The Lowdown
Alright, let me have a look at what's cookin' for the next few weeks here at Embleton. I gotta be straight with ya, it's lookin' pretty grim for a long stretch. We've got a real dry spell on our hands.
The first week and a bit is a write-off for any decent surf. Thursday the 16th, we've got tiny little 1ft wind slop with no energy to speak of, and a poor onshore breeze. It just gets worse from there, with strong winds and lumpy, cross-onshore conditions blowing out anything that tries to show up. Honestly, if you're into kite surfing, the blowy days from Friday the 17th through Saturday the 19th might look interesting, but for a paddle surfer, it's a total dud.
We finally see a tiny window of hope on Monday morning, July 21st. It's only 2ft of swell, but the wind goes completely glassy. That's the only time the ocean will look clean, but the waves will be weak and short-period (7 seconds), with a combined energy of only 56. It's surfable, but it's pretty ordinary.
Then it's back into another quiet spell. A few mornings, like Wednesday the 23rd and Saturday the 25th, show some small, clean conditions with offshore or cross-offshore breezes. Saturday the 25th morning has the most size at 4ft, coming from the NNE, with a clean 128 units of energy, but it's still not firing.
The real standout, if you can call it that, is the very end of the forecast. On Friday morning, July 31st, we get a pulse of 5ft swell from the NNE with a period of 7 seconds and moderate energy (183). The wind is a light cross-shore, so it won't be perfect, but it'll be the biggest, most powerful surf we've seen in weeks. It's a long way off though, so don't set your watch by it.
So, to sum it up: we've got a massive gap of poor conditions for the first 5 days, with only a brief, clean but small window on Monday the 21st. The best bet is that hope for the 31st. It's a tough run, but that's how it goes sometimes.
Rusty.
