Table - best surf conditions forecast for Jacobs Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's cast an eye over the coming weeks at Jacobs Bay.
Right off the bat, this is a tricky outlook for Jacobs Bay. We've got some proper heavy water on the way, and for a beginner-friendly spot like this, that can quickly turn it from fun to frightening. The water is sitting at 58°, which is a bit colder than what we'd usually expect for this time of year, so don't forget that extra layer.
The first few days are a real shame. We have a big, powerful SSW groundswell rolling in on Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th, with wave heights pushing 10ft. While the wind looks okay, that's simply too much juice for this break. It'll be a washing machine. The combined wave energy is absolutely pumping (5425 on Thursday, dropping to 3194 on Friday), but it’s all for the wrong reasons here. Saturday the 11th morning sees the swell drop a fraction to 8ft from the SSW, and with clean, light offshore winds, it becomes a decent option for experienced surfers only.
By Sunday the 12th, the swell eases further. Morning conditions are looking prime with an offshore breeze from the East and a clean 6ft SSW swell; this is your first real window for a mixed-ability crew. By Monday the 13th, the swell drops right down to a tiny 3ft. We then hit a real flat spell through to Wednesday the 15th, so expect a few days of small, weak waves as the combined energy drops to just 211.
Things start to look interesting again on Wednesday the 15th. A new, long-period SW groundswell shows up, with a period of 16 seconds. That's a proper groundswell, meaning energy and shape, but it can also be a bit tricky at a beach break, tending to stand up and close out. The morning looks clean, but it’s a small 3ft. The real standout of the entire forecast is Thursday morning, July 16th. We’ve got a consistent 8ft SW groundswell (period 13 seconds) with light offshore winds from the SSE. This is a solid, clean, powerful swell for the more experienced among you; a true highlight. The energy is strong at 2135 and the conditions are set to be excellent.
The outlook beyond that is a bit of a mixed bag. The 19th of July sees another absolute monster swell pulse through, pushing 13ft from the SSW with extreme energy (5928). That’s a "leave your board on the beach and watch the chaos" kind of day. Swells stay big and mostly messy through the end of the window, with the 24th of July showing a gigantic 16ft WSW groundswell with a 17-second period. That’s an extraordinary amount of energy (14763) but paired with an onshore wind, creating sloppy, dangerous conditions.
So, to sum it up: the pick of the bunch is Saturday morning the 11th for the experienced crew, and Sunday morning the 12th for the rest of us. The real standout, though, is Thursday morning, July 16th – mark it in your calendar, but don't bring the groms.
Stay safe out there, and check the tides before you paddle out.
Rusty.
