Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chicahauk over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got coming up for Chicahauk. I’ll break it down day by day for you.
To be straight with you, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and messy. We don’t have any proper standouts to get excited about. The surf is going to be small and mostly blown out, so keep your expectations low.
We start off Wednesday, July 8th, with a stormy vibe. Onshore wind from the ENE at 12 mph, and the swell is tiny – 1 ft to 3 ft from the ESE and NE. The period is short too, around 5-9 seconds. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 82°F. It’s just poor conditions all day, so don’t bother paddling out.
Thursday, July 9th, brings a fleeting moment. The morning is glassy with a light E wind at 3 mph. The swell is still only 1 ft from the ESE with a 9-second period. Combined energy is low at 95. It’s surfable but very ordinary. That glassy wind is a major positive, but the lack of size holds it back. The afternoon goes downhill with a cross-onshore SE wind and choppy conditions.
Friday, July 10th, is our best bet across the whole 16 days, but it’s still nothing special. Offshore wind from the WSW and SW at 12 mph will keep things clean. The swell is a tiny 1 ft from the SSE with an 8-second period. Combined energy is weak at 56 in the morning and 46 in the afternoon. It’s clean, small, and surfable for a longboard or a foiler, but not a standout by any means.
Saturday, July 11th, starts with a light cross-offshore wind and 1 ft surf, but the afternoon brings moderate rain and a cross-on SE wind that kills it.
From Sunday, July 12th, we hit a long flat spell. For days on end, the swell barely reaches 2 ft, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the combined energy stays below 100. There’s a bit of a pulse on Monday, July 13th, with 5 ft to 5 ft from the ENE, but the period is a weak 7 seconds and the wind is strong onshore at 22 mph. That’s just lumpy, choppy junk. Not for surfing – that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
We go through a long gap with no recommendations. The only tiny flicker of hope is on Thursday evening, July 16th, and again on Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd, where we get clean conditions but with swell under 0.5 ft. It’s barely rideable.
The last week remains flat. On Monday, July 20th and Tuesday, July 21st, the swell picks up to 3 ft-4 ft from the SE, but the wind is onshore at 12-19 mph. Combined energy gets up to 186, but it’s all wind-affected and messy. No quality.
So, overall, there’s nothing here to get excited about. The best window is Friday morning, July 10th – tiny, clean, and offshore, but you’ll need a lot of paddle power. If you’re a beginner, the small stuff is safe but dull. If you’re an expert, there’s no push to get your heart pumping. A long, flat run like this is normal for this area sometimes, so don’t lose faith – forecasts can change.
Stay patient, mates.
