The Lowdown

Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the bones of this forecast for the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but there's a glimmer of something worth getting excited about if you're patient.

We start off with a bit of a flat, blown-out run. The first real chance of a wave isn't until Sunday the 23rd, and honestly, it's nothing to write home about. We're looking at a 3.9ft swell from the NNE, but it’s wrapping in a bit of a cross-off wind. It’s surfable, but it’s going to be ordinary. The combined energy is a weak 202, so there's not a lot of push behind it. We'll take what we can get, but don't go burning a sick day for it.

After that, the surf goes pretty quiet for a solid stretch. We're talking days of tiny, weak, and messy conditions through the 24th, 25th, 26th, and right on into the 29th. There are a few pulses of 3.3-3.9ft, but the period is short and the winds are all over the place with a lot of cross-onshore action. It's just not worth the paddle. You'd be fighting chop for nothing.

Now, as we roll into the final days of August and the first bit of September, we start to see some life. The morning of Monday the 31st brings a 4.9ft swell, but it’s from the N with an 8-second period. It’s clean, with light cross-off winds, but still a bit junky. The energy ticks up to 266, but it’s still not what I’d call great. There's a bit of a drop-off in the afternoon with a cross-shore wind picking up, so keep that morning session in mind.

Here’s where things get interesting. We have a stand-out window around the 1st and 3rd of September. The 1st kicks off with a 5.6ft swell from the N, and while the wind is a cross-off, it’s blowing 19-25 mph which is a bit strong. The energy jumps up to 435, so there's some real power in the water. But the stronger winds are going to make it lumpy.

The real gem is Wednesday the 2nd. We finally get the conditions to line up. The swell is a solid 4.6ft from the NNE, and the wind goes dead glassy in the afternoon. The energy is a moderate 270, and with that period of 8 seconds, it should have a bit of shape to it. This is the one to circle on the calendar. It’s going to be clean, and it might just be the best surf of the whole period.

Following that, Thursday the 3rd also looks promising. We have a slightly bigger 5.2ft swell from the NNE, with a good offshore SW wind. The energy is strong at 415. This will have more power and the offshore wind will keep it clean, but it will be heavier and more demanding than the glassy day before. This one will be for the more experienced surfers.

After that, we’re back into a slow slide with small swell and tricky winds for the rest of the period. It's not a classic summer forecast, but that Wednesday looks like the one to make the most of. It’s a fair way out there, so keep an eye on it, but conditions are looking good.

Short Range Forecast

Mostly dry. Very mild (max 17°C on Sun morning, min 13°C on Sat night). Wind will be generally light.

Days 5-7 Weather Summary
