The Lowdown
Right, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Chicahauk.
Honestly, the next week or so is looking pretty grim. There’s a long stretch of flat to tiny, junk swell and rubbish winds, so you’re not missing much if you keep the board in the car. The water temp is sitting at 83°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – a bit of a tropical bath.
We’ve got a few mornings with clean conditions, like Tuesday the 18th morning with a small 2ft SE swell at 9 seconds and a nice cross-off breeze, but the energy is weak (69). It’s surfable, but just barely. Then a gap of nothing worthwhile until Wednesday the 26th morning. That morning shows a modest bump in energy – 2ft from the east at a very long 16 seconds, and the combined energy climbs to 166, so there’s a bit more push. It’s clean with a moderate offshore wind, but it’s still small. Thursday the 27th afternoon has 3ft from the ESE at 12 seconds, with 303 energy – that’s moderate energy – and clean cross-off wind, which is the best we’ve seen.
The real standout, if you can wait, is Sunday the 30th morning. It’s glassy, dead calm, with a clean 3ft ESE swell at 11 seconds. The energy is a solid 243. This is the pick of the bunch – clean, fun-sized waves with no wind to mess them up. It’ll be a good one for intermediates, and crowds are possible at this spot. Still, at 3ft, it’s not big, but given the dry run before it, this is the session to aim for.
Other than that, the rest of the run is mostly poor or marginal. Monday the 31st morning is glassy but only 2ft with weak energy (85), and then it fades back to tiny. The long-range stuff around the 1st and 2nd of September is too weak and inconsistent to get excited about. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but right now, Sunday the 30th is your best bet.
