Table - best surf conditions forecast for Embleton over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks.
It’s a pretty flat start, and honestly, it’s going to be a long wait for anything worthwhile. There’s a stretch of quiet days ahead, so don't be in a rush to paddle out.
We’re looking at Embleton for the only real option, and it's a tough one. The first few days are a write-off with poor surf and strong cross-onshore winds from the north. The swell sticks around the 2ft to 3ft range, but with a shockingly short period of 4 to 5 seconds, it’s just messy and weak, with combined energy barely getting into double digits (16 to 53).
Things try to pick up a little on the 18th of July, with the swell building to 6ft on Saturday morning, but it’s still a lumpy, cross-onshore mess. The energy is moderate at 303, but the wind is going to trash it.
The weekend of the 19th of July shows the biggest swell of the whole period, hitting 8ft from the NNE on Sunday morning. The combined energy is strong at 1058, and the period stretches to 10 seconds, which is a better sign for shape. But here’s the kicker – the wind is still cross-onshore, and the forecast is calling it “poor surf conditions.” It’s a shame, because that size is too meaty for beginners, and with that wind, it’s going to be a bumpy, closed-out mess even for the experienced crew. The afternoon on the 19th sees the wind swing onshore light, but it’s still only a marginal call.
After that, we’re back to tiny, weak dribble for the rest of the month. There’s a brief moment on the morning of the 23rd of July where it’s 3ft and glassy, but the period is a short 7 seconds and the energy is only moderate (105). It’s “surfable but very ordinary” – a longboard and a patient attitude might get you a few.
The 26th of July has another glassy morning with a 3ft swell, but again, it’s weak and short period. You’ll be scratching for waves.
From the 27th of July onwards, it’s a total flat spell. Swell heights drop to 2ft and below, with energy readings in the single digits. There’s nearly a week of nothing to even think about. The very end of the month and into August sees a tiny pulse of SE windswell, but it’s under 2ft with a pitiful 3-5 second period. It’s clean, but not even worth a look.
The Lowdown: The only standout, if you can call it that, is the Sunday morning of the 19th of July at Embleton. It’s the biggest swell of the 16 days at 8ft, and the energy is pumping. But the cross-onshore wind is a deal-breaker for clean surf. This is definitely a spot for experienced surfers only at that size, and even then, it’s going to be a battle. If the wind forecast shifts, it could be a cracker, but as it stands, it’s a frustrating one.
For the rest, it’s a long, flat wait. Stick to the sandbar or the kites, because there’s not much for a paddle surfer to get excited about.
Rusty.
