday the 5th has a bit of energy but the morning is a write-off with a cross-onshore wind messing things up. The afternoon cleans right up though, with a nice 4ft swell from the ESE (moderate wave energy of 433). It’s an offshore, so the face will be clean, but it’s inconsistent here so don’t expect a wave every minute. The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is a touch cooler than usual for this time of year.
Monday the 6th starts off all-time glassy with a tiny 3ft ESE groundswell (209). It’s small, but when it’s glassy like that, a long period groundswell like this (11 seconds) can really line up on the reef. The afternoon gets choppy again, so the morning is the only call.
Tuesday the 7th drops right off, and honestly, there’s nothing worth paddling out for Wednesday or Thursday. That’s a solid three-day gap of flat or nearly flat conditions.
Now, hold onto your board, because Friday the 10th is the standout. The morning is absolutely pumping: a solid 12ft SSW groundswell with a 13-second period and a combined energy reading of 4464. That is serious power. The wind is dead glassy. But – and this is a big but – this is an exposed reef, and 12ft is big. This is expert territory only. The afternoon gets trashed by a strong cross-onshore, so the window is tight. Later that day, and into Saturday the 11th, the onshore winds ruin it – big, messy, lumpy junk.
Sunday the 12th is the next bright spot. A clean 4ft SSW swell rolls in with light winds, delivering solid, surfable waves (1021). The sets will be clean and the period (11 seconds) gives it some push. This is the pick for the less experienced crew – still a reef, still inconsistent, but much more manageable.
The following week gets messy again. A big pulse on Wednesday the 15th with 5ft from the east, but the period is a short and weak 6 seconds, so the shape won’t be there. Thursday the 16th has a strong offshore breeze that’s too strong to paddle into comfortably. Then another absolute bomb shows up on Saturday the 18th: 13ft S swell (5302), but with a howling cross-onshore. That’s a kite-surfing setup if I ever saw one, not a paddler’s dream.
The last few days of the outlook are blown out or too big and messy.
To sum it up: Your best bets are the glassy morning of Friday the 10th for experts only, and the clean Sunday the 12th for everyone else. Anything else in the first week is tiny, and the second week is mostly a write-off with size but no quality.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
