Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get straight into the local outlook for the next couple of weeks.
Well, I'll be honest with you, it's a pretty bleak picture for Scratby for the foreseeable future. We're looking at a long dry spell. The forecast is showing poor surf conditions right through the entire 16-day period. That means no real swell of any consequence and a lot of onshore or cross-shore wind that's going to mess things up.
Scratby (Norfolk) is an inconsistent spot at the best of times, and this run is looking like one of those times. The water is currently much warmer than normal for the time of year, coming in at 64°F, which is a big anomaly of 5°F above average. That's a rarity in itself, but it doesn't make the waves any better.
The first notable day is Saturday 5th July. We've got a tiny 1ft swell from the NNW, with a short, weak 6-second period. The wave energy is basically non-existent. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the NNW, which is at least clean, but there's nothing to ride.
After that, it's flat or near-flat with poor wind conditions. We get a slight bump on Thursday 10th July with a 2ft easterly windswell, but it's onshore and messy. The period is a pathetic 4 seconds. There is simply nothing for a surfer to work with.
The 15th of July sees a slight increase to a 3ft easterly swell, but the period is still a weak 5 seconds and the wind is onshore from the east. The combined energy is still very weak. It’s still classified as poor surf. Honestly, if you see any white water, it's more likely to be good for a kite than a paddleboard.
The trend continues right through to the 19th of July, with waves dropping back to just 0.7ft. A complete washout.
So here’s the long and short of it: there are no standouts, no windows, no hidden gems. The first recommendation is technically the 4th of July, but it's zero score. The next 15 days are the same story. This is one of those blank runs that’s more normal for the area, though it doesn't usually stay this poor forever. Forecasts can change, but right now, I'd be taking the boards off the roof.
Rusty.
