Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be real – we’re looking at a pretty quiet run for Chicahauk across this 16-day stretch. The combined wave energy stays weak in the 8 to 96 range the whole time, so there’s nothing with any real grunt. The most you can hope for is a few tiny, clean waves for a longboard or a foiler, but even then, it’s not going to get your heart pumping. This sandbar set-up needs more push to get interesting.
Monday 6 July kicks things off with a measly 1ft of ESE swell and a 9-second period. Morning has a WSW offshore at 9 mph, keeping it clean, but the water temp is pretty average for this time of year – nothing unusual. It’s just not enough to paddle for. That afternoon the wind swings cross-shore and it gets choppy.
Tuesday 7 July is more of the same: 1ft with a longer 10-second period, clean offshore in the morning, but the energy is still only 37 – weak. Poor conditions.
Wednesday 8 July brings onshore NE winds and a messy 1ft. Forget it.
Thursday 9 July has a brief bump in swell height to 2ft, but the period drops to 6 seconds – that’s short period wind swell, crumbly and weak. Cross-onshore wind doesn’t help. Friday 10 July afternoon is the first time we see a “1” score – 1ft, 8-second period, clean with a light offshore. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. That’s the best of the first week, and it’s barely a ripple.
The weekend is a write-off. Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July are all poor – onshore, cross-onshore, tiny swell, and messy.
Monday 13 July morning actually goes glassy with 3ft of 6-second swell from ENE, but it’s weak (energy 64) and the period is short. You might get a few knee-high closeouts if you’re desperate. Tuesday 14 July morning is clean again with 2ft and a better 8-second period, but still, it’s not what you’d call a surf. After that, the wind gets fresh and lumpy.
From Wednesday 15 July through to the end of the period on Tuesday 21 July, the swell stays tiny – mostly under 3ft – with poor wind and short periods. The last mention of a cleanish session is Tuesday 21 July morning with moderate offshore wind on 3ft of NNE swell, but at 5 seconds period, it’s just bumpy whitewater.
Honestly, there is no standout session here. If you absolutely have to get wet, aim for Friday 10 July afternoon or Tuesday 14 July morning for the cleanest conditions on the smallest of waves. Otherwise, the blank run is pretty typical for this area when the swell is this flat. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d save the petrol.
Rusty.
