Table - best surf conditions forecast for Scarborough South Bay over the next 16 days.
Right then, let's have a look at what's on offer for Scarborough South Bay. To be honest, mate, it's a pretty grim run for the next 16 days. We're looking at a long stretch of mostly poor surf, with a lot of those days being a total write-off.
The first real chance of anything surfable doesn't come until Sunday the 19th of July, and even then, it's a bit of a mess. The week leading up to that is all about small, weak waves and that persistent cross-onshore wind that'll have the surface all chopped up. The combined energy is just pitiful, with values barely reaching 100 (88) on the 12th, and it's all short-period windswell.
That Sunday the 19th, we start to see a bit more size. The swell pushes up to 6ft from the NNE, but the energy is still moderate at 366. The problem is the wind – it's a cross-shore breeze, not ideal, and the conditions are described as having a slight cross-chop. It's a marginal day at best. The Monday the 20th sees a big jump in size, with 10ft waves from the NNE, and the combined energy kicks right up to a strong 1162. That's a lot of water moving, but the wind is a fresh cross to cross-onshore, making it lumpy and messy. That's strictly for the experienced crew, and even then, it's not going to be pretty.
The best chance we get in the whole window is early on Wednesday the 22nd of July. The wind finally swings offshore from the SSW, and it's light, just 3 mph. The swell drops to a more manageable 3ft from the NNE, with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of 123. The conditions are described as "clean". That's the one to keep an eye on, but it's a very short-lived window. The afternoon turns back to a choppy cross-onshore.
After that, it's back to tiny, weak waves and a lot of offshores, but with no swell to speak of. The energy levels drop right off, with values like 13 and 7, and even 1. It's a proper blank run for the last few days of the outlook.
So, there's not much to get excited about. The standout is the Wednesday morning session on the 22nd, but it's a one-off. The rest is a long wait for a bit of clean, moderate swell that's going to be rare. For a beach and point setup, this kind of blank run is more normal for the area when the swell windows don't line up with the wind.
