The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what the next couple of weeks are serving up at Jax Beach Pier. Gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty flat and weak for a long stretch, but there’s a little glimmer of hope way out there.
Right now and for most of the next week, we're in a real slow patch. The swell is tiny, mostly around 1ft to 2ft from the ESE, with energy readings barely getting out of the 20s or 30s (41 to 72). That's just not enough to get excited about. The winds are often cross-off or even offshore, which would be perfect if there was any swell to work with, but there just isn't. Wednesday the 19th gives us a clean 2ft swell with a 10-second period and a light offshore breeze, but it’s really just a bump on the water. A few days in there, like the 24th, see the swell bump to 4ft, but it’s from the SE with a short 4-second period and cross-onshore wind – that’s choppy, messy, and not worth your time.
We’ve got a significant gap with no real recommendations from the 18th all the way through the 25th. It’s just not happening.
Now, if you’re patient, things start to get interesting as we head into the end of the first week of September. Wednesday morning the 26th of August, we finally see some life. The swell is still small at 1ft, but it’s got a long 16-second period and the combined energy jumps to 109. The wind is light and offshore from the SW, keeping it glassy clean. It’s surfable, but nothing special yet.
The standout, the one to circle on your calendar, is Thursday the 27th of August. By the afternoon, we’re looking at 2ft of groundswell from the ESE with a 13-second period. The combined energy hits 213 (moderate wave energy), and we’ve got a clean, glassy setup with cross-off winds from the WSW. This is the best on offer – clean lines, decent push for the size, and the longer period means better shaped waves. That said, at this size, it’s still very much a longboard or funboard wave. It won’t be too big for beginners. There’s no info on crowds, but Jax Beach Pier can get a crew, so be ready to share.
After that, Friday the 28th holds onto some clean 2ft surf with an 11-second period and light offshore winds in the afternoon, but the energy drops off. Then we’re back into a run of poor conditions through the end of the month and into September, with onshore winds and choppy water taking over.
Keep an eye on that Thursday the 27th. The long-range call is promising, but it’s still a bit out, so don’t book the day off just yet.
Stay wet,
Rusty
