Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chicahauk over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on the table for Chicahauk over this 16-day stretch.
It’s a quiet start with mainly small, weak surf and we won’t see any truly firing conditions. The water is sitting at 81°F which feels a touch warmer than usual for July.
The first day that offers anything is Tuesday the 7th, but it’s really just tiny with south winds keeping things messy and a storm risk hanging around. You’d be fighting for scraps on a 1ft swell. Wednesday the 8th is a write-off with onshore wind.
Thursday morning the 9th gives us the best chance in the first week. The swell bumps up to 3ft from the NE, but the period is a short 8 seconds. The big win here is the glassy morning with a light SSW cross-offshore breeze, so it’ll be clean. The combined swell energy is 103 (moderate), but the surf is really just ordinary – okay for a cruise but nothing to write home about.
Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th stay small and weak. Friday morning offers clean, offshore wind but only 1ft of swell. The combined energy drops to 56 (weak). You could get a couple of knee-high runners, but don’t expect much.
From Sunday the 12th right through to the middle of the next week, the swell picks up a little but the wind turns onshore and stays there. Monday the 13th sees the biggest wave height at 4ft from the ENE, but it’s a 6-second windswell with combined energy of 140 (moderate). The onshore wind at 16 mph will chop it up. Not worth paddling out for.
Wednesday the 15th offers a brief reprieve – morning offshore wind from the WSW with 2ft swell from the ENE. The combined energy is only 86 (weak), but the clean conditions mean you might snag a few small, peeling waves on the sandbar before the wind swings.
After that, it fades fast. From Thursday the 16th through to Wednesday the 22nd, we’re looking at wave heights mostly below 3ft, weak combined energy (mostly two-digit numbers), and a mix of cross-shore or onshore winds. A few clean moments pop up on the 22nd with a fresh offshore wind, but with only 2ft of swell and 61 energy, it’s barely enough to wet your line.
If I had to call a standout, it’s Thursday morning the 9th – the only real window with clean conditions and a little push. For the rest, it’s about managing expectations.
Rusty.
