Alright, let me have a look at what we've got coming up. It's a bit of a quiet spell ahead for the most part, but there are a few moments where it might just be worth paddling out.
The whole 16-day window is pretty lean, to be honest. We're looking at a long stretch of nothing much to get excited about, with a big gap of days where the surf is just too small or messy to bother. The first proper nod of any energy doesn't show up until Monday the 20th of July.
Right now, from Monday the 6th through to early July, it's all tiny dribble. We're talking waves barely 0.3 ft to 1.0 ft, and the combined swell energy is just pathetic (1 to 25). Not worth wetting your wetsuit for.
That flat spell hangs around for over a week. There's a little bump on Wednesday the 8th with a 2 ft wave, but it's blown out by an onshore breeze, so no good there. Thursday the 9th has a moment of glassy conditions in the morning, but again, it's only 1 ft of weak energy (18) – it's a lake out there.
We get a bit more wind through the middle of the month, with some cross-shore and cross-offshore breezes, but the swell stays small. The combined energy finally starts to climb a little on Monday the 13th, hitting 66 to 91, with waves around 3 ft to 3 ft from the NE. But it's lumpy and cross-choppy with a fresh breeze, so it won't be pretty.
The standout, and really the only one worth talking about, rolls in on Monday the 20th of July. The swell finally shows some pulse, pushing up to 4 ft from the north. The combined energy hits 219, which is a proper moderate push of power. The wind is coming from the NW, so it's a clean, cross-offshore breeze at Caves (Sandsend). That's a good setup for that point break, keeping the faces clean and offering some nice lines. The period is 8 seconds, so it's a short-period wind swell, not a groundswell, but with that offshore wind and a bit of size, it'll be the best wave we've seen in weeks. It'll be punchy and fun for an intermediate surfer.
After that, Tuesday the 21st morning still has some energy (3 ft, 88 energy) and clean cross-off winds, but it's smaller. The rest of the window just fades back into the small stuff.
So, if you're keen, pencil in Monday the 20th. That's your one true standout. The rest of the fortnight is mostly a write-off.
Rusty.
