Table - best surf conditions forecast for Crystals over the next 16 days.
Right, folks, let’s have a look. I’m Rusty, and I’ve got to be straight with you – if you were hoping for a ripper of a surf window, this stretch is a bit of a fizzer. The whole 16-day run out at Crystals (beach/jetty) is a long, flat slog. We’re talking nearly three weeks of poor surf conditions, with the combined swell energy barely scraping past the 100 mark. The best we get is 106 on Wednesday the 8th, and it’s downhill from there. This ain’t a typical blank run, but it’s a real dry spell.
Let’s walk through it. Wednesday the 8th morning has 3ft of weak, short-period ENE swell at 6 seconds, but it’s cross-on with a light breeze – not the kind of thing to get out of bed for. That afternoon drops to 3ft, still messy. Thursday the 9th is even smaller, with a 2ft swell and a cross-offshore S wind that cleans it up a bit, but it’s just too weak. Friday the 10th morning sees the tiniest bit of hope: 1ft from the ENE with an offshore WSW breeze at 3 mph, leaving it glassy. But 1ft ain’t surfable.
From there, it’s a long, slow death. Swell drops to 0.7ft and 1ft through the weekend, with onshore winds. The combined energy sinks into the teens and twenties – that’s weak. On Thursday the 16th morning, we get a glassy moment with 2ft and no wind, but it’s just a tease. The second week is the same story: tiny, weak pulses from the south and east, with periods all over the place. The only real energy shows up on Tuesday the 21st afternoon with a 2ft S swell and a cross-offshore breeze, but it’s still 42 combined energy – barely a ripple. The rest is practically flat.
Honestly, there’s not a single standout here. The only break on offer is Crystals, and it’s a beach/jetty that’s fairly consistent, but the conditions just aren’t there. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no dramas there. For paddle surfing, you’re better off staying home – the fetch and wind combo look more interesting for kite surfing. Keep an eye on the charts; it can’t stay this quiet forever.
Rusty, signing off.
