The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. We’ve got a solid 16-day window ahead at Stent Road, but it’s not all smooth sailing. The first few days are a write-off with onshore winds and messy conditions, so we’ll have to wait for the good stuff to line up.
The real action kicks off on Monday morning, July 20th. The wind goes light and cross-offshore, and that big, long-period groundswell from the WSW is still pushing through at about 6 feet. The wave energy is moderate (1317), but the conditions are clean. This is a spot for experienced surfers only—that swell is solid, and the reef and point setup means it’ll be handling that energy nicely. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing weird going on.
Tuesday, July 21st, is the standout of the first week. The swell drops a touch to about 4 feet, but the wind goes glassy in the morning—dead calm. The energy is weaker (644), but those long 13-second intervals will line up perfectly on the point. It’s clean, it’s glassy, and it’s the kind of morning you dream about. Crowds could be a factor here, as this spot can get busy when it’s good.
We hit a rough patch from Wednesday, July 22, through the weekend. Strong onshore winds and a building swell make for poor surf conditions. By Saturday, July 25, we’re looking at 10-foot+ swell with 28 mph winds—that’s a mess, and honestly, it’s more of a kite-surfing show than a paddle session.
The next real window opens on Monday morning, July 27th. The wind is light and cross-offshore again, with a clean 7-foot swell from the WSW. The energy is solid (1398), and the waves are set up for experienced surfers. Monday afternoon gets even better—the wind drops to glassy, and the swell is about 7 feet from the west. The period is a bit shorter at 8 seconds, but the glassy conditions will make it feel like a million bucks.
Looking further ahead, Thursday morning, July 30th, has a big 8-foot swell from the WSW with a very long 15-second period. The wind is cross-on, so it’s not perfect, but the energy is strong (3310). This one is promising but less certain—keep an eye on it.
The best of the second week could be Friday, July 31st. The morning shows a clean 8-foot swell from the WSW with a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is high (2249), and the conditions are clean. It’s a big swell, so it’s for the experienced crew only.
And finally, the window closes with a bang on Saturday morning, August 1st. We’re looking at a massive 15-foot swell from the west with a 13-second period. The energy is extreme (7683). The wind is cross-shore, so it’s a bit tricky, but for the experts, this is a beast of a groundswell. It’s a long way out, so don’t book your flights yet, but it’s something to have on the radar.
Rusty out.
