Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chicahauk over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at the numbers for Chicahauk. Honestly, it’s a rough stretch ahead. We’ve got a long dry spell before anything worth paddling out for shows up.
The water temp is about 82°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s the only good news.
The first week and a half is a total washout. Winds are mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell is tiny and weak. There’s a bump on Sunday the 12th with a NE windswell running 4ft to 6ft, but it’s blown out with onshore winds and a short, messy 5 to 6 second period. The wave energy is weak to moderate, but it’s just not surfable. This pattern of onshore wind and poor quality sticks around through the middle of the week.
We’re looking at a real dead zone. Nothing worth a paddle from Friday the 10th all the way through until Wednesday the 23rd. That’s more than a week of flat, blown-out, or just plain ugly conditions.
The only real standout in this whole 16-day window is Thursday morning, the 23rd of July. Finally, it all comes together. We’ve got a solid 6ft swell from the SSE, with a moderate 8-second period, and the wind is glassy. Absolutely flat, clean conditions. The combined energy hits 462 (strong wave energy), so there’s some real power there. That’s your moment. Get out there early, because by the afternoon the wind switches to a cross-shore at 18 mph and it’s getting messy.
After that, Friday the 24th has a drop-off, down to about 5ft with offshore winds, but it’s only a 6-second period, so it’ll be weak and lumpy. Just ordinary.
So, to sum it up: the whole 16-day run is a bust except for that one glassy morning on the 23rd. If you want to surf, that’s your only real shot. Otherwise, it’s a long wait.
Rusty.
