Table - best surf conditions forecast for Happisburgh over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what the next couple of weeks has in store for us.
First up, I've got to be straight with you – the next week and a half is looking pretty grim. We're talking about a stretch of poor surf conditions that runs from now all the way through to the morning of Thursday, July 23rd. There's just no real swell energy or decent wind to get excited about. The water, when I look at the first few days over at Happisburgh, is sitting at 65°F, which is a whopping 5°F warmer than usual for the time of year. That's a real anomaly, and it makes the water feel like a warm bath, but it's not enough to save the surf.
Now, hold on to your boards, because things finally start to look up on Thursday, July 24th. That Friday morning is the first real standout of the whole outlook. We've got a clean 5ft swell rolling in from the north, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind is light and offshore from the west, so the lineup at Happisburgh should be properly clean. The combined swell energy is a solid 405 (moderate energy), which gives the waves a bit of punch. It's not a massive day, but it's the best we've seen in a long time, and it's perfectly sized for a beginner.
Then, on Saturday, July 25th, the morning session is worth an early alarm. We've got a moderate offshore breeze from the west-northwest and a solid 5ft groundswell from the north, with a longer period of 10 seconds. That longer period means more shape and energy in the waves. The combined energy is 356 (moderate), and the clean offshore conditions will make for some really fun, peeling lines. This is a good one for the more experienced crew, as that size and period will be a step up in power.
The afternoon of the 25th sees the swell jump up to 5ft and the energy spike to 613 (strong), but the wind swings straight onshore from the north, turning it into a messy, lumpy mess. That's for the kites, not the paddlers.
So, to wrap it up: the first week is a total write-off. The best on offer is the morning of Thursday, July 24th for a clean beginner-friendly wave, and the morning of Saturday, July 25th for a more powerful, lined-up session for the experienced surfers. Don't sleep on that Saturday morning if you can get out there.
Rusty.
