Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Wedge over the next 16 days.
Alright, let's get into it. I'm looking at The Wedge here, and the first thing that jumps out is we've got a bit of a slow start, but the second half of the outlook has some proper size on the way.
For the first few days, it's pretty quiet. We're looking at Sunday the 12th through Tuesday the 14th with surf around 3ft to 5ft from the SSW and SW. The wind is light or variable, but the wave energy is weak, hovering around 200 to 587 (combined energy). It's surfable but nothing to write home about. The water temp is sitting at 58°, which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year.
Now, things start to wake up on Wednesday the 15th. The morning is a standout with a glassy 4ft SW groundswell, period of 17 seconds. That's a long-period swell, so it'll have plenty of push and shape, but it can be a bit straight at the Wedge itself. The energy is solid at 1149 (moderate). This is one of the better windows for a clean, smaller session.
Thursday the 16th is also looking good. We've got 8ft to 8ft SW swell with a 13-second period and glassy conditions all day. The energy is strong at 2310 and 1697. This is the kind of size that starts to get interesting for intermediate surfers. It's not huge yet, but it's clean.
Then Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th see the swell holding at 8ft to 10ft from the SSW, with a cross-offshore wind. The energy is very strong (2128 to 1727). These are solid, clean waves. The Wedge will start to show its character, but with that much size and a beach break setup, it's going to be powerful. The crowds are likely to be there, so keep your head on a swivel.
After a drop in size on the 19th and 20th, the real heavy stuff arrives. From Tuesday the 21st through Saturday the 26th, we are looking at serious swell. We're talking 10ft to 15ft from the SW and SSW, with periods of 14 to 17 seconds. The energy numbers are massive: 2971, 4667, all the way up to 10130 (strong to very strong). This is expert territory only. The wind is tricky here, with some periods of clean conditions but also some strong cross-onshore winds that will chop it up. The best windows look to be the morning of Tuesday the 21st with clean 10ft surf, and the morning of Saturday the 25th with glassy 8ft SW groundswell – that'll be a big, clean, powerful wave for the experienced crew.
By the 27th, it starts to calm back down, with 6ft to 5ft from the SSW and cleaner winds.
The standout for the whole period is likely the morning of Saturday the 25th. You've got a glassy 8ft SW groundswell with a period of 16 seconds. That's a very long period, which means it'll be a proper groundswell with heaps of energy, breaking cleanly. That's the one to mark on your calendar, but it's almost two weeks out, so keep an eye on it.
You're looking at a week of small stuff, then a solid week of proper, sometimes huge waves. Stay safe out there.
