Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cayton Bay Bunkers over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cooking for Cayton Bay Bunkers.
Right now, the surf is flat to tiny. We have some long gaps with nothing to get excited about. The first week is a write-off as far as decent waves go. Through Wednesday the 8th and into the weekend, we’re seeing barely a ripple: poor surf conditions with onshore and cross-onshore wind, tiny 0.3 to 0.5 foot swells, and no energy to speak of (combined energy 22 to 49). Thursday the 9th morning has a brief moment of glassy conditions with 0.5 ft from the N, but the swell is weak (24) and period is short at 7 seconds – not worth paddling out for.
Friday the 10th through the middle of the following week stays poor. Small swell, short period, and cross-onshore winds keep things messy. There is a rise in combined energy on Saturday the 12th with a 3 ft NE swell (67) but it’s choppy with moderate cross-onshore wind – still not surfable.
We finally see a pulse of moderate wave energy (159) on Monday the 13th as swell hits 4 ft from the NNE, but the fresh cross-onshore wind (30 km/h) makes it lumpy and unappealing. That pattern sticks: modest swell size, but wind keeps ruining the quality right through to Friday the 18th. Not a single stand-out session here.
The first real standout arrives on Sunday the 20th of July. Monday morning the 20th has a 6 ft NNE swell with light onshore wind but combined energy jumps to 335 – that’s moderate energy and the biggest push so far. It’s rated marginal though due to tide questions. Then Tuesday the 21st delivers the best on offer: a solid 12 ft swell from the N with a period of 9 seconds, and combined energy is very strong (over 2000). Wind is light cross-onshore, keeping things fairly clean. This is big – over 8 ft – and only for experienced surfers. The beach/sandbar setup may make the long-period groundswell (15s+) a bit tricky, but for reef or point lovers, that north swell is going to pump.
The final days, Wednesday the 22nd through Thursday the 23rd, have smaller but cleaner surf. Thursday the 23rd morning sees a light offshore wind (15 km/h from the WSW) with a 4 ft NNE swell (142 combined energy) – actually surfable and clean, but very ordinary. By the afternoon, glassy conditions with a 3 ft NNE swell (110). So, if the big Tuesday is too heavy, that Thursday is the best fallback for a gentle, clean session.
Water temperature is 58° with a +0.9° anomaly – that’s about average for the time of year.
The spot is fairly consistent but was disappointing early on – it tends not to stay poor forever, and the second week proves that. Keep an eye on that 21st of July for the experts.
Rusty.
