Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stinky Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Stinky Bay has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough outlook. We’re looking at a long stretch of very small, weak swell with average to poor conditions. The wave energy is almost non-existent for days on end, with combined energy values mostly in the double digits, often under 50, and plenty of days at 20 or below. Honestly, for the first week and a half, it’s a real struggle to find a window that’s worth paddling out for.
The best chance we’ve got, and I’m calling it the standout, is Thursday morning, July 9th. It’s not pumping, but it’s the most rideable we’ll see in the near term. You’ll have a clean 2 ft swell rolling in from the WNW with a 10-second period, and a light cross-off breeze from the NNE at 6 mph. The combined energy is a weak 72, so don’t expect any power, but it’ll be surfable and clean. The water temp is about what you’d expect for this time of year.
Friday morning, July 10th, is also worth a mention. It’s a similar 2 ft from the west with a 9-second period, and the wind is offshore from the ENE at 9 mph. It’ll be clean, but again, the energy is low (64). It’s a gentle session, not a stand-out.
After that, from Saturday the 11th all the way through to Thursday the 24th of July, the outlook is pretty grim. The swell drops right off, mostly below 2 ft, with periods that are short or inconsistent. The wind is a problem too – strong offshore breezes early on that make it nearly impossible to paddle into anything, then cross-onshore winds that chop things up. The wave energy plummets, bottoming out at just 2 on the 13th and 0 the following afternoon. It’s a real blank run.
There is a flicker of hope on the very last day of the forecast period, Friday morning, July 24th. The swell bumps up to 5 ft out of the west, but here’s the catch – the period is a short, weak 6 seconds. This generates a moderate 206 combined energy, but the wind is a gentle cross-onshore at 9 mph, making it a bit lumpy. It’s a long way out, so don’t bank on it, but it’s the only pulse of real size we see in the whole 16 days.
For now, if you’re desperate for a paddle, try that Thursday morning. Otherwise, keep your board in the car and your eyes on the forecast. This patch looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer later in the period when the wind is honking.
Rusty.
