The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s see what El Sardinero - Primera has on the menu.
Water temperature is about normal for the season – nothin’ to worry about one way or the other. The early part of the outlook is a slow burn. Friday the 21st has some energy—combined swell energy is 429—but the wind is all over it with a cross-off, and the report says marginal. Not a goer.
Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd are out. The wind is onshore and pushy, and the swell has dropped to piddly little 2-3 foot slop with no energy behind it. You’d be wasting your time. Monday the 24th is flat as a pancake and glassy – maybe a 2-foot ripple.
Things only start to look up on Thursday the 27th. Morning brings a clean 3ft with a side-off breeze, but the energy is still low (181). You could probably scratch a few rides, but it’s nothin’ special.
Then we get to the main event: Friday the 28th of August. This is the one. The swell jumps to a solid 8ft of NW groundswell, with a nice 11-second period. The wind goes light offshore from the SW – that’s clean, glassy faces. The combined energy is pumping at 1298. This is powerful, heavy surf. It’s for experts only. If you’re not ready for a 8-foot set, be smart and watch from the beach.
The afternoon of the 28th sees it drop a little (7ft) with a side-off breeze. Still good, just not the peak of the morning. After that, the weekend and start of September has some clean, smaller days around 3-4ft (glassy on the 30th morning and 31st morning), but nothing that compares to that Friday blast. A weak bump on the 1st of September comes with short-period slop (6 seconds) – not worth chasing.
Bottom line: Point your truck at Friday the 28th morning session. The rest of the 16 days is mostly flat or blown out.
Rusty.
