Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let me level with you. Looking at the forecast for Joss Bay over the next couple of weeks, it’s a pretty bleak picture for us surfers. The truth is, there’s very little wave energy on the cards, and what does show up is plagued by messy winds. It’s one of those periods where you might be better off keeping the board in the car and enjoying a cold one on the beach instead.
To give you the hard facts, we kick off Sunday the 5th of July with tiny, weak 0.3ft swell from the north and a measly combined energy of just 1, with a cross-off wind that’s not doing it any favours. That pretty much sets the tone. Through Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th, the swell is either non-existent or barely a ripple. The energy doesn’t crack double digits until Friday the 10th, when we see a bit of a bump – 3ft to 3ft from the east-northeast. But here’s the kicker: that comes with a fresh to strong onshore wind, making it a messy, lumpy affair. Even when the swell hits about 4ft on the morning of Sunday the 12th, the wind is howling cross-onshore at 22 mph, creating awful conditions.
That bigger pulse around the 12th, with combined energy hitting 85, is the most significant push of the whole period, but it’s a total write-off for a clean ride. Through the second week, from the 14th onwards, we’re back to small, weak swell and persistent cross-onshore winds. The south-easterly and easterly winds are just never giving us a clean window. There’s a brief moment on the morning of Saturday the 19th with a cross-off wind from the northwest, but the swell is only 2ft.
There’s really nothing to get excited about. It’s a two-week-long gap with no surf worth paddling out for. The setup here, with those strong onshore winds and a beach break, would look far more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing during most of this period. Hang in there, forecasts can change, but for now, it’s a write-off.
Rusty.
