The Lowdown
Hey, it's Rusty. Lookin' at the 16-day window for Chicahauk (sandbar) and I gotta be straight with you—there's no real surf to get excited about. The whole stretch is a flat spell with barely a bump worth paddling for. The water's a touch warmer than normal right now, sitting at 82°F, about 2°F above average, but that's the only highlight.
Sunday the 19th kicks off with a tiny 2ft SSE swell (8s) and a moderate offshore breeze, but the energy's weak (46) and the waves are just ordinary—score's a 1 out of 10, if that tells you anything. Monday the 20th is even smaller, 1ft, with a shifting wind. Tuesday the 21st drops to 1ft, then Wednesday the 22nd morning sees a bump to 4ft SE swell (8s) with moderate energy (163), but the wind is howling 22 mph offshore, and conditions are still rated poor. That's the biggest swell of the whole run, but it's blown out and messy. Thursday the 23rd through to the end of July stays small—2ft to 4ft—with onshore or cross-onshore winds and choppy water. The closest we get to clean is Monday the 27th morning: glassy, but only 3ft E swell (7s) and weak energy (77). Still a score of 1—surfable but ordinary. The morning of Thursday the 30th goes glassy again with 1ft ESE, but that's barely a ripple.
From there into early August, it's all 1ft–1ft with cross-onshore winds and poor conditions. The optimum swell direction for this spot is east, but most of the swells are from SSE, SE, or ENE, so nothing lines up. Combined energy never breaks 200, mostly below 100. Honestly, there's not a single standout session. If you're desperate, Monday the 27th morning might give you a few small, clean waves, but it's not worth planning a trip around. For a spot that's fairly consistent, this is a flat spell—but it won't stay poor forever. Forecasts can change. Keep an eye on it.
