Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chicahauk over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for our stretch of sand at Chicahauk.
To be straight with you, the next 16 days are looking pretty flat and ordinary overall. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak, and often messy surf, so you’ll need to be patient. The first real nod towards anything surfable doesn’t even pop up until Wednesday the 15th, and even then it’s just barely a pulse. After that, there’s a gap of several days of poor conditions before another small window appears late in the period.
The standout moment, if you can call it that, is on Thursday the 23rd of July. The morning offers the best chance of the whole run. We’ll see a 2 ft swell from the SSE wrapping in, with a clean, gentle offshore breeze from the SW making things nice and glassy. The combined energy is weak at 44, but for this break that’s about as good as it’s going to get. It’s a sandbar setup, and while it’s fairly consistent, it’s not a powerful spot. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
The afternoon of that same Thursday (23rd) brings a jump in size – 5 ft from the S – but the wind swings cross-offshore and the energy jumps to 270 (moderate). Still, the quality takes a hit, so I’d stick to the morning session.
Before that, the only other day with a flicker of life is Sunday the 12th of July, but it’s a bad one. A 5 ft NE windswell with a short, weak 6-second period crashes in, but the wind is howling onshore from the NE and there's a risk of thunderstorms. This is a kite-surfing setup, not a paddle day.
Wednesday the 15th of July is the earliest we see anything – a 2 ft SSE groundswell with clean offshore W wind, but very weak energy at 41. It’s surfable but ordinary. Only for the keenest on a longboard.
Later on, Friday the 24th of July afternoon shows another pulse – 4 ft from the S with 8-second period and moderate energy of 243 – but it’s cross-onshore and lumpy. Marginal at best.
Overall, if you want a wave, aim for the morning of Thursday the 23rd. That’s the one clean window in a long, flat spell. Crowds are sometimes a thing here, but on a day like that, you might get a few others with the same idea.
Stay patient, stay salty.
