The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break this down. Blacks Beach is taking its sweet time. The first few days are total skunk territory—tiny, weak swell and a cross-shore breeze that’s just killing any chance of a wave. You’re looking at a solid 4-day gap of nothing until Monday the 20th.
Monday morning finally shows some life, with a SSW swell hitting 5 feet, but the wind is onshore and messy. The wave energy is moderate (661), but it’s a choppy mess. That trend sticks around through the week, with swell hanging between 3 and 4 feet, but that cross-onshore wind from the SW never lets up. It’s not unrideable, but it’s not clean.
The big moment is Saturday the 25th. We get a solid pulse of SSW swell, pushing 6 feet in the morning. The combined energy jumps to 2114, which is strong. That’s the biggest wave of the whole 16-day window. The catch: the wind is still cross-onshore from the SW at 9 mph, so it’s going to be bumpy and tough. This is expert-only territory at that size. It’s a beach break, so that long-period groundswell (14 seconds) will be closing out fast, but for the crew who can handle it, there will be some heavy, powerful drops.
After that, the swell drops back into the 3-to-4-foot range through the end of July and into the first of August, but the wind never really gets right. It stays cross-onshore or onshore. The water temp is about average for the season.
Bottom line: Saturday the 25th is the one to circle if you’re an expert looking for a heavy, powerful session, but don’t expect it to be glassy. The rest of the window is a grind for marginal, sloppy waves. If you’re a kiter, that bumpy, strong energy on the 25th looks a lot more fun than a paddle.
