Rocklands Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up.

We’re kicking off this run with a bit of a slow burn, but the wait is well worth it. The first few days are small but clean, and then it turns into a proper stretch of solid groundswell that’ll have the experts grinning. The water is sitting at 56°F at Rocklands, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so don’t forget a good winter suit.

The action starts on Friday the 31st of July. It’s not huge – just a clean 4ft swell from the SW with a 12-second period – but the wind is light offshore, keeping things tidy. Combined swell energy is moderate (437). It’s a solid warm-up for the weekend.

Saturday the 1st of August is where it gets interesting. The morning is glassy, with a 4ft SW groundswell pushing a 14-second period, and the energy bumps up to 585. The wind is dead calm, so expect clean, lined-up sets. This is a genuine standout for the early part of the forecast.

Sunday the 2nd of August brings a bit more size at 4ft, and the afternoon goes glassy again with a WSW swell and a 12-second period. The energy is climbing (628). It’s consistent and clean.

Now, Monday the 3rd of August is the first real head-turner. The morning session sees 4ft of SW swell, 13-second period, and glassy conditions – but the combined energy jumps to 1005, which is strong. The water’s going to feel powerful. This is excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon stays clean with a cross-off breeze.

Things get a bit messy on Tuesday the 4th and Wednesday the 5th of August. The swell picks up, but the wind turns cross-on, and the quality drops. Wednesday the 5th sees a big 10ft WSW swell, but with a strong 16 mph cross-on wind, it’s chopped out and poor. Not worth paddling out for.

Hold tight, because Thursday the 6th of August is an absolute standout. This is a big day for experts only. We’re looking at a 15ft SW groundswell, with a 13-second period, and a moderate offshore wind. The combined energy is massive (6080). The morning and afternoon both offer exceptional, clean conditions. This is one of those days you call in sick for – but only if you’ve got the skill and the board for it.

The rest of the first week stays solid. Friday the 7th of August has 10ft SW swell, with a clean afternoon session and a cross-off breeze. The energy is very strong (2614). Saturday the 8th keeps the 10ft WSW swell going, with clean offshore winds all day. Excellent for experienced surfers.

Sunday the 9th and Monday the 10th of August are a write-off – the wind swings onshore and the quality drops away. The surf is choppy and sloppy.

We get back into it on Tuesday the 11th of August. The morning is clean with a 7ft WSW swell and a 14-second period, and the energy is very strong (1760). The afternoon blows up to 10ft, with a massive 5159 energy, but the tide conditions might be tricky.

Wednesday the 12th of August is another big day. The morning brings an 12ft WSW swell, but the wind is cross-shore, so it’s a bit bumpy. The afternoon cleans up with a 10ft SW swell and a cross-off breeze. Excellent for the experienced crew.

The middle of the second week is a bit mixed, with smaller swell and some rain, but Friday the 14th of August offers a clean 8ft WSW swell with a solid offshore wind. Good energy (1857).

Now, for the absolute best on offer in the entire 16-day window: Saturday the 15th of August. This is the one. The morning session sees a 13ft WSW groundswell with a very long 15-second period, combined energy of 7463, and glassy conditions. The afternoon is even bigger at 15ft, with a 15-second period, clean cross-off wind, and a staggering 9500 energy. This is exceptional, world-class surf for expert surfers only. This is a true standout, but it’s a long way out, so you’ll want to keep an eye on the forecasts.
