Table - best surf conditions forecast for Crystals over the next 16 days.
Righto, grab a coffee, 'cause I gotta be straight with ya – this is a tough one. Crystals is our only option on the table, and it's lookin' like a real desert out there.
We're kickin' off on the morning of Thursday the 9th of July, and honestly, I'm strugglin' to find a reason to get wet. The setup is a beach and jetty, and it's fairly exposed, but the swell direction is comin' from the ENE, which isn't its optimum. The water's a warm 76°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like a bath, but it won't make up for the lack of waves.
The whole 16-day run is a bit of a blank. We've got a long stretch with no real surf worth paddlin' for. The first week is plagued by tiny, weak swell. The combined wave energy is a measly 53 on Thursday morning, droppin' even lower after that. The swell heights are barely a ripple, with a weak 2ft on the 9th and it just gets smaller. The period is short, around 7 to 8 seconds, so it's just messy windswell, nothin' with any grunt.
The only time the swell tries to push a little is on Sunday the 12th, with a 4ft ENE swell, but that's a cruel joke. The wind is a fresh 19 mph cross-on from the NE, makin' it lumpy and choppy. The combined energy gets up to 71, but it's all for nothin' – it's a messy, blown-out mess. After that, it's back to tiny, weak waves, and by the 18th of July, we're talkin' 0.3ft swells with a long period of 14 seconds, which is just a slow, weak pulse of energy (combined energy of 11). That's not surf, that's a lake.
Basically, there's not a single standout session in this whole forecast. The swell is too small, the wind is either onshore or cross-off at best, and the quality is just "poor surf conditions" for every single entry. For a beach-and-jetty setup, this is more of a kite surfer's dream, because there's not enough push for a paddle surfer to do anything. It's a grim run, but for this area, a blank run like this is just part of the game. Forecasts can change, but right now, I'd save your energy and find somethin' else to do.
Rusty.
