The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's cookin' at Chicahauk over the next couple of weeks.
First off, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch. The water is sittin' at a balmy 84°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, like bathwater, but the waves are just not cooperating. We’re looking at a real dry spell for a solid week. From Tuesday the 14th right through to the end of Saturday the 19th, it’s mostly flat or tiny, messy junk. You’d be better off waxing your board than paddling out. The odd little pulse shows up, but the energy is weak (combined energy of all swells directed here only hitting 103 at best) and the wind is all over the shop.
Now, there’s a tiny glimmer of hope on Sunday the 19th morning. The wind swings offshore from the WSW at 12 mph, and we get a little bump of 3ft ESE swell. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. Don’t get your hopes up.
The real standout, and I mean the only half-decent window in this whole 16-day outlook, is on Saturday the 25th in the morning. We get a clean 4ft swell from the NE, and the wind is light offshore from the WSW at 6 mph. The energy is moderate (133). It’s a small, clean, friendly wave for an intermediate. Keep in mind the swell period is short (5 seconds), so it’s not gonna have much punch or shape, but it’ll be the best you’ll get. The crowds can be an issue here sometimes, but for a wave this size, it might be worth a look.
After that, things go back to being a bit of a mess. The week starting Monday the 27th is mostly onshore and choppy, with a few more offshore slivers on the 28th and 29th, but the swell is pathetic, barely 2ft. There’s just not enough juice to get excited about.
So, to be honest, there’s nothing here that’s gonna blow your mind. If you’re desperate, pencil in the morning of Saturday the 25th. Otherwise, give it a miss and wait for the next weather system to shake things up.
Rusty.
