Alright, Rusty here with the imperial read. Let’s keep it real.
Scarborough South Bay is staring down a long, flat spell for the full 16 days. The guidance reckons it’s a decent 3 out of 5 spot, and it breaks fairly consistently, but the finder data says "poor surf conditions" for every single session. There’s nothing to get your fins wet.
Water temp is about 57°F right now, which is just a touch above normal.
Starting Saturday, July 4th, we’ve got a 1ft swell from the NNE with a 6-second period. That’s tiny. The wind is a fresh 22 mph cross-off from the west, which is way too much for that little bump. Energy is weak, just 13 (units). Sunday through Tuesday (July 5th-7th) are more of the same: swells from 0.3ft to 1.0ft, periods from 4 to 10 seconds, with cross-off winds from the WNW. Clean, but flat.
Wednesday and Thursday (July 8th-9th) see the swell hold at 2ft from the north, with periods of 7-9 seconds. Winds shift to light cross and cross-on from the east/southeast. Wednesday morning is clean with a light 3 mph cross from the north, but it’s still just ripples.
Into the second week, from July 10th through the 19th, the biggest wave is a 3ft from the east on Sunday the 19th afternoon, but with a 4-second period, that’s just messy windswell. We do get a glassy morning on July 19th with a 3 mph northerly breeze, but the swell is only 1ft – a pretty picture with no ride.
There are a few offshore or glassy slots, like July 15th afternoon with a 0.7ft offshore from the SW, but the energy is at 1 (units) – it’s flat.
The combined swell energy never gets out of the weak zone (always under 100). Honestly, for a paddle surfer, this is a bust. The only positive might be for kite surfers on July 4th or 17th when those 22 mph cross-off winds blow. But for waves? None to speak of.
No standouts. Nothing to recommend. The ocean is taking a nap.
