Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chicahauk over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s in store for us at Chicahauk over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I’ve got to be straight with you: the first week or so is looking pretty average. We’ve got a long stretch of days where the surf is just not doing us any favours. From Saturday the 11th through to about Tuesday the 14th, the waves are small, messy, and the wind is all over the shop. The water temperature is sitting at 83°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing to get excited about. The combined energy is weak, with values mostly under 100 (19), so don’t expect any push.
We finally get a bit of a better window on Wednesday morning the 15th. The wind swings to a light offshore from the WSW, cleaning things up nicely. The swell height is a small 3 ft from the E, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is still low (81), but we’ll take what we can get. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. After that, we’re back into a flat spell with almost nothing until the following Monday.
Now, Monday the 20th of July brings a little more hope. The morning session looks the pick of the whole forecast. The wind is offshore from the W at 12 mph, and the swell picks up to 3 ft from the SE with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 148. It’s still not pumping, but it’s the cleanest we’ll see in a while. The afternoon though, the wind swings onshore and chops it up.
The last real standout comes on Friday the 24th of July. The afternoon session is where it’s at. We’ve got a gentle offshore wind from the S, and the swell is 4 ft from the S with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 210, which is moderate and actually has some grunt. The forecast says “expect good surf conditions,” and for once the wind and swell line up. It’s not a monster, but it’ll be clean and fun. If you can only pick one session, that’s the one.
The following morning on Saturday the 25th also has a clean offshore wind with 4 ft swell from the SE, but the period is short at 7 seconds. It’s a solid second option, but not as good as Friday afternoon.
Overall, it’s a pretty lean run. The surf is small and inconsistent throughout most of the 16 days, with only a few brief windows of clean, rideable conditions. Keep an eye on it, though—forecasts can change.
