The Lowdown
Right on, let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line at El Sardinero - Primera. It’s been a quiet spell, and honestly, the start of this stretch is a bit of a write-off. We’ve got nothing but tiny, weak waves and poor conditions through the 18th, 19th, and most of the 20th. A real frustrating gap to get through.
Things finally show a pulse on Thursday the 20th morning. We get a little bump of 3 ft from the NNW with an 11-second period, and the combined energy is a moderate 247. It’s clean with a cross-offshore breeze, so it’s surfable but very ordinary. The afternoon gets messy with cross-on wind and rain, so don’t bank on it.
Now, Friday the 21st is where it gets good. Morning brings a clean 5 ft from the NNW, period at 10 seconds, and a solid energy reading of 520. The wind is offshore light from the WSW, setting up clean lines. By the afternoon, it goes glassy, with the swell picking up a touch to 5 ft, energy still strong at 500. This is the standout of the whole window – clean, good energy, and that offshore/glassy combo is a dream. For the more experienced crew, it’s a proper session.
Saturday the 22nd morning has a drop to 3 ft from the NW, but with glassy conditions and a light offshore, it’s a fun, clean leftover. The afternoon gets blown out with a strong cross-shore, so make the most of the morning.
We hit another dry spell from the 23rd through to the 28th. Lots of tiny swell, poor wind, and no real juice. A few moments of glassy conditions on the 23rd and 25th mornings, but the swell is just too small to get excited about.
The next real chance rolls in on Saturday the 29th morning. We’ve got 4 ft from the NW at 10 seconds, energy back up to 252, and a clean cross-offshore wind. It’s surfable but still very ordinary. Sunday the 30th morning is glassy with 3 ft from the NW, but it’s small and clean – a longboard kind of morning.
Then, hold onto your board. Tuesday the 1st of September afternoon looks promising. The swell builds to 4 ft from the NNW, period stretching to 11 seconds, and energy at 405. Wind is cross-offshore from the west, and it’s clean. The real gem, though, is Wednesday the 2nd of September morning. We’ve got 7 ft from the NNW, a 12-second period, and the energy is a beastly 1884. The wind is glassy. This is a big, powerful, clean groundswell. It’s for experts only at that size, and a long period swell like that will be lining up best for the reef and points, but the quality on offer is top shelf. That’s your long-range promise, but keep an eye on it.
Water temp is about average for this time of year, no big anomaly to talk about here.
