Table - best surf conditions forecast for Staithes over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a grim start. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with nothing worth paddling out for. The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Monday, the 20th of July, so you’ve got a solid week of flat or junk conditions to get through. The waiting game is on.
The standout of the whole run is Monday morning, the 20th of July at Staithes. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year at 59°, which is a nice bonus. The swell finally shows up, with a solid 8ft of groundswell from the north, a period of 9 seconds, and the combined wave energy is pumping at a strong 1935. The wind is glassy, dead calm. That’s the kind of clean, powerful surf you dream about. But listen, at 8ft, this is only for the experienced crew. The break is a reef, and it’s inconsistent, so you’ll be waiting for the sets, but when they come, they’ll be worth it. Expect crowds.
The afternoon of the 20th drops off a cliff with a cross-onshore wind and bumpy surf, so the window is tight.
After that, the 21st of July has a little pulse. Tuesday morning is a write-off with cross-onshore wind, but Tuesday afternoon cleans right up. You’ll get 4ft from the north-northeast with a period of 9 seconds and a glassy surface. The combined energy is moderate at 269. It won’t be the monster of the morning before, but it’ll be a fun, clean wave for a go.
Beyond that, the swell fades away fast and we’re back to tiny, weak surf for the rest of the week. The 25th of July has a tiny 0.3ft of long-period swell, but it’s a whisper, not a wave.
So, if you’re keen, set your alarm for the 20th of July. That’s the one.
Rusty.
