Table - best surf conditions forecast for Crystals over the next 16 days.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days at Crystals aren't looking like a classic surf window. It's one of those stretches where you're better off checking the forecast again later or doing something else, because the swell just isn't cooperating.
The season's got the water temps sitting at 75°F, which is a solid 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that's pretty notable, feels like a warm bath out there, but it's not making up for the lack of rideable waves.
The first real pulse of energy shows up on the morning of Sunday, July 12th, with a short-period 4ft swell from the ENE, but the wind is a cross-on mess and the whole thing is tagged as poor surf. The combined energy reaches 126 (moderate wave energy) but that's about all it's got going for it. By Sunday afternoon, the swell drops to 4ft and the wind goes onshore.
We get a few mornings on Monday and Tuesday, July 14th and 15th, with clean conditions and cross-offshore winds, but the swell is tiny – 2ft to 1ft – and combined energy is in the weak range (39-20). Not worth paddling out for.
There's a gap of several days after that with nothing but flat, poor conditions until the morning of Sunday, July 19th, when a 3ft S swell shows up, but again it's cross-on and choppy. The combined energy is 73, still weak.
Then from the 20th, we're back to tiny or flat surf with messy winds. The morning of Tuesday, July 21st brings a 4ft NE swell, short period at 6 seconds, cross-on wind, and it's just not clean.
The absolute best moment in this whole 16-day window is probably the morning of Saturday, July 25th – there's a light offshore wind from the WSW, clean conditions, and a 2ft S swell. Combined energy is 33 (weak). It's tiny, but if you're desperate for a float and a few small peelers, that's your window. It's not a standout worth planning a trip around, though.
Honestly, for the whole stretch, there's no day where the swell, wind, and quality all line up. Crystals is a beach/jetty setup that's fairly exposed, but the swell direction is mostly off or too short-period, and the wind is often cross-on or onshore. With the swell staying under 5ft, it's not dangerous for beginners, but it's also not fun for anyone.
If you're into kites, the windy afternoons in late July with cross-on or cross-off breezes might be more interesting than paddling out.
Keep your eyes on the forecast – stretches like this don't usually last forever.
