Alright folks, it’s Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it for Scratby.
Honestly, looking at the whole 16-day window, I gotta be straight with you – there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The entire run is a total write-off for decent surf. The first real bit of swell doesn’t even show up for a week, and even when it does, the conditions are just plain ugly. We’ve got nearly a week of flat, poor surf to start, then a few days of tiny windswell with bad, choppy winds. There’s a bump in size around the 12th of July, but the wind is all wrong, and it’s a lumpy, cross-shore mess. Then it just fades out again into the second week. It’s a long, blank run.
The only spot we’ve got on the radar is Scratby itself. It’s a beginner break, but it’s inconsistent, and to be honest, you’d be wasting your time. The water is a weird 64°F right now, which is a massive 5°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s very unusual.
The best we can see, and it’s not saying much, is a slight pulse on the 12th of July. Early Sunday morning, there’s a 5ft swell from the NE, but it’s a short, weak period of 6 seconds, and it’s being hammered by a fresh 19 mph NNE wind. The combined energy is only moderate (138), and it’s described as “fresh cross-onshore and lumpy.” The poor surf is written all over it. The next day, the 13th of July, is a bit bigger at 5ft from the NNE, but again, the wind is a fresh 19 mph cross-shore, making it lumpy and cross-chop (energy 187). It’s a messy, ugly wave for experts only, and even then, the quality is poor.
Forget about it. This setup is so blown out and choppy, it honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than a proper paddle session. There’s nothing here for us.
Stay tuned, forecasts can change, but for now, I wouldn’t bother waxing the board.
Rusty.
