S-Turns Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for S-Turns over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough stretch. The forecast is showing a real dry spell for S-Turns, a sandbar that needs a bit of love to get going. We’re looking at a long gap of several days with no real surf to speak of. The first whiff of anything rideable doesn't pop up until Wednesday morning, August 5th, and even then it’s a struggle.

Wednesday morning, August 5th, we get a sniff of something with a 4ft swell from the south, but it’s only a 6-second period, so it’s weak and wobbly. The combined energy is moderate at best (295), and with a cross-off shore wind from the SW at 12 mph, it’s clean but not powerful. The score on it is low, so it’s a session for the diehards only.

The rest of that first week and into the second is pretty grim. The swell drops right off. Thursday the 6th through to Wednesday the 12th, we’re looking at tiny waves – mostly under 2ft – with flukey winds. The combined energy is weak, often in the double digits or low hundreds. Even when the wind goes glassy on Wednesday afternoon, August 12th, with a light NW breeze, there’s just no swell to ride – only 0.7ft.

We finally see a slight pulse on Thursday, August 13th, with a 3ft south swell, but it’s short period (6 seconds) and the wind is onshore and messy. It’s not until Friday, August 14th, that we get something that’s actually surfable, though still very ordinary. The swell is a tiny 2ft from the south, period still short, but the wind swings light out of the NNW, giving us clean conditions. The combined energy is weak (51), but if you’re desperate, it’s the best we’ve got all week.

After that, it’s back to small, choppy junk for the rest of the 16-day window. The wind is mostly cross or onshore, and the swell never gets above 3ft. There’s nothing here that stands out as a true winner. The water temp is a normal 80° for the time of year, so at least you won’t freeze while you’re scratching around for nothing.

Honestly, if you’re dead set on a paddle, Friday morning August 14th is your only real shot, and even then, keep your expectations on the floor. For the rest of the run, this setup looks more interesting for a kite than a surfboard, given the lack of power and the persistent cross-shore winds.
