The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's in store for Scratby over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we are in for a long, quiet spell. Honestly, looking at the whole run, it's pretty bleak for us. There's nothing worth paddling out for until we get well into the second week. We've got a stretch where the waves are tiny, the wind is all wrong, and the energy is just pathetic. You're looking at days of barely ankle-snappers with onshore or cross-off breezes mucking things up.
There is a flicker of hope, but it's a long way off. The standout, and I mean the *only* standout, is the morning of Friday the 4th of September. Around that dawn, the stars might finally align. We’re looking at a solid north swell pushing in at about 8ft with a period of 9 seconds. The combined swell energy is pumping hard at 848 (moderate wave energy), so there will be some push. The real kicker? The wind is forecast to be dead calm, absolutely glassy. That means Scratby could turn on and be super clean for a few hours. But be warned, a wave that size will be too much for beginners, and even for the rest of us, that long period (9 seconds) on a beach break can make things a little fat and tricky. If you’re an expert, that’s your window.
That afternoon, the wind swings onshore and the quality goes out the window. After that, it drops back down to smaller, messier conditions for the rest of the run.
The water is currently about 68°, which is a good 5° warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won't need a thick suit.
So, to sum it up: bunk off work on the morning of Friday the 4th of September if you can. That is the only call of the whole forecast. Otherwise, save your energy and wait for the next system to roll in.
