Table - best surf conditions forecast for Arrieta over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Arrieta over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the first week and a half is a bit of a write-off. The surf’s small, the wind is mostly cross or cross-off, and the conditions are just poor. You’ll be staring at a flat, messy ocean. There’s a long gap from now until around the 16th of July where the energy is weak (combined energy of all swells directed here is only 312 on the 12th, dropping to 68 on the 15th). The swell is short-period, choppy, and totally unappealing. Honestly, it’s a tough stretch for a paddle.
The water temperature is sitting at 73°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t freeze while you’re waiting for something to happen.
The real story unfolds later. From Thursday the 16th of July, the energy starts to build. You’ll see the swell picking up, but the wind is still a problem – fresh cross-shore breezes keep the surface lumpy. The waves get bigger, around 6 ft to 8 ft, but the quality is poor. That’s the trade-off.
Then, Sunday the 19th of July is the standout. The swell is hitting 8 ft in the morning and 8 ft in the afternoon from the NNE, with a period of 9 seconds. The wind finally goes cross-off, grooming the wave faces clean. The combined energy is pumping hard (912 in the afternoon). This is a proper groundswell, but at a beach break, that long period can make it a bit too straight. Still, for a confident surfer, this is the best on offer. For beginners, that 8 ft is too big.
Early on the 20th, the swell stays solid at 8 ft, but the wind swings back to a messy cross-shore, so the window is tight. The days that follow remain pretty big (7 ft to 8 ft) with moderate to strong cross-shore winds, so it’s big, lumpy, and challenging. Not ideal for a relaxed session.
The last few days, from the 25th to the 27th, the swell drops back under 7 ft, and the wind finally eases, giving us cleaner but smaller waves. It’s a more manageable size for everyone, but the energy is fading.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a bust. The clear winner is the morning of the 19th and the afternoon of the 19th of July, when the swell is biggest and the wind is clean. Be ready for a solid, powerful wave. That’s your best bet.
Rusty.
