Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chicahauk over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, let’s be straight up. I’ve scanned the next 16 days for Chicahauk, and it’s a tough watch. The forecast is a long, drawn-out stretch of mostly poor conditions, with only a couple of fleeting moments that might get you wet.
The pattern is a real bummer. We kick off with a solid gap of several days starting Sunday the 12th through to the morning of Wednesday the 15th, where the wind is howling onshore or the swell is just too messy to bother with. That first week is a write-off, honestly. The water temp is about average for the time of year, but that’s small comfort when you’re looking at flat, choppy dribble.
Now, if you’re desperate, there’s a tiny window on the morning of Wednesday, July 15th. The wind will swing around to a light offshore from the NW, cleaning things up. The swell is a tiny 2 ft from the east, with a weak combined energy (56). The period is a short 7 seconds, so it’ll be weak and a bit fat. It’s surfable, but only just. Don’t expect any power.
After that, we go back into a long, dry spell. The next real chance doesn’t pop up until late in the run. On Friday morning, July 24th, we get a bit of magic. The wind goes glassy, dead calm, with a light offshore from the SW. The swell is still small, 2 ft from the SE, with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of 41. It’s still weak, but glassy conditions are a gift. This is the best of the worst, but it’s only for the real optimists.
The rest of the second week? More wind, more chop, and a few offshore blasts that are too strong to paddle into. There’s a big gap of nothing from the 15th afternoon all the way to the 24th. It’s just a tough, flat run for this sandbar. The forecast can change, but right now, I’d be checking the wind checker before you even bother waxing up.
Rusty.
