Table - best surf conditions forecast for Caves (Sandsend) over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Caves (Sandsend). It’s a point break, intermediate level, inconsistent, and it’s exposed to the north swell. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual there.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the first week is a tough one. We’re looking at a solid run of small, choppy, cross-shore junk from Monday the 13th through to Saturday the 18th. Swell is tiny, mostly under 3 ft, and the wind is just *wrong* – cross or cross-onshore. The combined energy is weak, barely cracking 100 (139 at its best on Monday arvo). It’s just not worth paddling out for. Expect a good 6-day gap of no real surf.
Then, out of nowhere, Sunday the 19th morning looks like the one bright spot in this whole outlook. The swell jumps up to 8 ft from the NNE, with a period of 9 seconds and a combined energy of 848 (moderate). That’s a decent push of energy. The wind is light offshore from the NW, so it’ll be clean. For an inconsistent spot like Caves, this is a proper standout. That’s your best bet, but it’s a Sunday morning session, so expect some crowds. The afternoon goes a bit average with a cross-onshore breeze.
Monday the 20th morning has a bit of leftover swell at 5 ft, and it’s glassy – that’s a good window for a cleaner, smaller wave. But the energy drops off quick (257). After that, it’s another long stretch of flat, tiny, or onshore junk all the way through to the end of the month. The 24th shows a small bump from the SE at 5 ft, but it’s onshore, so it’s a write-off.
So, for the whole 16 days? The only real standout is Sunday the 19th morning. The rest is a long wait. For a spot that’s already inconsistent, this kind of blank run is pretty normal. Keep your eyes on that Sunday window, and hope the forecast holds.
Rusty.
