Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chicahauk over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again, but for my mates who think in feet and miles.
We’re looking at a pretty quiet run ahead, to be honest. The first real chance for a paddle looks like it’ll be Thursday morning, July 9th at Chicahauk. That morning we get some tiny swell – only about 1 ft – pushing in from the ESE with a period of 9 seconds, so a bit of a weak groundswell vibe. The energy is weak, coming in at only 57 units, but what makes it worth mentioning is the wind. We’ve got a light offshore breeze out of the SW, glassing up that clean water nicely. The water temp is sitting at 82°, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Not a day to get excited about size, but for a sneaky session you could tickle a few.
Friday morning, July 10th offers something similar – again, 1 ft of clean surf from the SSE with that same offshore SW wind. The period drops to 7 seconds though, so it’s a bit more windswell and a little gutless, with combined energy of just 41. It’s still clean, but very average.
The swell does get a bump on Monday, July 13th through Tuesday, July 14th, but we’ve got a big problem: onshore NE winds howling at 22 mph, turning things into a washing machine. The wave height climbs to 4 ft with moderate energy (157 units on Monday morning), but the period stays short – around 7 to 8 seconds – and it’s sloppy. Not our day at all.
A better window opens on Wednesday morning, July 15th. A light WSW offshore wind, clean faces, and we have 3 ft of swell from the east at 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 125, and it’s surfable, though the wave quality is just ordinary. You’d have to be keen, but it’s a possible go.
Then Saturday morning, July 18th and Sunday morning, July 19th both show *clean* conditions with solid offshore winds – SW and WSW respectively. Swell is small though, 3 ft and 2 ft, with short periods around 8 seconds, and combined energy below 100. These are small, clean, fun-sized days for the log or a mid-length.
Overall, nothing in this 16-day window is a true standout. The closest we get to a highlight is that Thursday morning, July 9th session with glassy conditions and a touch of groundswell, or Wednesday morning, July 15th with the moderate east swell and clean offshore breeze. If you’re a beginner, the small stuff is fine, but anything over 4 ft we get is blown out and messy.
Stay patient – this area tends to flick a switch, and the long-range forecasts can change. Keep an eye on the wind.
