Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Torrey Pines over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get real about the next few weeks at North Torrey Pines. Straight up, the first week is a tough one for paddle surfing. We’ve got a long, flat gap with nothing worthwhile on offer from Thursday the 9th of July right through to the 18th of July. The swell is tiny, the wind is mostly cross-on, and the energy is weak. Honestly, it’s a write-off for a surfer looking for a proper session.
The only real standout in this whole 16-day window lands on Sunday the 19th of July. The ocean finally wakes up. A solid swell rolls in from the S, pushing nearly 6ft with a period of 14 seconds. The combined energy is strong (1579), and even though the wind is a cross-on SW breeze, the size and power will make it a proper session. This is one for the experienced crew – 6ft is getting into the fun zone, but it’s not crazy. The water is sitting at 71°F which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, so that’s a nice surprise.
After that spike, things settle back down quick. The 20th and 21st of July drop back to 3ft to 4ft, still with cross-on wind, and the energy drops back to moderate levels. It’s a notch below the Sunday stand-out, but still a sight better than the first week. The 22nd and 23rd look like more of the same – small, onshore slop for the most part.
If you’re a beginner, skip the first week entirely. The 19th of July might be a bit much for you at 6ft, but the following days from the 20th to the 24th are more your size, though the wind will be a factor. For the more experienced, the 19th is the only day that really gets the heart pumping. It’s a long-range call, so don’t book the time off just yet, but keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
