Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stent Road over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's on the table for Stent Road. We've got a bit of a slow start, but some serious potential further down the line. This spot is an advanced reef-and-point setup that works best with a good SW swell. Water temps are sitting at 58°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year. However, the start of the run looks flat.
The first real sniff of a wave doesn't show up until Wednesday the 19th. Overnight on Tuesday the 18th, there's some swell, but the wind is all wrong – a cross-onshore breeze is making a mess of it. The first morning that's actually worth a look is Wednesday morning, August 19th. You're looking at a 6ft swell from the WSW with a clean cross-offshore wind from the SE. The wave energy is healthy (2040), and it's clean, but the surf forecast is marginal. The period drops later in the afternoon.
Thursday the 20th shows a similar story – a 6ft WSW swell with a period of 14 seconds. The morning is clean with a very light cross-onshore breeze, but the forecast is also marginal. The afternoon turns full onshore.
From Friday the 21st right through the weekend, it gets ugly. We have a run of poor surf conditions, some rain, and strong onshore winds. The swell gets messy and choppy, making it a total write-off. You're looking at a solid four to five days of nothing much. Don't bother.
Now, pay attention because things change. A massive pulse of long-period SW groundswell builds into the next week. Monday, August 24th, is the standout for the whole forecast. The morning brings a 13ft swell from the WSW with a very long 16-second period. The wind is light onshore, but the energy reading is a colossal 7211. This is not for the faint of heart. That’s a proper pulse, but with a period that long and that size, it'll be sucking straight down the point and only for advanced surfers. The crowd factor is high – this is a well-known spot.
The following week sees that swell ease down, but the conditions get tricky. Sunday, August 30th, we see another big pulse. The morning reads a 16ft swell, but the wind is howling offshore from the SE at 25 mph. The afternoon sees a 20ft swell with a 14-second period pushing a combined energy of 12454. It stays clean due to the cross-offshore wind, but it's a solid clean-up set.
And then, the real best conditions of the entire run look to be on Monday, August 31st. There is an 11 out of 10 on the cards for the morning. The wind is cross-offshore, the swell is 23ft from the WSW with a 15-second period and an energy of 20493. The file explicitly says the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. It's an expert-only zone and will be absolutely charging. If you are a pro, that is the window.
Finally, for the start of September, we get glassy conditions. Tuesday, September 1st, the morning is dead calm with an 12ft swell and a 9-second period. It's excellent for experienced surfers, clean, and glassy. The standout window is August 31st morning if you've got the skills. Otherwise, wait for the glass-off on the 1st.
Rusty out.
