Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right then, let's get stuck into the outlook for your local stretch. I'm looking at Happisburgh, and I've got to be straight with you – it's a bit of a quiet run ahead.
The water temperature here is currently sitting at 63°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won't need the thickest wetsuit, but that's about the only good news.
We're kicking off the forecast period on Friday, 3rd July, but don't get your hopes up. The swell is tiny, barely an ankle-snapper at 2ft from the north. The energy is weak (29), and with a short period of 8 seconds, it's not going to produce anything worth paddling for. The wind is cross-off, but it's not enough to save this.
Saturday, 4th July, morning brings a clean offshore wind from the WNW at 16 mph, which is nice to see, but the swell has actually dropped back to 2ft. It's just not got the push. The afternoon sees the same small waves. It's frustrating because the conditions *look* good, but the ocean just isn't delivering.
We then hit a bit of a flat spell. Sunday, 5th July, through to Wednesday, 8th July, sees a mix of dead flat conditions and very small, weak windswell that's barely a ripple. The energy readings are mostly in the single digits or low double digits – it's a total washout. There's a brief pulse on Tuesday, 7th July, with 3ft from the NNW, but the period is a paltry 6 seconds, so it's just bumpy and weak (47).
The pattern continues. Thursday, 9th July, offers the biggest wave height of the entire 16-day window, with 3ft from the NNE on the afternoon. The energy finally climbs to a moderate 140, but it's a short-period, onshore swell. The wind is from the east, which is directly onshore, so it will be messy and blown out. Not one to get excited about.
From there, it's a long, drawn-out period of small, choppy, onshore dribble. The wind persistently comes from the ENE or NNE, making everything choppy and crumbly. Friday, 10th July, through to Friday, 17th July, is just one poor surf condition after another. Swell heights hover around 1.0ft to 2ft, with very weak energy, and a period that rarely breaks 6 seconds.
There is a tiny glimmer on Tuesday, 14th July, morning with a 3ft from the SSE, but it's a freak reading with a 5-second period and a cross-onshore wind – it'll be a complete mess.
Honestly, for this entire 16-day run, there is nothing that qualifies as a standout. It's a prolonged gap with no real surf on offer. The consistent theme is "poor surf conditions" across the board. If you're desperate, the cleanest windows will be on the mornings with offshore winds, like Saturday the 4th and Monday the 6th, but the waves are so small you'll be doing more standing than surfing.
Given the persistent small, onshore swell and choppy conditions at a beach break, this setup honestly looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer for the majority of the forecast.
Keep your eye on the forecasts, things can change. But for now, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
