Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stent Road over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. We've got a bit of a slow start to this one, but the second half of the week and into the next ten days has some real juice for those who know what they're doing.
We've got a window of solid, powerful groundswell coming in, but the early part of the week is a complete no-go. The first two days (Thursday 9th and Friday 10th) are a total loss – way too much wind to even think about it. We have to wait until Saturday 11th for things to start looking interesting.
Stent Road is the only break in play here, and it's an exposed reef and point setup that only works for advanced surfers. The water is sitting at 59°F and a touch warmer than normal for July, which is a nice little bonus.
The real standout kicks off on Saturday 11th morning. We're looking at a solid 5 feet groundswell from the WSW with a very long period of 15 seconds. The combined energy is strong at (1284). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the SE, so it'll be clean. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers, so get out there. The afternoon backs off a touch with a bit more energy (2048) but a slight drop in quality.
Sunday 12th morning is another beauty. The swell holds at a consistent 6 feet from the WSW, period still a very long 16-17 seconds and the energy is strong (1379). The wind goes glassy from the ENE. For a reef and point break like Stent Road, this long-period groundswell is perfect – it’ll wrap in with real shape and power. It’s a prime window. The afternoon stays clean with a light cross-shore from the north.
Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th are a step down in size and quality, with some cross-offshore breezes and a drop in energy. Not worth getting too excited about.
Now, Tuesday 14th afternoon gets a mention. The swell is 6 feet from the WNW with a much shorter period of 9 seconds. This is on the messier side, but it's glassy from the WSW and the energy is moderate (614). It might be a fun novelty wave if you're board-less.
Wednesday 15th morning comes back with a 7 feet swell from the west, period of 11 seconds, and a solid 1754 energy under a light cross-shore. It’s a bit chunky for the average punter, but for the experienced crew, it's a go.
We then hit a wall of onshore wind from Thursday 16th through Sunday 19th. The swell is still there, but it's blown out. It’s not worth paddling until things reset.
The second week brightens up. Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st show a gradual cleanup, with increasing energy passing the 1000 mark. The real gem in the long-range forecast is Tuesday 21st afternoon. Glassy conditions from the WNW, a clean 4 feet swell from the WSW with a period of 14 seconds and 1270 energy. It's an excellent window for the experienced surfer.
Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd bring in a steady run of offshore winds from the ESE and E, with clean conditions. The size drops off, but the quality is there for a fun, waist-to-chest high session.
Finally, Friday 24th - the tail end of the outlook. The morning is tiny at 2 feet, but Friday afternoon looks like a real wildcard. A 4 feet groundswell from the WSW with a monster period of 19 seconds and 1202 energy, under a moderate offshore from the E. That's an incredibly long-period wave. It’ll be clean, but at a beach break it might break too straight. At Stent Road (a reef and point), this could be a very special, low-crowd session if you're in the know. It's a promise, not a guarantee, this far out.
Bottom line: Saturday and Sunday mornings are your best bet in the near future. After a blowy middle, the second half of the forecast looks like it will deliver clean, well-shaped waves for the experts.
Rusty.
