Table - best surf conditions forecast for Crystals over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: this 16-day window is a rough one for surf. The only break on the table is Crystals, and it’s just not doing anything for us. There’s a dry spell right from the start – no decent waves to speak of for the entire forecast period.
Looking at Friday, July 10th, Crystals is offering a tiny 1 ft ENE swell with a weak period of 8 seconds and combined swell energy of just 35 – that’s feeble. The morning’s clean with a light WNW offshore breeze, but the waves are so small it’s barely worth paddling out. Water temperature is sitting at 75°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – over 4° above average, so it’s a notable warm blanket out there.
Saturday the 11th kicks up a bit to 3 ft, but it’s a short-period 4-second NE windswell (energy up slightly to 54), and winds are cross-onshore and making it fairly choppy. Not great. Sunday the 12th is similar: 2 ft onshore ENE swell, still choppy, still messy. The pattern keeps repeating – tiny swell, poor direction, and wind that’s not helping.
Monday the 13th through to Sunday the 19th? It’s a long stretch of flat to ankle-snappers. Monday morning has a 2 ft E swell at 7 seconds with light cross-onshore winds – still poor. A few mornings in the middle of the week offer glassy conditions, like Thursday the 16th early with 0.7 ft and no wind, but the energy is down to 9 and the waves are too small to ride. Even the Friday the 17th glassy morning with 0.3 ft of long-period 15-second groundswell is a tease – it’s clean but flat. That long period would be good for points and reefs, but here at Crystals, a beach/jetty setup, it’d just break too straight with no punch.
From Monday the 20th onward, the wind kicks up nasty: fresh to strong onshore breezes from the east and northeast, up to 25 mph, with tiny 1 to 2 ft swell. Onshore, choppy, lumpy – you won’t want to be out there. By Thursday the 24th, it’s dead flat with no swell at all.
Honestly, there’s not a single standout session in this outlook. The combination of weak swell energy, short periods, and mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds means it’s a write-off for paddle surfing. If you’re into kite surfing, the stronger winds from the 20th onward might make Crystals interesting, but for regular surfing, you’re better off waiting for a better forecast. This blank run is pretty normal for the area – it doesn’t tend to stay poor for long, and things can change, so keep an eye out.
Rusty out.
