The Lowdown
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's in the water for the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you, the first week is a grind. There's a little bump of hope around the end of the week, but it's bleak overall.
We're looking at Chicahauk, a sandbar. The water's sitting at 83°, which is a touch warmer than average, so the rubber stays thin.
The first few days are a total bust. From Wednesday the 15th through Saturday the 18th, we've got ankle-biters at 0.7ft to 0.9ft, with weak energy (12-30), and the conditions are just junk. It's flat and messy.
There's a tiny glimmer on Sunday the 19th. The morning brings a pulse of 3ft swell from the SSE with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps to a moderate 124, and we've got clean offshore wind from the WSW. It's surfable, but very ordinary. It's the best we've got, but that's not saying much.
After Sunday, it's back to the doldrums. Monday the 20th has a tiny 2ft swell with a light offshore in the morning, but the energy is weak (69). Tuesday the 21st is similar, with 2ft and a moderate offshore. Again, nothing special and weak energy (61). From Tuesday afternoon, the onshore winds kick in and don't let up, making everything lumpy and miserable right through to the end of the month.
The only real standout, if you can call it that, is Sunday morning the 19th. It's the only window with a clean offshore wind and a swell pushing nearly 3ft. It's a sandbar, and with that short 8-second period, it'll be a bit fat, but it's the cleanest the beach will look all period. If you're jonesing for a session, that's your best bet. There are no other decent options.
So, unless you're into flat spells and side-shore slop, this is a pretty rough run. Sometimes the ocean just shuts down.
Rusty.
