Table - best surf conditions forecast for Crystals over the next 16 days.
Right on, let’s take a look at Crystals. It’s a beach and jetty setup, fairly exposed, and the swell direction it loves best is from the northeast. Over the whole 16 days, it’s a pretty grim stretch – there are some longer gaps with absolutely nothing worth paddling out for, and the few times there is a bit of push, the conditions really let it down. The water temp right now is 77°F, which is a full 5°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s proper noticeable, like stepping into a bath.
We kick off on Saturday the 11th with tiny 1.0ft swell from the southeast, period a short 10 seconds, and a light cross-onshore breeze making it messy. Combined swell energy is a weak 24. Not worth a second look. That sets the tone for the next several days: Sunday the 12th has a bit more size at 4ft from the east, but it’s onshore wind and a period of only 5 seconds – just bumpy, weak junk. Monday through to Friday the 17th is all small, weak, and most of it cross-onshore or junky. The bits of offshore wind on Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th are there, but the swell is almost flat at 1ft or 0.3ft, so you’re just floating. That’s a long dead run.
There’s a little fizzle on Saturday the 18th with 3ft from the northeast and a clean offshore wind in the afternoon, combined energy at 50 – but a 5-second period means it’s weak, crumbly stuff. Not a standout.
The only time this stretch even gets close to interesting is around Monday the 21st into early Tuesday morning the 22nd. On Monday the 20th, we see swell building to 5ft from the northeast and east-northeast, combined energy climbing into the moderate range at 145 and 153, but it’s all cross-onshore and choppy. By Tuesday morning the 21st, it goes glassy – that’s a huge plus – with 5ft from the east-northeast, period 7 seconds, and the combined energy is 191, which is moderate but feeling solid enough. The comment calls it surfable but very ordinary, and that’s being kind. That brief window of glassy conditions on Tuesday morning is the closest we get to a highlight, but the wave quality just isn’t there.
After that, it falls apart again. Wednesday the 22nd has moderate cross-onshore, windy, and choppy. Thursday the 23rd brings the biggest swell of the period at 6ft in the morning and 7ft in the afternoon from the east, with combined energy jumping to 337 and 403 – strong energy – but it’s onshore and howling from the east-northeast at 25 km/h. That’s a full-on blown-out mess, and at over 7ft, it’s expert territory only. Friday the 24th stays big and onshore, still ugly. Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th see it drop back to small, junky cross-on slop.
Honestly, there’s no real standout here. The lack of a solid, clean window with decent swell and good wind makes this whole run a write-off for surfing. If you’re looking to paddle out, this setup looks far more interesting for kite surfing than surfing – especially those blown-out days around the 23rd and 24th.
