Table - best surf conditions forecast for Caves (Sandsend) over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Look, I've got to be straight with you – this forecast for Caves (Sandsend) is a real tough one. We're looking at a 16-day window that kicks off Saturday, July 11th, and for the first five days, the ocean is just not cooperating. It's a rough start, with a real flat and choppy stretch that's not worth paddling out for.
The first hint of anything actually surfable shows up on Thursday, July 16th. On the Thursday morning, we get a bit of a pulse from the east around 4ft, with a period of 6 seconds. The wind is offshore and light, so the surface will be clean. The energy is weak (104), but it's a start. Then on Tuesday, July 21st, the conditions finally line up for a few waves. The morning has offshore winds from the west-northwest at 16 mph, with a 4ft swell from the north (6-second period). The energy is moderate (128). The afternoon is similar, with a 4ft swell from the north (7-second period) and offshore winds from the west at 12 mph. The energy is again moderate (121). Both sessions are clean, but the waves are small and ordinary.
If I had to pick the best of a pretty average bunch, it's those Tuesday, July 21st sessions. The offshore wind will make it clean, and while the swell is small, it's the most consistent offer we get. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing out of the ordinary.
Honestly, for the rest of the window, it's a whole lot of nothing. The swell is tiny, the wind is messy, or both. There's a bit of a bump on July 18th with a 5ft swell from the north, but it's paired with a stiff cross-offshore wind that messes it up. It's a stretch of flatness that's a bit of a bummer for the area. I wouldn't be holding my breath for this one.
Stay safe out there, and maybe pick another day.
