Table - best surf conditions forecast for Caves (Sandsend) over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a pretty flat and quiet outlook for a while. The first real chance of anything surfable comes around Thursday the 16th of July, and even then, it's a bit of a wait. We've got a gap of about 8 days from the start of the forecast period with no real action.
The only spot to keep an eye on is Caves (Sandsend). It's an inconsistent intermediate point break, so it takes a specific swell to get it going. The water temp is sitting at about 58.5°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year.
The standout in the window, as promising as it gets, is Thursday the 16th of July. The morning has a clean 4.3ft swell from the NNE, with a moderate cross-offshore breeze, so it should be fairly tidy. The energy picks up to a moderate 106. The afternoon gets a bit more push, with the swell bumping up to 5.6ft from the NNE, and the energy jumps to 286. That's a bit more size, but it's still a peaky, short-period swell (7 seconds), so it'll be a bit of a handful at a point break. The wind stays clean cross-off, which is a big positive. Probably the best session on offer, but it's still only marginal.
Friday the 17th of July is also worth a look. The swell drops back to 3.9ft from the NNE, but the energy is still solid at 262. Clean conditions again with a cross-offshore breeze, so it'll be ridable, if not epic.
After that, the run into the weekend of the 18th and 19th sees the swell drop right off, with only small, clean waves. By the 21st of July, we get some glassy, offshore conditions with a knee-high 2.6ft to 3.6ft swell, but it's not going to get the heart racing.
The last real mention is Wednesday the 22nd of July, with a clean 3.3ft swell from the NNE, but it's not a standout.
So, to sum it up, the best of a very average run is the afternoon of Thursday the 16th of July. The conditions will be clean, and the swell is the biggest of the run, but it's a short-period affair that might not have the best shape. For a regular surfer, it's a wait-and-see job. For beginners, the 5.6ft might be a bit much, and the inconsistent nature of the break means it's only for the patient.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 23°C on Thu afternoon, min 16°C on Fri night). Wind will be generally light. | Days 5-7 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Very mild (max 16°C on Sat afternoon, min 12°C on Sun night). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
