Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stent Road over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty with a long look at Stent Road. The window is 16 days from now, and things start off a bit rough but there’s a big payoff if you’re patient.
The first few days are more about waiting. Nothing really worth paddling out for until we get a bit of a reset mid-week. The real standout is shaping up to be the morning of Wednesday, 15 July, with a powerful 10ft swell from the west, but the combination of a very long 16-second period and huge 4997 (moderate to strong) combined energy makes it more of a challenge. It’s a reef and point setup, so it should handle the size better than a beach break, and the light 6 mph cross-shore from the NNW will keep it reasonably clean, even with some scattered rain showers. This one is for advanced surfers only; that's expert territory with size over 8ft.
After that, the week stays active but messy. Wednesday afternoon through Thursday brings more big swell (10ft to 12ft) but the winds turn cross-onshore and get stronger, creating lumpy, choppy conditions. From Friday, 17 July through the weekend, we’ve got a fresh breeze and a lot of chop, making it a kite surfer’s setup rather than a pure paddle session. The best call of that stretch would be Sunday, 19 July, when the wind swings to a clean cross-offshore from the SE and the swell drops to a more manageable 7ft to 8ft with a long period around 16 to 17 seconds, delivering good shape for the point.
Then comes a solid run of quality. Monday, 20 July morning is clean with a 6ft WSW swell and a gentle 9 mph cross-offshore from the SE. Things look even sweeter on Tuesday, 21 July morning: the wind goes nearly offshore from the east at just 3 mph and the swell holds at 4ft with a 13-second period. It’s not huge, but it’ll be clean and glassy. The water temp is sitting at 59°, which is 2° warmer than average for this time of year – a nice little bonus for your wetsuit thickness.
The last week of the window shows a lot of consistent but smaller swell. The mornings of Thursday, 23 July through Saturday, 25 July look promising, with glassy conditions. Thursday morning in particular has 4ft from the WSW with 14 seconds and light offshore east wind, and Friday morning is glassy too, with 4ft and a 12-second period. Saturday morning, 25 July, has a tiny 2ft swell but a very long 21-second period, which will wrap beautifully into the point.
Overall, the standout window is the morning of Tuesday, 21 July – the closest thing to perfection in the whole forecast. It won’t be big, but the clean conditions and solid shape make it the best bet for a really enjoyable session. For those wanting more power, that Wednesday morning swell on 15 July is the big one, but it’s only for the brave.
Rusty, signing off.
