The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's chew the fat on what's cookin' at Chicahauk for the next couple of weeks.
It's a flat start, no two ways about it. We're lookin' at a whole lot of knee-high dribble and messy wind for the first few days. The real story don't start to rumble until the middle of next week.
The standout window is shaping up to be Wednesday the 30th through Thursday the 31st. We've got a solid pulse of swell that's been building through the end of the month. The best of it looks like it'll be on the morning of Wednesday the 30th. We're talkin' a clean 7ft swell from the NE with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy will be pumping at a strong 452 (moderate to strong wave energy). The wind is light from the NW, with that glassy cross-off breeze that'll keep the face clean. For a beach break, the period is a bit short, so it won't be super lined up, but there will be plenty of punchy, warbly peaks to chase. The water temp is a warm 81°F, which is about 1°F warmer than average, so it's feelin' pretty normal for this time of year.
That 7ft size is a bit much for the groms and beginners, but it's a fun size for an intermediate lookin' for a push. The crowds at Chicahauk can be a bit of a thing on a morning like this, so get out early if you want a clean peak to yourself.
The swell hangs in there through the afternoon of the 30th, but the wind swings onshore from the ESE, choppin' it up. The 31st is a write-off with more cross-onshore wind, so that Wednesday morning is your one true shot.
Before that, you've got a pulse on the 28th and 29th, but it's pretty marginal. We see a 5ft and 6ft swell on the 28th and 29th afternoons, but the wind is messy and the quality is just okay. Nothin' to get too excited about.
After the 31st, it fades into a small, weak combo of windswell and onshore breezes.
So, if you're keen, pencil in the morning of Wednesday the 30th. It's the only time the stars really align for a proper session.
Rusty.
