Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chicahauk over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s switch to feet and Fahrenheit. Rusty here.
Chicahauk is in a tough spot. The next few weeks look skinny and blown out, so don’t rush to the beach. Water’s running 83°, which is way warmer than usual for this time of year – feels like bathwater, but that’s not helping the waves.
First chance of anything is Monday morning, July 13th, but it’s a rough one. Swell hits 5ft from the east, period just 7 seconds, so it’s all windswell. Combined energy is 220 – moderate – but with the wind ripping 19 mph from the ESE, cross-on, it’s lumpy and ugly. Total write-off.
Through Tuesday and Wednesday, it drops hard. July 14th shows 3ft from the east, 6-second period, onshore wind. Not worth a second look. Wednesday morning, July 15th, has only 2ft from the east but the wind flips offshore from the west at 6 mph – clean, but tiny. Energy is just 30 (weak). Maybe a waist-high closeout if you’re desperate.
Thursday, July 16th, still tiny: 1ft from the ESE, 8-second period, glassy in the morning with light offshore wind. Combined energy 29 (weak). You’re looking at knee-high at best. Not a stand-out.
Friday through the weekend is a flat spell. Swell dips to 0.7-1.0ft, energy in the teens (12-17). On Sunday morning, July 19th, you get 1ft from the SE, light offshore from the WSW – clean, but still tiny. That afternoon, a spike: 3ft from the SSE, 7-second period, energy jumps to 118 (moderate). But the wind is screaming 22 mph from the NNE, cross-on, with thunderstorms. It’s rough, choppy, and more for kite surfers than paddle surfers.
Monday, July 20th, stays around 3ft from the SE, 8-second period, but cross-on winds at 19 mph. Combined energy 105 (moderate), but messy. The pattern holds: small, onshore, ordinary.
The only decent window appears on Monday morning, July 27th – wind goes dead glassy from the ENE at 3 mph, with 2ft from the ESE, period 8 seconds. Combined energy 63 (still weak), but it’s clean and lined up. That’s your best bet of the whole 16-day run: a small, glassy morning with a few fun little waves. Not a bombshell, but it’s the closest thing to a green light.
Other than that, Chicahauk is a long stretch of weak swell, poor wind, and no real quality. It’s one of those runs where you wait and hope the forecast shifts.
Rusty.
