Table - best surf conditions forecast for Yzerfontein over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for our local stretch over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a solid run of swell on the way, but it’s gonna take a bit of patience to find the real gems. The first few days are small but clean, then things start to ramp up in a serious way mid-week and into the following week. The standout window is hands down the weekend of the 18th and then a big one lining up for the 23rd.
Kicking off Sunday the 12th, Yzerfontein’s got some fun, clean lines rolling in with a 5 ft SSW swell, period at 11 seconds, and a light ENE cross-off breeze. The water’s sitting about average for this time of year. The energy’s moderate at 732, so it’s got some push. Not a monster, but a real nice way to start the session. Afternoon shifts to a cross-on, so make the most of the morning.
Monday the 13th is a glassy, small day with 3 ft SSW swell. It’s a shortboard or a log kinda mornin’. The combined energy drops to 271, so it’s weak, but when it’s that glassy you don’t complain. Tuesday the 14th is similar, with a 3 ft W swell and glassy conditions again. Small but clean.
Now, Wednesday the 15th is where things get interesting. A 4 ft SSW groundswell with a very long 16-second period rolls in. The energy is moderate at 773, but that period means longer waits between sets and proper shape. The morning is clean with a light S cross-off. This is a quality, proper surf day. By the afternoon, the swell jumps to 8 ft with the same long period, and the energy rockets to 2773. That’s strong, but the wind goes cross, so it gets a bit messy. The morning is the pick.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th see the swell holding at 8 ft, but the wind is more cross and cross-off, making for lumpier conditions. The energy is still very strong (2605 and 1595 respectively). These are expert-only days on the bigger sets, especially with the shorter 11-13 second periods mixing in. Watch for the morning clean windows on Friday, but the size is no joke.
The first real standout is Saturday the 18th. Morning has a 6 ft SW swell from a 14-second groundswell, and the wind is offshore from the east. The energy is a strong 1776. The afternoon is even better – glassy, with a 6 ft SW swell. The crowd factor is ‘sometimes’ at Yzerfontein, so you might have company, but the conditions are going to be absolutely pristine. This is a top-tier day for experienced surfers.
Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th are a write-off. Swell drops right off, wind turns onshore, and the scores are poor. A couple of days to sit out.
Tuesday the 21st shows a bit of hope with a clean cross-off window in the morning, but the swell is only 4 ft and the energy is still moderate. Not exciting.
The absolute standout of the whole outlook is Thursday the 23rd. An 8 ft SW groundswell with a very long 15-second period, and a light ENE cross-off breeze. The energy is a massive 3237. This is a serious, powerful, world-class day. The afternoon is just as good with a 14-second period and clean cross-off winds. This is for experienced surfers only at this size. Mark it in the calendar.
Friday the 24th is the same size swell, but a strong northerly wind ruins it with a lumpy cross-chop. Saturday the 25th is a total mess with strong onshore winds and 10 ft of chaotic swell. Stay out of the water.
The final days, Sunday the 26th and Monday the 27th, show the swell easing back. Sunday afternoon is a beauty – 7 ft SW, glassy, and excellent conditions. Monday the 27th has a clean morning with a 6 ft SW swell and offshore winds, a nice way to round things out.
So to wrap it up: Friday the 18th is your weekend winner, and the 23rd is the big, groundswell jewel that’s worth planning around. Keep your wits about you on the big days.
Rusty.
