Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s on the cards for Stent Road over the next couple of weeks. This is a solid, exposed reef and point setup that likes a good SW swell, so when the conditions line up, it’s a proper wave.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a serious pulse of energy moving through. Monday the 6th sees a big 10ft SW swell piling in, with a very long 14 to 16 second period and a huge combined energy reading (3024). That’s a lot of water moving, but it comes with strong offshore ESE winds at 22 mph. The water’s sitting at 60°F, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year. This is serious, heaving stuff – definitely for the experienced crew only. The morning is the pick, with that clean offshore flow, but the afternoon holds similar size with even more energy (4976). This is raw power.
Tuesday the 7th eases a bit to 8ft to 7ft SW swells, still with that lovely long period (15s). The wind turns lighter and cross-offshore, making for clean conditions. Excellent surf for those who know what they’re doing, but still a solid size that’ll push you around.
Wednesday the 8th drops off quickly. The morning is small at 4ft but clean enough. By the afternoon, it turns ugly – a short-period 8ft S swell with a fresh cross-shore wind. This is a write-off.
Thursday the 9th is a no-go. We’ve got a near gale screaming in from the SSE, whipping up a huge 13ft to 15ft S swell with a short period and terrible conditions. The combined energy is off the charts (4609 and 6490), but it’s a washing machine. Only for the kamikaze crew, or maybe the kite surfers if they’re brave.
Friday the 10th shows improvement. The swell drops to 7ft but comes from the WSW with a very long 17-second period. Combined energy is still hefty at 3468. The wind is a fresh cross-offshore breeze, so it’ll be clean but still challenging. Saturday the 11th gets smaller again (5ft, 4ft) with lighter winds – nice clean lines for a more relaxed session.
Sunday the 12th is a standout window. 6ft SW swell, 16-second period, and the lightest of winds – a slight air from the SSE in the afternoon, almost glassy. Combined energy (1346) is moderate but the quality is excellent. This is the session to aim for. Clean, powerful, and well-shaped.
After that, the surf tails off through the second week. Monday the 13th has 4ft leftovers, clean but weak. Tuesday the 14th is tiny and poor. The mid-week is small and wind-affected, with only marginal options.
Then we get a promising pulse for the weekend of the 18th and 19th. Saturday the 18th sees another big 10ft WSW swell with a 14-second period, combined energy of 3325, and light cross-offshore winds turning glassy in the afternoon. This is a heavy one – experts only and well worth the wait. Sunday the 19th holds 6ft with light offshore winds, clean and powerful.
The last few days of the forecast see the energy fade again, with onshore winds and smaller surf through Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st.
So, the real highlight is this Sunday the 12th – it’s the cleanest, most user-friendly window of the whole run. For the big-wave hunters, the Monday the 6th and Saturday the 18th sessions are the ones to circle on your calendar. The long period means these swells will pour in with plenty of power, finding the line at Stent Road beautifully, but be ready for those sets to be a bit more spaced out than usual.
Stay safe out there, and don’t be afraid to wait for the right lull.
Rusty.
