Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, let’s have a look at what Bruce’s Beauties has got cooking for us. This is a proper reef setup, exposed to the south-east, and it likes a solid south-east groundswell. It’s an advanced spot, and it’s inconsistent, so when it turns on, you better be ready.
First thing to note: the water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so nothing weird going on there.
Alright, the outlook starts on Saturday, 4th July. We’ve got chest-to-head-high swell, 7 ft from the SE with a 12-second period, but the morning wind is a light cross-shore from the NNW, which makes things a bit lumpy. The combined energy is moderate (1315). It’s not terrible, but not perfect. The afternoon cleans right up, though – a light offshore from the S, 3 mph, and the swell drops a fraction to 6 ft. That afternoon session on Saturday is where you want to be if you’re keen. Clean waves, not too big.
Sunday, 5th July, the swell drops to 5 ft. Morning is cross-shore again, not ideal. The afternoon gets a south-southwest offshore at 6 mph, making it clean, but it’s only waist-to-chest high. Decent enough for a cruise, but nothing to write home about.
Monday, 6th July, the swell is down to 3 ft. The morning is glassy with a light NE breeze and the combined energy is a weak 205. It’s tiny. The afternoon goes onshore and choppy – don't bother.
From Tuesday, 7th July through to Wednesday, 8th July, the swell is almost flat. Combined energy drops below 100. There’s absolutely nothing to ride. A real dead spell.
Now, hold on. Thursday, 9th July, it all changes. A proper pulse of swell arrives: 10 ft from the SSW with a 13-second period. The combined energy jumps to a strong 3506. The morning is glassy with a 3 mph SSW breeze – that’s clean, clean, clean. This is for experienced surfers only, as it’s over 8 ft. The afternoon stays clean with a light cross-offshore wind. This is a standout: proper groundswell, perfect conditions, and that reef will handle the long period beautifully. Just remember it’s inconsistent, so this might be the only show in town for a while.
Friday, 10th July, keeps the size at 10 ft with another glassy morning. The afternoon gets a bit cross-shore and the score drops due to marginal tide conditions, but the morning is your window. Another excellent session.
Saturday, 11th July, the swell is still solid at 8 ft, but the wind swings onshore from the ENE at 19 mph. It’s lumpy and messy. Not recommended.
Sunday, 12th July, the swell drops to 4 ft, but the wind is onshore or cross-onshore and choppy. Poor.
Monday, 13th July, the swell is only 3 ft. The morning has a light offshore from the W and is clean, but it’s small. A low-energy day.
Then we hit another flat spell from Tuesday, 14th July through to Thursday, 16th July. Combined energy is less than 100. Barely a ripple.
Friday, 17th July afternoon, watch out. The data shows a massive spike: 13 ft from the SSW with a very long 15-second period. The combined energy is an incredible 8143, the strongest in the whole window. The wind is a moderate cross-offshore from the WSW at 16 mph, keeping it clean. This is a beast of a swell, but the data flags marginal tide conditions. This is for the most experienced big-wave chargers only. It’s 16 days out, so keep an eye on it – it’s promising but not certain.
Saturday, 18th July, the swell eases to 10 ft, still a solid groundswell, and Sunday, 19th July, drops to 6 ft. The winds are a bit mixed, and the tide conditions are flagged as questionable for these days, so it’s not the prime time.
The real standouts here are the Thursday 9th and Friday 10th July sessions – glassy conditions with a solid 10 ft SSW groundswell. Pure gold for the crew who know the reef. And keep your eye on that Friday 17th July afternoon pulse – it could be absolutely monumental, but it’s a long way off.
Stay safe, and time your paddle.
