Table - best surf conditions forecast for Yzerfontein over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming up for Yzerfontein.
We've got a solid run of surf ahead, but it's definitely one for the more experienced crew. The first few days are decent, but the real standout action happens later.
It all kicks off on Saturday the 11th. Yzerfontein is waking up to a clean 7ft SSW groundswell, with a period of 12 seconds. The wind is a light cross-off from the ESE, so the conditions are going to be excellent. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. The wave energy is strong, clocking in at (1391). This is a proper session for intermediates and above—it's a beach and reef setup, so the long-period groundswell should wrap in nicely. The crowds are sometimes an issue here, so keep an eye out. Saturday afternoon holds up too, with a similar 7ft SSW swell.
Sunday the 12th is a bit more relaxed. The morning brings a 5ft SSW swell with offshore ENE wind at 10 km/h, making for clean conditions. The energy drops to moderate (732), but it's still a very good session. The afternoon gets a bit messy with a cross-shore wind, so aim for the morning.
Monday the 13th is a glassy morning, with a clean 3ft SSW swell and not a breath of wind. It's a small day, but perfect for a longboard or a funboard. The energy is weak (307), but the glassy conditions make it a joy.
Tuesday the 14th is small and not great.
Now, Wednesday the 15th is where it gets interesting. The morning is glassy again with a 5ft SW swell, but the real highlight is the afternoon. We get a jump to an 8ft SW groundswell with a very long 15-second period. The wind is a clean cross-off from the SSE, and the wave energy is strong (3354). This is a top-tier session for experienced surfers. The long period will make for some proper, powerful lines, but watch out for it closing out if you're not on a point or reef.
Thursday the 16th is a big one. The morning has a 10ft SW swell, but it's too big for the break. The wind is up to 20 km/h cross-off, but the swell is just too much. The afternoon is an 8ft SW swell but with a fresh 30 km/h cross-shore wind that will chop it up. Not worth it.
Friday the 17th is a step down but still has a solid 8ft SW swell in the morning, though the wind is moderate. The energy is still strong (1458), but it's a bit sloppy. Afternoon is smaller and cleaner, but only marginal.
Now, for the true standout. Saturday the 18th. The morning brings a 6ft SSW groundswell, 12-second period, with a clean offshore E wind at 10 km/h. The conditions are excellent. Then the afternoon goes glassy with a 5ft SW swell at 13 seconds. This is as clean as it gets. The wave energy is strong (1273 and 1300). This is your best bet for a long, clean session with no crowds if you're lucky.
The following week gets a bit messy with wind, but keep an eye on Tuesday the 21st. The afternoon has a 4ft SW groundswell with a very long 17-second period and a clean cross-off wind. The wave energy is moderate (1067), but that period will deliver some long, powerful lines. It's an excellent session for those who know where to sit.
The end of the run, from the 23rd to the 26th, is all about huge swells. We're talking 12ft to 13ft SW and WSW groundswells, with energy readings in the thousands (6609, 11142). These are for experts only, and honestly, the forecast says it's too big for the break. The wind is often clean, but the size is just nuts. If you're a very experienced big-wave charger, the 24th of July morning with a glassy 13ft SW swell is your ticket, but it's a serious, dangerous day.
Rusty out.
