Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for the next 16 days is a tough one. We’ve got a prolonged flat spell on our hands, so if you’re after a proper surf, you’re going to need patience.
The first recommendation we see is at Portslade on Thursday, August 6th. That morning, we’re looking at a tiny 2ft swell from the WSW with a short 6-second period and a combined swell energy of just 34 (weak). The wind is a clean cross-off from the W, so it’ll look pretty, but honestly, there’s no power behind it. The wave comment says it all: poor surf conditions. The afternoon gets worse – a bumpy 4ft with a cross-on breeze and even weaker 5-second period.
After that, we hit a major gap. From Friday, August 7th, all the way through to Saturday, August 15th, there are zero recommendations. That’s over a week of nothing worth paddling out for. The swell drops to nearly nothing – we’re talking 0.3ft to 1ft at best, with wind states that are mostly onshore, glassy, or cross-shore, and the energy numbers are in the single digits. It’s a dead period.
The only glimmer of hope comes on Saturday, August 15th, in the afternoon. Portslade sees a 4ft swell from the WSW, a 5-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 80 (still weak, but the highest we’ve seen). The problem? The wind is a fresh 19 mph cross-on from the WSW, making it lumpy and messy. It’s a poor surf setup, and you’d have to be desperate to get out there.
The following week, from Sunday, August 16th, onwards, the swell stays small and weak, with onshore winds dominating. Most days show energy values under 80, and the wave comment consistently reads “poor surf conditions.”
So, what’s the best on offer? Honestly, there isn’t a true standout. If you had to pick *something*, the Saturday morning of August 15th might be the least offensive – a clean 2ft with cross-off wind, but it’s still tiny. This is a classic case of a blank run for the area. It tends not to stay this poor for long, but right now, the forecasts are what they are.
