Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Yzerfontein’s got cookin’ for us.
The water’s sitting at 55°, which is nearly 5° colder than usual for this time of year – that’s a solid anomaly, proper nippy, so you’ll be wanting a thick wetsuit.
We’ve got some decent size rolling in from July 7th, with a 7 ft SW swell and 12-second period, and the wind’s glassy out of the NNE in the morning. That’s clean, that’s the kind of session you paddle out for. The afternoon turns a bit cross-on, but the swell pushes 7 ft with a 13-second period. Moderately strong wave energy here (1407 in the morning). This is an intermediate spot, generally fairly consistent, and it can get a few heads out there.
The standout is the morning of July 8th – 7 ft SW swell at 13 seconds, cross-off wind from the SSE, and the wave energy jumps up (2254). It’s clean as a whistle. For experienced surfers, this is the pick of the early run. Crowds are possible, but it’s worth it.
By July 9th, the swell barrels up to 10 ft from the SSW with a 14-second period – that’s big for this break, more of an expert-only day. The morning wind is cross-off and clean, but it's a heck of a lot of water moving (3267). This is thrilling if you’ve got the skill, but if you’re a beginner, stay on dry land. Thursday the 10th and Friday the 11th keep similar energy, but come Saturday July 12th, the swell drops to a much friendlier 5 ft to 6 ft range. The morning of the 12th is clean with a 5 ft SSW swell, 11-second period, and lighter energy (640). Good fun, not too hectic.
From July 13th into the 14th, things really wind down – small junky swell, lifting wind. Then there’s a big gap of a few days with poor surf – 15th, 16th, 17th are mostly messy or too onshore, with the 15th seeing 18 mph west winds ruining any chance. July 16th morning brings a surprise – a 7 ft SW swell at 12 seconds, light cross-off SE wind, clean face (1305). That’s a good little window for experienced guys again.
But the real long-range standout is July 18th – it’s still big, 10 ft SSW swell with 11 seconds, and the morning has a cross-off SE breeze, but the wave energy is strong (3257). That’s a powerful, clean morning for the experts who can handle it. July 19th morning drops to 6 ft SSW swell, 9 seconds, clean, much more manageable. The 20th sees a drop in quality, and after that it’s a flat run of poor conditions through to the 22nd. Overall, the morning of July 8th is your best bet, with the 16th as a promising secondary gem.
Stay stoked, and don’t forget your booties.
