Table - best surf conditions forecast for Scratby over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
Honestly, for the next couple of weeks, Scratby is looking pretty flat and ordinary. There’s no real swell to get excited about for a long stretch, and the wind is mostly going to mess up what little bump there is. The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is about 5° warmer than usual for this time of year, so you’ll be comfortable in a shorty, but the waves just aren't cooperating.
From now through to Saturday the 18th of July, it’s going to be a real struggle. We’re looking at tiny, weak swells mostly from the north with periods all over the place and very low energy. On the 12th, we see a bit more energy (108 on Sunday morning) with a 4ft swell, but it’s cross-onshore at 19 mph from the northeast, making it lumpy and unappealing. That same pattern holds for Monday the 13th, with a 4ft north-northeast swell and moderate cross-onshore wind. Not worth paddling out for.
The whole first week is just a write-off. It’s not until the morning of Saturday the 18th that we finally get a glimmer. The 18th brings a 5ft north swell, but the energy is still only moderate at 156, and it’s just labeled as “surfable but very ordinary.” It’s out of the north, which isn't the optimum direction, so don’t expect much shape. By the afternoon, it pushes up to 5ft, but it’s cross-shore and a bit choppy, so still nothing special.
Now, the real standout in this whole 16-day window lands on the morning of Sunday the 19th of July. That’s the one to circle. We’ve got a 5ft swell from the northwest (a much better direction for Scratby), a period of 10 seconds, and solid wave energy (417). But the best part? The wind is a light 9 mph from the west-northwest – that’s a clean cross-offshore breeze. The guidance says “expect good surf conditions,” and for this stretch, that is your best bet. It’s not huge, not closing out, just clean, lined-up waves. Crowds are possible at Scratby, so get there early. This is your session.
The rest of that day turns to junk as the wind swings onshore by afternoon. After the 19th, from Monday the 20th onward, it drops back down into the doldrums with tiny swells and messy wind. By the 21st and 22nd, we’re back to 1ft to 2ft and very weak energy.
So, bottom line: stay patient. The surf is pretty much a no-go until the morning of the 19th. That one window on Sunday the 19th is the only real highlight – clean with a decent northwest swell. Don’t hold your breath for the rest.
Rusty.
