Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be honest right off the bat, we’re looking at a tough stretch for the next couple of weeks here. The file shows zero good surf for this entire 16-day window, so strap in.
Up first, the only game in town – Cayton Bay Bunkers. Water temp is hanging around 58°F which is pretty standard for this time of year. The outlook gets started but it’s a flat spell with a capital F. Monday the 6th through the weekend have us scraping the bottom of the barrel with tiny waves. Monday morning you’re looking at a meager 0.7ft from the north, and even with the wind sitting cross-offshore, there’s just not enough height to even paddle onto. The combined energy is a paltry 2 – that’s barely a ripple.
We’ll see a slight kick mid-month, from around the 13th of July. The swell nudges up to a bit over 4ft from the northeast, and the combined energy climbs into the low triple digits (112), so there’s some actual push there. But the problem is the wind – it’s onshore or cross-onshore all day, every day, with moderate breezes making it choppy. The period is short too, around 7 seconds, so the waves will be weak and crumbly. Even with that slightly bigger water, the quality just isn’t there for a decent paddle.
After the 14th, it’s back downhill fast. By the 18th we’re down to 0.7ft again, and the whole second week looks like a write-off. To be fair, this break is fairly consistent overall, so a run like this with zero recommendations isn’t the norm. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, you’re better off waiting for the next weather system to breathe some life into things. For now, enjoy the beach, but don’t bother with the wetsuit.
Rusty.
