The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, but this time in feet and degrees. The water is a balmy 85°F, which is normal for the season, nothing to write home about.
The first week and a half is a write-off. Starting Tuesday the 18th of August, we're looking at tiny waves, around 1ft to 2ft from the ESE, with a short period of 8 to 10 seconds. The energy is weak, in the 40s and 50s. It’s surfable, but barely. Winds are mostly cross-off or glassy in the mornings, which would keep it clean, but there’s just no push. By Wednesday afternoon, it’s flat.
From Thursday the 21st through the 24th, the forecast is calling it poor. We’re talking waves under 1ft, energy in the teens. Friday afternoon shows a 3ft wave from the SE, but with a 4-second period – that’s just wind chop. Don’t bother. The mornings have offshore winds, which is a pity because it’s clean on a flat ocean.
We’ve got a stretch of several days with no real surf.
Now, the end of the run. Around Wednesday the 26th of August, we see a pulse. The morning has a tiny 0.7ft wave but with a very long period of 18 seconds from the ESE. The energy bumps up to 52. It’s a signal. Then Thursday the 27th of August afternoon, the swell hits 4ft from the ESE with a 13-second period, and the energy jumps to 624. That’s a solid, strong pulse. The wind is cross-off from the SSW, so it’ll be clean. That’s the standout of the whole 16 days. The swell direction is ESE, which is close to the optimum for this break, so it’ll wrap in nicely.
The following Saturday the 29th of August morning is also a goer. We’ve got 2ft from the ESE, energy at 218, and a clean offshore wind from the WSW. It’s smaller, but it’s clean and consistent.
Monday the 31st of August morning is glassy, with 2ft from the E, but the energy is only 47. Not a standout.
So, your best window is Thursday the 27th of August. That afternoon session with the 4ft ESE swell, long period, and clean wind is your best bet. It’s not a beginner wave, but it’s surfable. The rest is a grind.
Rusty.
