The Lowdown
Right, grab a seat. It’s Rusty here, and I’ve got the lowdown on the surf ahead. It’s gonna be a tough stretch, so let’s not sugar-coat it. We’re looking at a long, flat spell before we get anything even close to rideable.
The forecast is a pretty bleak one for the next couple of weeks. We have a run of days with just no energy whatsoever. You're looking at a solid week to a week and a half of basically nothing. Most days are showing tiny, weak swell mixed with onshore or cross-shore winds. It’s the kind of stuff that has you checking the forecast twice and then just going back to bed.
The dates from 21 August through 27 August are a total write-off. There’s nothing here for a surfer. The swell is barely moving the needle, with wave heights hovering around 0.7ft to 2ft. The wind is mostly onshore or cross, which just chops up what little bit of bump there is, making it completely unsurfable. You’d be better off polishing your board than looking at it.
Things are still pretty poor on the 28th and 29th. We finally get a bit of a pulse, but it’s weak. The swell direction has turned to the SE, but it’s still tiny. The early part of the 28th looks like the best of a bad bunch, with the wind finally easing off to a light cross-offshore. The energy is still low though, and with a combined energy of only 100, it’s just not enough to get excited about. Not for a wave of any consequence.
Then we go into another flat spell from the 30th of August right through to the 1st of September. The swell is just gone. It's another dire period with waves down around 1ft to 2ft and a lot of drift. There is nothing here.
We see another couple of minor bumps in the road around the 2nd and 3rd of September, but they’re nothing to write home about. The swell pushes to a mighty 2ft with a period of 10 seconds, but the wind is onshore from the southeast, so it’ll just be lumpy. It's still not worth the paddle out unless you're desperate for a groove.
The outlook remains poor through to the 5th of September, with more of the same weak, onshore slop. There are no standout days in this whole window. We don’t see any decent groundswell, and the wind never lines up with any real size. It’s a frustrating look for the next two weeks.
If you’re really keen, the best you can hope for is a paddle around on the 28th of August when the wind is light. Even then, it’s a grovel. The whole scenario is a frustrating one. It’s a long stretch of flatness which is fairly normal for this area, but don't lose hope. Forecasts can and do change. There’s no swell on the horizon, but I’ll keep an eye on it.
This is Rusty, signing off.
