Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ocean Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming up at Ocean Beach – a classic San Francisco beach and reef setup. Water temp is sitting at 55°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so don’t forget a good hood.
Honestly, the first week is a bit of a write-off for most of us. The wind is howling from the south early on Friday, the 10th, with a massive 13-foot SE swell. That’s an enormous amount of energy (3106), and it’s just too big for this spot. By Friday afternoon, the swell drops to 8 feet, but the wind is still messy. Saturday the 11th morning looks better with a 7-foot ESE swell and a light WSW cross-off breeze, making things clean. The wave energy is moderate (924), but the sets will have a nice shape. Saturday afternoon sees a drop to 6 feet but the wind swings to a southerly, chopping it up.
The standout of the whole run is actually Sunday the 12th morning. We’ve got a clean, glassy session with that light westerly offshore wind, and although the swell is small at 3 feet, it’s a long-period 14-second groundswell from the SSW. Energy is low (573), but that long period means the waves will have a lot of push and shape. It’s a classic sneaky good morning for a log.
The rest of the week is small and weak. Monday and Tuesday see a dropping swell and poor conditions. Wednesday the 15th is tiny, with 2-foot waves and nothing to write home about. Thursday the 16th afternoon might be the most interesting of the doldrums: a glassy, tiny 2-foot ESE swell, but with a 14-second period – it’ll be smooth and clean for a micro-session.
Now, looking into the second week – things get more promising but less certain. Friday the 17th morning brings a solid 6-foot ESE swell, with a 15-second period and a cross-off wind. Energy is strong (1630), but it’s borderline too big for beginners. This is a good one for experienced surfers, though the wind picks up in the afternoon. Saturday the 18th morning is your best bet of the second week: a 6-foot SE swell, 14-second period, light cross-off winds, and very clean conditions. The energy is still strong (1330). That’s a proper session for the crew who know what they’re doing.
After that, the wind turns onshore, and the swell drops. The next real highlight is on the 25th, Saturday morning. It’s a bit of a gamble that far out, but the forecast shows a 7-foot ENE swell with a clean cross-off wind from the northwest and light rain. The wave energy is moderate (734), and the conditions look very good. This could be a fun one for the weekend warriors.
Overall, the first week is a mix of too big, then too small, but Sunday the 12th morning is a true glassy gem. The second week’s best bets are Saturday the 18th morning and possibly Saturday the 25th, but keep an eye on those – forecasts can change.
Rusty.
