Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what The Wedge has in store.
Right now, it's looking pretty grim. We've got a solid run of poor surf conditions through this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. That NNW wind is messing things up, and even though there's some small swell trying to wrap in from the SW, it's just not coming together. The water’s a bit colder than normal for this time of year, sitting at 57°, so you'll want a hood if you're stubborn enough to paddle out.
The first real glimmer of hope is this Monday, the 6th of July. The morning is the call here. We’re looking at a building 7 ft swell from the WSW with a decent 12-second period, and the wind goes glassy from the SE. That’s a game changer. The combined swell energy is solid at 1672, so there’s plenty of push. This is the first true standout – clean, glassy conditions at The Wedge with some proper groundswell moving in.
Tuesday the 7th keeps it going with another glassy morning, 6 ft from the SW and a 12-second period. The energy is still strong at 1247. It’s going to be a good run for a couple of days.
Now, hold onto your board. Wednesday the 8th into Thursday the 9th is where it gets serious. We’re seeing a big jump in size. Wednesday morning has 10 ft swell from the SW with a 13-second period, and the wind goes clean cross-off from the SSE. The energy is pumping at 2824. This is big, powerful surf – best left to the experienced crew. By Thursday afternoon, the 9th, the wind is even lighter from the SSE, the swell holds at 7 ft from the SSW with a lovely 15-second period, and the energy ramps up to 2354. That Thursday afternoon session is looking very, very good.
Things back off a bit over the weekend of the 11th and 12th. The swell drops and the wind turns a bit funky. But it’s not completely dead; there are surfable waves on the Sunday and Monday mornings (12th and 13th) with glassy wind and clean conditions, just much smaller, around the 4 ft mark.
The big one is coming on the 15th of July. Wednesday afternoon is an absolute beast: 13 ft of WSW swell, a 12-second period, and the combined energy is off the charts at 4865. The wind is clean and cross-off from the SSE. This is an expert-only zone. The size and power are massive.
Following that, Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th both have morning sessions that look incredible. Thursday morning is glassy with an 12 ft SW swell and 3233 energy. Friday morning is clean and cross-off with 12 ft from the SSW and a ridiculous 5719 energy for the afternoon session. These are the top-tier standouts – classic, clean, powerful Wedge.
After that, the swell starts to fade into the 18th, and the wind turns a bit onshore, so it'll still be big but less clean.
So, to sum it up: Don't bother until Monday the 6th. The real standouts are Thursday the 9th afternoon, and then the entire sequence from Wednesday the 15th afternoon through to Friday the 17th. That’s the time to be there. The Wedge is fairly consistent, but this run of swells is a proper event for those who can handle it.
Rusty.
