Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's get into the forecast for Yzerfontein. This stretch of coast is looking pretty good over the next couple of weeks, with some proper sessions on the cards.
The overall pattern starts with a building swell from the southwest and west-southwest. Water temps are sitting at a very unusual 55.4°, which is a massive 4.7° colder than normal for this time of year. That's a full-on winter chill, so a thick steamer is non-negotiable.
Monday, 6 July kicks things off with a shift. The morning brings a solid 6.9 ft swell from the west-southwest. The wind is perfectly glassy, dead calm. This is the standout window of the first week – clean, lined-up sets with a period of 11 seconds and a combined swell energy of 1132 (moderate to strong). It's a bit of size for the intermediates, but for experienced surfers, this is where you want to be.
The quality holds into Tuesday morning, 7 July with another glassy session. We're looking at a 6.2 ft swell, swinging more to the southwest now, with a longer period of 12 seconds (1334 energy). It'll be a little more powerful and a bit more walled-up, but still incredibly clean.
The middle of the week gets raw. Thursday, 9 July sees a big jump in size – we've got a 9.8 ft south-southwest swell with a 14-second period cranking the energy up to 6217. That's strong. This is expert territory, and the models are saying it's too big for this break. If you're a charger, maybe paddle out on the Thursday morning with clean, cross-off winds, but be aware this is a beast.
The size backs down into the Friday afternoon (10 July) and Saturday (11 July) , with 8.2 ft and 7.2 ft swells, but the winds get messy and cross-shore. Not the best quality.
We get a little breather at the start of the following week. Monday morning, 13 July and Tuesday morning, 14 July have small, glassy surf, but it's tiny – only 3.0 ft and 2.0 ft – and the energy is weak (280 and 220). It's a good chance for a longboard or a stretch of the legs.
Now, look ahead to the real standout of the whole forecast. Saturday, 18 July. The morning window is calling. We've got an 8.2 ft west-southwest swell with a very long period of 15 seconds (3387 energy), and the wind is a clean cross-offshore. That's a serious groundswell. This size is right on the edge for the experienced crew, and the long period will make it punchy. It'll be best on a point or reef, but Yzerfontein's beach-and-reef setup could handle it. This is the one to circle on your calendar.
The Sunday morning (19 July) after that is also a gem: 7.5 ft west-southwest swell, 12-second period (1927 energy), and pure offshore wind from the east. This is going to be clean, powerful, and a real session for those who know what they're doing. Consistency is fairly consistent here, and crowds are only sometimes an issue.
So, to sum it up: your best bets are Monday morning (6 July) and Tuesday morning (7 July) for the first week, and then lock in Saturday morning (18 July) and Sunday morning (19 July) for the second week. Get on it.
