The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a tough one to write. The next 16 days are looking pretty grim for Chicahauk. We’ve got a long, flat stretch ahead with barely a ripple worth getting excited about.
The water is warm, sitting at a very unusual 84°F for this time of year. That’s over 5°F warmer than average, which is a real standout, but it’s the only standout we’ve got.
The pattern starts on Friday morning, the 21st of August, with poor surf conditions. A tiny 1.0ft swell from the ESE, with a period of 9 seconds, and a cross-onshore breeze is making a mess of things. The combined energy is weak, reading only 26. This flat, poor-quality theme is going to hang around for days. We’ll see a few small windows of glassy conditions, like Tuesday morning, the 25th of August, with a glassy 1ft swell, but it’s still just a dribble. The energy is still low at 30.
We’ve got a gap of several days here with nothing recommended. The surf stays small, bumpy, and mostly onshore through the following week. There’s a tiny flicker of hope on Friday morning, the 28th of August, with a 2ft ESE swell (9 seconds, energy 70). The wind is offshore from the W, making it clean, but it’s still just “surfable but very ordinary.” It’s not enough to get the heart pumping. The following Saturday morning, the 29th of August, is similar with a 2ft swell and a light cross-offshore breeze, but the period drops to 8 seconds and the energy is 55. Not great.
Looking further ahead, we get another glassy morning on Thursday, the 3rd of September, with a 1ft ESE swell, 9-second period, and energy of 49. But again, it’s just a tiny, weak wave. The rest of the forecast into the second week is more of the same: small, weak, and messy.
Honestly, there’s nothing here that screams “go.” The best of the lot is probably the Friday morning, the 28th of August, with that clean 2ft wave, but it’s a real micro-swell. If you’re desperate for a paddle, go. Otherwise, wait for a better forecast.
Stay patient, and don’t force it.
