Table - best surf conditions forecast for Scarborough South Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. I’m looking at the charts for the next couple of weeks, and honestly, it’s a pretty bleak stretch for Scarborough South Bay. We’ve got a run of flat, wind-affected conditions that just won’t give in. The overall pattern is dominated by persistent wind from the north and northeast, which is the worst direction for this break, leaving the ocean all chopped up and messy. There’s no real punch or quality on the horizon.
Starting from this Sunday the 12th, and running all the way through to Monday the 27th of July, there’s not a single session that gets a recommendation. That’s a solid two-week gap of nothing I’d paddle out for. The swell is tiny, with heights staying under 5 ft, and that’s only for a brief moment. The period is short and weak – mostly 5 to 8 seconds – meaning no power or shape.
The water temperature on Sunday the 12th is 61°, with an anomaly of 4° warmer than average, which is notably toasty for the time of year, but you’ll be sitting there bobbing around on poor surf.
On Saturday the 18th, the combined swell energy hits 261 (moderate wave energy) as a 5 ft north-northeast swell shows up, but it’s being hammered by a strong 25 mph cross-shore wind from the northwest. This makes for messy cross-chop, and with the set-up being a beach and point, it looks far more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Later, around the 21st and 22nd, we do get some clean sessions with a cross-offshore wind from the west-northwest. The swell is tiny though – only 3 ft and 3 ft – and with a period of just 6 to 7 seconds, even though the conditions are clean, the waves are just too weak to do much with. The combined swell energy drops to as low as 55 and 76 (weak wave energy).
By the final weekend on the 25th, we finally see some offshore winds from the southwest, but the swell is a pathetic 1 ft. It’s clean, but you’d be lucky to catch a ripple.
Look, Scarborough South Bay is fairly consistent and fairly exposed, but this forecast is a total write-off. We need a proper swell from a better direction. For now, save yourself the time and wait for the next window.
Rusty.
