The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a wave around here. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak surf and very ordinary conditions. The first week is basically a write-off, and the second week doesn’t offer much more.
For the first few days, from Wednesday the 15th through to the end of the weekend, we’re looking at ankle-snappers to knee-high slop. The swell energy is basically non-existent, sitting at just 28 (for the combined energy of all swells directed here) on Wednesday morning, and mostly dropping into single digits after that. Wind is a mixed bag, but with no swell to work with, it doesn’t matter. The water temp is about average for the time of year, but that’s about the only thing that’s normal.
The following week, from Monday the 21st through to the end of the month, is more of the same. There’s a tiny blip of hope on Thursday the 23rd morning, with a 2ft swell from the ESE and a period of 8 seconds, and a weak energy reading of 41. The wind will be light offshore from the WSW, making it clean, but it’s still only surfable waves but very ordinary conditions. The same goes for Sunday the 26th morning: a 3ft ESE swell, with a period of 7 seconds, and energy of 61, but it’s still weak and the wind is likely to junk it up by afternoon.
Honestly, for the whole 16 days, there’s no standout. The best you’ll find is a fleeting window of clean, knee-high mush on the 23rd or 26th morning. The swell is too small and weak for any real power, and the break is exposed to the NNE, so we aren’t even getting the direction right. The setup is more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, with the wind and tiny waves.
Hold tight, check back in a few days. Forecasts can change.
Rusty.
