Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Chicahauk has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t a great run. We’ve got a whole lot of days where the surf is just flat or gutless, and the wind isn’t playing ball either. It’s one of those periods where you might be better off waxing your board and waiting.
We start off with a real dud. Sunday the 5th through to Tuesday the 8th of July is basically a write-off. The swell is tiny, barely 1ft to 1ft, and the wind is mostly cross or cross-off. There’s just no energy in the water – the combined swell energy is barely registering, with figures like 23 and 14. It’s frustrating, but that’s the hand we’ve been dealt.
Now, there is a little flicker of hope. The best of a bad bunch looks to be Tuesday morning, the 7th of July. We get a clean 1ft swell from the ESE, and the wind goes offshore from the west. It’s only a 10-second period, so it’s not going to have much punch, but the combined energy hits 48. It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your window. The water is sitting at 80°, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
The rest of that first week is just more of the same. Wednesday the 8th is onshore and messy, and Thursday the 9th has a weak 2ft swell from the NE with a shockingly short 6-second period. The energy is still low, around 63. Not worth getting out of bed for.
The following week doesn’t offer much more. Friday morning, the 10th of July has a decent 2ft swell from the SE with an 8-second period and clean offshore wind from the WSW. The combined energy gets up to 74, which is the best we’ll see. It’s still small, but it’s the cleanest wave of the forecast. Saturday the 11th brings a pulse of 4ft from the NNE, but with a 5-second period, it's just a messy, choppy close-out. That’s a strong cross-on wind and a short period making a mess of things.
After that, it’s back to tiny, weak swells for the rest of the run. From the 13th to the 20th of July, we’re looking at 1ft to 2ft waves with very low energy (often between 16 and 61). The wind does go offshore a few times – like Monday afternoon the 13th and Wednesday morning the 15th – but there’s just not enough swell to do anything with. It’s a long, flat stretch.
To be honest, for this whole 16-day window, the standout is a reluctant nod to Friday morning, July 10th. It’s the most energy (74) with a clean offshore breeze. It’s still a tiny wave, but it’s the only one that looks halfway decent. For the rest of it, you’re fighting tiny swells and onshore junk.
Hang in there, folks. It won't be like this forever.
