Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here.
The next couple of weeks at Yzerfontein are gonna be a proper mixed bag. We’ve got a run of small, clean days coming up that’ll have the longboarders smiling, but the real magic comes in the middle of the window with a solid pulse of SW groundswell. The water is sitting at 55°, which is a whopping 5° colder than normal for this time of year – that’s a serious anomaly, so don’t even think about leaving the 5/4 at home.
We kick off on Saturday, 4th July with a small, messy vibe. No point getting wet. Sunday, the 5th is where it starts to turn – clean, glassy conditions with a 3ft SW groundswell at 14 seconds in the morning. It’s small, but the rip bowl will be working and the peace is worth the price of admission.
Monday, 6th July is our first true standout. Morning glass with a solid 7ft swell out of the WSW, period a fat 11 seconds. The combined energy is strong (1299), and with clean, cross-off winds, the sets will be powerful and lined up. This is excellent, but at 7ft it’s pushing into intermediate-to-expert territory. The swell direction (WSW) is bang on what the spot wants for a clean peak.
Wednesday, 8th July is where it gets serious. A 8ft groundswell from the SW with a very long 16-second period is forecast for the afternoon, and the energy reading is massive at 3113. This is proper, deep-water energy. With cross-off winds from the SSE keeping it clean, this is the pick of the entire run for experienced surfers. Big, powerful sets will be marching in at the point.
We settle down on the 10th and 11th with glassy mornings and clean 5ft to 6ft SSW swells. The period stays high at 12-13 seconds, so the shape will still be there, just smaller. A true dawn-patrol window.
From the 12th onwards, the swell backs right off to around 3ft, but we get a few more glassy windows, especially the morning of the 13th and again on Sunday, 19th July. The 19th is a quiet note with a tiny 3ft glass-off, but the energy is gone (264) – a last chance for a longboard trim before the forecast window closes.
Be warned: Thursday, 16th July pumps out a massive 10ft S swell, but the combined energy is off the charts (2325) and the report straight up says it’s too big for this break. The swell direction is also not optimal for the setup. High tide and a cross-onshore wind will make it a washing machine. Give that day a big miss. Friday the 17th is another good morning for the brave, with a 8ft clean SSW swell and cross-off wind, but the afternoon gets hammered with 30 km/h cross-shore wind.
Overall, if you want the juice, lock in Wednesday, 8th July. For the clean, smaller stuff, Sunday the 5th and those early mornings from the 10th through the 13th are your best, most consistent bets.
Rusty.
