Table - best surf conditions forecast for Scarborough South Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for Scarborough South Bay is a tough one. We’ve got a long, bleak stretch ahead before anything even slightly surfable shows up. The bay is fairly exposed to the north, but the wind just refuses to cooperate for the most part, and when the swell does show a pulse, the conditions turn it to rubbish.
Right now and for the next twelve days, it’s a write-off. From Thursday the 9th right through to Monday the 20th, every session is marked by poor surf. The wind is stuck onshore or cross-shore from the east and north, and the swell is tiny and weak. There’s a small pulse of energy on the 16th and 17th, with combined swell energy hitting 361 on the Thursday afternoon, but that’s accompanied by moderate cross-shore wind and a nasty chop. The waves might push 5ft to 6ft, but it’s going to be a mess – honestly, with that setup, this stretch looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The only real glimmer in this whole 16-day window comes on Tuesday the 21st. That morning, the wind drops to glassy – dead calm. The swell is a modest 3ft from the north with a 7-second period, and the combined energy is a moderate 167. It’s not big, and the period is short, but with glassy conditions, it’ll be clean. This is the standout, but it’s a small one. Scarborough South Bay is a fairly consistent spot, so this blank run is a bit of a surprise, but forecasts can change.
Following that, Wednesday the 22nd morning offers a little hope too. The swell holds around 4ft from the north, with a moderate offshore wind from the west keeping things clean. It’s still ordinary surf, but it’s rideable. The water temperature on the 9th is 59° – about average for the time of year, just slightly on the warm side.
In short, the only window worth paddling out for is the morning of Tuesday the 21st, when that glassy calm gives you a clean little wave. After that, it fades back into small, windy nothing. This is a long gap of poor options, so keep an eye on the sky – things could shift.
Rusty.
