Right then, let's have a look at what's on the cards for Scarborough South Bay. I gotta be straight with you, folks – it's a pretty bleak stretch ahead. We're looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple for the better part of two weeks. It’s one of those periods where you might as well get the fishing rod out or do some maintenance on your board.
We kick off on Friday the 3rd. There's a small 3ft swell from the north, period of 8 seconds, with a moderate westerly offshore blowing at 16 mph. The water's sitting at 58°, which is about a degree warmer than normal for this time of year – not a huge deal, but nice. The wave energy is moderate (125). It's surfable, but it's very ordinary. Honestly, it's the only thing that even gets a nod in the whole outlook, and it's barely a whisper.
From there, things fall off a cliff. Saturday the 4th through to Friday the 17th of July is pretty much a write-off. We get tiny bits of chop, some cross-off winds, and a whole lot of zeros. A few days have a little bump, like the 2ft on Monday afternoon or a 3ft on Thursday the 9th, but the wind is either onshore or cross-onshore, making it messy. It's just not worth paddling out for.
After that long gap, things look to pick up a touch on Saturday the 18th of July. The morning shows a 5ft north-northeast swell, period of just 6 seconds, so it's pretty weak and disorganised. The wave energy is moderate (119). The wind is glassy though – dead calm – which is a big positive and will keep the surface clean. It's still not a standout swell by any stretch, but after two weeks of nothing, that clean, glassy morning will be the best you'll find.
So there you have it. A long, quiet run with just one tiny glimmer at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes that's just how it goes.
Rusty.
