The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, pull up a chair ‘cause it’s gonna be a long wait. The next 16 days are looking pretty flat and sad for the most part. We’ve got a real dry spell on our hands. There’s basically nothing worth paddling out for from now until the end of the third week of July. The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until around Friday the 24th, and even then it’s a mixed bag. So, we’re lookin’ at a solid week-plus of flat, poor conditions.
The first actual bump in energy comes Friday morning the 24th at Crystals (beach/jetty). The swell jumps up to 5ft from the ENE, but the period is a short, weak 6 seconds. That’s a messy, windswell bump. The combined energy is moderate, at 224, but with the wind straight onshore, it’s gonna be a washing machine. Definitely not for beginners at that size, and the quality is poor. By Saturday the 25th, the swell drops a little to 5-5ft from the E/ESE, still with a short 5-6 second period. The energy is moderate (121-149), and on Saturday afternoon we get a clean cross-offshore wind from the SW, which is a highlight. But the short period means the waves will be fat and crumbly. Not a total write-off, but it’s a “check the cam” situation.
The best of the worst, and the only true standout in this whole gloomy outlook, is the Monday afternoon session on the 27th. The swell is a modest 2ft from the SE with an 8-second period, giving a combined energy of 67. It’s weak, but the wind goes glassy and cross-offshore from the SSW. That’ll make it clean and rideable on a longboard. It’s the only day in the whole 16 days that even gets a 1/10 score, which tells you how rough the rest of it is. After that, it fades back to nothing.
So, the standout here is the afternoon of Monday the 27th at Crystals. It’s not gonna be epic, but it’ll be the cleanest wave you’ll see in a fortnight. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Rusty, signing out.
