Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chicahauk over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet stretch for Chicahauk (sandbar). The forecast is full of small, weak, and mostly messy conditions. We’re looking at a long gap with nothing really worth paddling out for, especially through the middle of July. The water is running much warmer than usual for this time of year at 83°F, which is a real standout – that’s over 4°F above the norm, so it’s notably warm.
The first bit of surf that’s even worth mentioning comes on the morning of Wednesday, July 15. It’s tiny, only 2ft from the east, with a short period of 6 seconds. The combined swell energy is weak (41). The wind is a light offshore from the WSW, though, so it’ll be clean. The forecast calls it “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” It’s small, but if you’re desperate and have a longboard, you might get a few ankle-to-knee-high sliders. That’s the best on offer for the entire outlook, and it’s a pretty weak best.
After that, there’s nothing. Mostly onshore winds, cross-shore chop, or flat spells. A few mornings show offshore wind on the 20th and 22nd, but the swell is barely 2ft to 2ft, so it’s not going to be a real session. There’s a brief mention of glassy conditions on the afternoon of Sunday, July 26, but again, only 1ft of swell. The energy is still weak (34). It’s not going to break properly.
Thursday, July 23, the morning has a moderate offshore from the SW and 2ft from the SE, 8-second period. Still “surfable waves but very ordinary.” That’s the other tiny highlight. The rest of the entire 16-day period is a write-off for surf. If you’re into kite surfing, the stronger cross-off winds on the 20th and 21st might be more interesting, but for paddling, there’s nothing to get excited about.
So, bottom line: don’t plan a trip around this. The surf is almost non-existent for the whole 16 days. The few tiny windows are for small-wave craft only. It’s a dry spell, but it happens here.
Rusty.
