Table - best surf conditions forecast for El Sardinero - Primera over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer at El Sardinero - Primera.
Right off the bat, I’ve gotta be straight with you: the next week and a half is a grind. We’re looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak waves and poor conditions. The water is sitting at 71°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing that’s slightly out of the ordinary. From the 12th of July through the 19th, it’s a whole lot of nothing. The swell is small, the period is short, and the combined energy is barely registering (45), so you’re not missing much. It’s a proper blank run for the area.
We finally get a little pulse of life on the 20th of July. Monday morning there’s a bit of a push with 3ft of NW swell, period around 7 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to a moderate 183. The wind is WSW, blowing cross-offshore, which will keep the surface clean. It’s surfable but very ordinary. By Monday afternoon, the wind swings cross-on and the quality drops.
The real standout, the one that’s got me paying attention, is Thursday the 23rd of July. In the afternoon, we see a solid 8ft NNW swell with a period of 11 seconds, and the combined energy is a strong 1390. That’s proper groundswell energy. The wind is NW at 9 mph, blowing cross-offshore, which should keep things clean. This is a big swell though, over 8ft, so this is strictly for the experienced crew. The longer period means the waves will have shape and power, but it’s a beach break setup, so it might be a bit straight and heavy.
Friday the 24th of July morning is still looking decent – 5ft of NNW swell, period 10 seconds, and the combined energy is a solid 620. The wind is light WNW, cross-offshore, so it’ll be clean. That’s a good window for the intermediate surfers who found Thursday a bit too heavy.
The rest of the second week trails off again into small, weak, and messy conditions. Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th are back to tiny, poor surf, so don’t get your hopes up for the weekend.
So, to wrap it up: you’ve got a long wait. The best bet for the experienced surfers is the afternoon of the 23rd of July, and the morning of the 24th is the best all-rounder for the crew looking for something a bit more manageable. The rest of the time, it’s a flat spell.
Rusty.
