Table - best surf conditions forecast for Yzerfontein over the next 16 days.
Right, let’s have a look at what’s comin’ up for Yzerfontein. This is a beach and reef setup, exposed to the swell, and it’s a fairly consistent spot. The water’s a bit colder than normal for this time of year, sittin’ at 57°F with an anomaly of -3°F, so you’ll want a decent wetsuit if you’re paddling out.
The first real stand-out is Saturday the 11th of July. Saturday morning you’ve got a solid 7ft SSW swell with a 12-second period and a clean offshore breeze from the ESE. The combined energy’s pumping at 1391 (moderate to strong), and it’s gonna be excellent surf for experienced surfers. The afternoon stays clean too, with a 6ft SSW swell and cross-off wind from the S. Crowds are sometimes here, so you might see a few others, but this is the pick of the early window.
Sunday the 12th keeps the clean vibes in the morning with a 5ft SSW swell and offshore wind from the E, energy dropping to 805, but still a solid session. By Sunday afternoon it gets a bit messy with a cross-shore wind and a smaller 5ft swell.
Then we hit a bit of a lull. Monday the 13th has tiny 3ft swell and glassy conditions in the morning, but it’s small. The rest of the week stays small till Wednesday the 15th. That Wednesday morning is glassy again with a tiny 2ft SW swell but a very long 16-second period, energy at 595. That’s a sneaky clean one if you’ve got a longboard.
But the real mega-swell shows up Thursday the 16th. Thursday morning has a 10ft SW swell, period 13 seconds, energy at 2880 – but it’s too big for this break, even with light cross-on wind. This is expert-only territory. Friday the 17th is also 10ft SSW swell, clean with cross-off SE wind, but again, too big for most. The combined energy is well over 3000 both days. This is more of a kite-surfing setup than paddling for most crew.
Saturday the 18th is the next true standout. Saturday morning has a 7ft SSW swell, 14-second period, energy at 2127, and offshore wind from the E. That’s excellent for experienced surfers, and the afternoon cleans up with a 6ft SW swell and cross-off SSE wind. This is the best of the second week.
Sunday the 19th drops off to 3ft SW swell, not much there. The following week sees a few fun sessions: Monday the 20th is small, Tuesday the 21st morning has a 4ft WSW swell with clean cross-off wind, but the afternoon gets blown out.
Then Wednesday the 22nd morning is a hidden gem – glassy conditions with a 7ft SW swell, 14-second period, energy at 1537. That’s excellent for experienced surfers, and the glassy surface will make it a dream.
Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th have solid 5ft to 8ft SW swell, but with cross-shore wind, so a bit choppy. Saturday the 25th is the final big standout: Saturday morning has a 8ft SW swell, 13-second period, energy at 2235, with cross-off ESE wind. Saturday afternoon is even better – 8ft SW swell, energy at 3502, clean with cross-off SSE wind. That’s the best of the whole run, a solid 5/5 session.
Sunday the 26th goes massive again – 13ft SW swell, 15-second period, energy at 7019. That’s too big for this break, even with clean conditions. Leave that to the tow crew or the kite surfers.
So overall, the standout days are Saturday the 11th, Saturday the 18th, and Saturday the 25th. The 25th afternoon is the absolute best of the lot. The middle of the week has some fun smaller sessions, but those three Saturdays are your best bets.
