Table - best surf conditions forecast for Arrieta over the next 16 days.
Alright, mate, Rusty here. Let’s be straight – Arrieta’s been a bit of a desert for the first week and a half. This is a tricky reef, advanced only, and it’s inconsistent at the best of times. The first 8 days? Nothing. Zilch. From July 11 through July 18, every session is rated poor – small swell, cross winds, messy conditions. You’d be wasting your time. The water temp on the 11th was 72°, pretty much spot on for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Then things start to flicker. On July 19 (Sunday) we get a pulse of 10 ft swell from the NNE, period 9 seconds, with a clean offshore wind from the north. The combined energy jumps to 1229 – that’s strong, but the forecast calls it marginal, maybe due to tide or something. Honestly, it’s borderline. The real standout comes the next morning, July 20 (Monday). Same 10 ft height, same NNE direction, 9-second period, but the energy is even higher at 2608, and the wind stays cross-off from the north, keeping the surface clean. That’s proper size – only for the experienced crew. The swell direction is a bit off the optimum N, but close enough to work on this sheltered reef. The period is moderate, so it’ll have some punch but with longer lulls. If you’re an expert, that Monday morning session is your best bet in the whole 16-day window.
After that, it drops back. The 21st and 22nd are poor again – lumpy cross-chop, dropping swell. Then on July 23 (Thursday morning) we get a cleaner 6 ft from the north, cross-off wind, moderate energy (454), but still only rated marginal. Worth a look if you’re desperate, but it’s not the same caliber as the 20th. The rest of the run fades into strong winds and messy seas. So, bottom line: one good day for the experts on July 20, and maybe a scrap on the 23rd. Otherwise, keep your board waxed and wait.
Rusty.
