Alright, let's get into it. Gotta be straight with you – it's a pretty grim stretch ahead for the most part. We're looking at Crystals, and honestly, the first week and a half is going to be a write-off for any decent waves. The water's sitting at a balmy 74°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, but that's about the only good news.
Starting from Saturday the 4th right through to about Monday the 13th, it's just one thing after another – tiny swells, poor surf conditions, and when there's a bit of push, the period's terrible. Most of this time the combined energy is barely registering, with values like 21 and 57 (weak energy). The wind is mostly onshore or cross-shore, messing up what little shape there is. There are a few mornings with light cross-offshore winds, like on Saturday the 4th morning and Thursday the 10th morning, but the swell's only 1ft to 2ft – just not enough to do anything with.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn't come until Monday the 13th. That morning, a clean 3ft groundswell from the ESE with a period of 6 seconds sets up. The wind turns offshore from the WNW, and it stays clean through the afternoon. We're talking combined energy of 62 (moderate). It's only a 1 out of 10, but it's the best we've seen – surfable, just very ordinary. That little window holds into Tuesday the 14th morning, but then the wind picks up to 19 mph in the afternoon, and the energy drops a bit to 88 (moderate). Still, Tuesday afternoon is clean with an offshore wind, just a bit bumpy. Wednesday the 15th is similar – offshore all day, 3ft from the ENE, 7-second period. It's not gonna blow you away, but it's clean and you'll find a few fun ones. The best of the bunch is Monday the 13th morning – a true standout in this otherwise bleak run. That offshore wind is a major positive, giving you clean, workable faces despite the small size.
After that, it fades again. Thursday the 16th morning goes glassy, but the swell drops to 1ft. The final weekend and into the next week is tiny and messy, with combined energy values down to single digits (10 and 9) by Sunday the 19th. Those 13-second period swells on the 19th are way too long for the tiny size and that beach/jetty setup – they'll just close out.
So, keep your expectations low. The only time worth paddling out at all is from Monday the 13th through to Wednesday the 15th. Otherwise, it's a long, flat wait.
