The Lowdown
Alright, let's get into it. The only game in town for this stretch is The Wedge, a breakwater setup that's pretty sheltered from the west. We've got a bit of a slow start, but there are a couple of days that are worth circling on the calendar.
The first real action kicks off on Tuesday the 18th in the morning. We're looking at a clean 7 ft swell from the WSW, with a 12-second period. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the south at 9 mph, so the face should be pretty tidy. The combined energy is pumping at 1894, which is a solid, moderate-to-strong push. This is the kind of morning that gets you out of bed early. It's not huge, but it's clean and has some grunt. The afternoon sees it bump up to 10 ft, but it goes a bit wonky with the tide and gets some cross-chop, so stick to the morning session.
The real standout, the one you gotta clear your schedule for, is Thursday the 20th. Thursday morning is the pick of the entire run. The swell is a solid 12 ft from the SW, with a 13-second period, and the wind is a clean cross-offshore from the SSE at 9 mph. The energy reading is a beastly 3844 – that's a powerful, meaty swell. This is proper Wedge territory. That said, at 12 ft, this is not a beginners' wave; this is for the experienced crew only. The morning is your window; the afternoon drops to 10 ft and gets a bit of a chop from the wind picking up.
After that, things get a bit messy. We have a gap from Friday the 21st through Saturday the 22nd where the quality drops right off. A bit of a lull until Sunday the 23rd morning, which looks excellent again. We've got a clean 8 ft from the SW, a 12-second period, and light cross-offshore winds from the SSE at 6 mph. Energy is a strong 2534. This is another very good, clean session that's a bit more approachable than the Thursday monster.
Looking further out to the second week, there's a promising window around Tuesday the 25th. The morning kicks off with 8 ft from the SW, but the period stretches out to 14 seconds, giving it some serious long-period groundswell punch. The energy is 2302 and the wind is clean cross-off. Tuesday afternoon is even better with 8 ft and the same long period, still clean. This is a great combo of size and power, but that long period means it might break a bit straight at a beach break. At The Wedge, that power should be fun.
After that, the wind turns onshore from the northwest and the quality goes out the window for a few days. We get a bit of a dud run from the 26th to the 27th. Then, on Friday the 28th, the size jumps up to 13 ft from the WSW with a very long 16-second period and a massive energy reading of 7647. That is a *lot* of water moving, but the wind is onshore, so the surface will be a mess. That setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, honestly.
The last real highlight is Sunday the 30th. Morning session shows 10 ft from the SW, 14-second period, strong energy at 3159, and clean cross-offshore winds from the SE at only 6 mph. This is another one for the experienced surfer, but the conditions should be pristine.
Overall, the water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing wild to report there. The Wedge can get a crowd, especially on the good days, so be prepared for company on Thursday the 20th and Sunday the 23rd.
Stay stoked.
