Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let me tell you straight – it’s been a tough stretch here at Jax Beach Pier. For a solid week, from Saturday the 4th through Friday the 10th, the surf is pretty much flat or blown out. We’re looking at a real dry spell. Tiny 0.7ft to 1ft slop, mostly short-period stuff, with onshore winds and funky conditions. Not worth paddling out. Even the mornings that are clean are too small to do anything on.
The first flicker of something rideable shows up on Wednesday morning, July 8th. We get a tiny 2ft swell from the ESE, with a period of 8 seconds. Combined wave energy is weak at only 50 (49), but for the first time, the wind is light, cross-off, and the conditions are clean. It’s still small and ordinary, so grab a longboard if you’re desperate.
Thursday morning, July 9th, is a little better – 2ft of ESE swell, with a period of 9 seconds, and a gentle offshore breeze. The combined energy is still low (49), but the surface will be glassy. Again, not a stand-out, but a moment of clean, tiny waves.
The next real glimmer comes Saturday the 11th? Nah, flat again. Sunday the 12th though – we get two sessions. Morning and afternoon both offer 2ft from the ESE at 8 seconds. Combined energy creeps up to 44 (42 in the afternoon). Winds are light to gentle, cross-off, and the conditions remain clean. It’s still marginal, but it’s the most consistent day in the whole window. Don’t expect much power – the energy is only moderate (44) – but the wave comment calls it “surfable waves but very ordinary.”
After that, it’s back to tiny or messy conditions right through to the end of the outlook on Sunday, July 19th. Several mornings offer clean, glassy surfaces, and a few have a light offshore, but the swell is just too small – typically 1.0ft to 2ft and short-period. The afternoons get choppy with cross-shore winds. There’s no real standout surf in this entire 16-day forecast. If you’re a beginner, the cleanest mornings with the smallest waves might be a place to learn the pop-up, but anyone wanting a proper wave will be waiting.
Honestly, with such weak, small swell and mostly clean but gutless conditions, this is more of a swim or a paddleboard session than anything you’d paddle out for on a surfboard. A beach break setup like this, with these tiny waves and mostly light winds, just doesn’t offer much. The best on offer is Sunday, July 12th – both morning and afternoon – for the most consistency, but even then, don’t expect a wave over knee-high.
