Table - best surf conditions forecast for Crystals over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the outlook for Crystals over the next 16 days is a real tough one. We’re looking at a long stretch of small, weak surf with pretty consistent onshore or cross-onshore winds messing things up. The water is sitting at 77°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s where the good news ends. There’s barely any energy in the water, with combined swell energy mostly in the teens or single digits.
The first real chance to even get wet doesn’t come until the morning of Sunday, July 13th. Even then, it’s only 3ft of swell from the ESE with a short period of 6 seconds, and a light cross-onshore breeze. It’s a weak, messy wave (69 energy). Monday morning, July 14th, offers a tiny bit of hope – a clean 1ft wave from the ESE, but the period is a long 9 seconds, which is a groundswell. That’s perfect for a point or reef, but here at a beach/jetty, it might just break too straight. From Tuesday, July 15th, through to the end of the week, we get clean conditions with offshore winds, but the swell is tiny – 1ft or less. It’s a glassy, clean surface, but there’s just no push.
The whole second week, from July 19th onward, is a write-off. The swell drops to 0.3ft or 0.7ft, with only a few clean moments. The energy is in the single digits. It’s flat, plain and simple. There’s nothing here that’s worth paddling out for. The setup is so weak that if you’re after a thrill, you’d be better off looking at kite surfing than a surfboard.
Honestly, the best on offer is the morning of Monday, July 14th. That 1ft groundswell with clean conditions is the only standout, and it’s a real stretch to call it a standout. For a beginner, anything over 5ft is too big, but that’s not an issue here – the problem is there’s nothing to ride. The break is fairly consistent, but a blank run like this is more normal for the area when the swell windows are this closed.
Stay patient, folks. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a long wait.
Rusty.
