The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cooking for this spot over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it’s a bit of a slow start. For the first couple of days, the swell is tiny and the wind is messy, so you can leave the board in the car. We’re looking at a dry spell from Tuesday the 18th all the way through to late Thursday the 20th, with nothing worth paddling out for.
The first real chance to get wet comes on Friday the 21st. Black Middens starts to show some life. The swell builds to 6 ft by the afternoon, coming from the NNE. The wind goes offshore from the NNE, which is solid. That’s the standout period in this whole outlook, and Friday afternoon is the pick. The combined swell energy is up at 449 (moderate wave energy), so there's some push behind it. The period is short at 8 seconds, so it’s not the most drawn-out groundswell, but with that offshore wind, it should be clean and fun for an intermediate.
Saturday the 22nd holds some size, with 6 ft in the morning and 5 ft in the afternoon, but the wind swings cross-offshore. It’s still rideable, but not as clean as Friday. Sunday the 23rd drops a bit to 4 ft, and conditions are clean with light cross-offshore winds. Monday the 24th starts with a glassy morning and a small 3 ft wave, but it’s not enough to get excited about.
After that, it fades away again. From Tuesday the 25th onwards, the swell drops off to knee-high or smaller, and the wind turns onshore or cross-onshore for days on end. The last week of August and into the start of September is flat and sloppy. The spot is sheltered and inconsistent, so a long blank run like this is not that unusual here.
If you're planning on a paddle, lock in Friday the 21st afternoon. That's your window. The rest of the time, you might as well save the wax.
