The Lowdown
Right on, let's have a look at what Olifants Bos has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Alright, so we've got one spot on the menu and it's a reef and point set-up that likes a solid WSW swell. The forecast is a bit of a mixed bag, but there are definitely some windows to get excited about.
We kick off on Monday the 24th with a decent start. Morning sees a clean 6ft swell rolling in from the WSW with an 11-second period. The wind is offshore and that combined energy is sitting at 950 (moderate), so the waves will have some push. It's a solid, fun size for an intermediate. The afternoon drops a bit to 4ft, but the energy actually bumps up to 1090 (moderate) and it's still clean with offshore winds. Monday is your early-week go-to.
Tuesday the 25th gets chunky. Morning brings a 8ft SW swell with a 14-second period – that's a long-period groundswell packing serious energy (2549). But the wind is a strong offshore breeze at 28 mph, making it clean but brutally hard to paddle into. This is expert-only territory, and honestly, the afternoon gets even windier. It's on the beefy side of things.
Wednesday the 26th is a bit of a reset. The morning has a 5ft swell with cross-offshore winds, so it's clean, but the energy is moderate (1045). The afternoon is the better call: 4ft, offshore wind, and the same moderate energy. It's a nice, user-friendly size for a cruisey session.
Thursday the 27th and Friday the 28th are a tale of two days. Thursday looks choppy and onshore – a write-off. But Friday is a little gem. Friday morning delivers a clean 4ft swell with offshore winds. The energy is moderate (616), but it's clean. The afternoon gets even better with a 4ft swell from the WSW, a 14-second period, and light offshore winds, boosting the energy to 827. That's a beautiful, clean, long-period wave that will be running down the point beautifully.
Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th are mostly messy or blown out. Onshore winds and rising swell sizes (up to 10ft on Sunday) but with poor conditions. The 10ft on Sunday afternoon is huge, but the cross-onshore wind makes it unrideable.
Now, here's where it gets interesting for the long-range. The first week of September has some serious size but also serious wind. We get into some proper big-wave territory on the 2nd and 3rd, with 13ft to 16ft swells, but those are accompanied by near-gale winds. That's kite-surfing weather, not really paddle surfing.
The standout for the whole run, if you can be patient, is looking like Monday the 8th of September. That morning session is pure gold. A 4ft swell from the WSW, with a 12-second period and a gentle offshore breeze. The energy is 563 (weak-moderate), but it will be smooth, clean, and perfectly shaped for the point. For a mellow, glassy session, that is your best bet. Crows are sometimes an issue here, so you might have some company on those peaky waves.
Alright, stay stoked, and I'll see you out there.
