Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at Jax Beach are looking pretty flat and uninspiring. We've got a long stretch of tiny, weak waves and not much on the horizon to get excited about. The water is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, sitting at 85°.
We kick off Saturday afternoon, the 4th of July, with next to nothing – just 1ft of weak, short-period ESE swell with a cross-shore wind. The energy is a measly (36). It's a no-go. Sunday the 5th morning is cleaner with a light offshore, but the swell drops to 1.0ft and the energy is even lower (17). It's basically a lake.
This flat spell drags on. Monday the 6th, Tuesday the 7th, and Wednesday the 8th are all offering less than 1.0ft of swell, if anything at all. You'll be staring at a glassy ocean with zero bump. There's a tiny blip on Wednesday afternoon the 8th – a 3ft south-east chop with a period of 5 seconds, but it's messy and the energy is still weak (49). It's surfable, but only just, and conditions are pretty ordinary.
The pattern holds through the end of the first week and into the second. Thursday the 9th sees a 4ft SE windswell in the afternoon, but it's accompanied by a moderate cross-shore and a period of just 5 seconds. The energy climbs to (73), but it's poor quality. Friday the 10th is a repeat – 4ft of the same sloppy SE windswell in the afternoon (84 energy). The mornings are cleaner but with tiny, knee-high nothing waves.
Honestly, there's a big gap of several days with no real recommendations. From the 11th through the 13th, it's all 0.3ft to 2ft of weak, low-energy swell. The best you can hope for from the 13th to the 15th is a few 2ft to 2ft waves with a bit more period (8-9 seconds), but the energy is still paltry (41-85). The wind switches around, keeping things mostly clean, but the swell just isn't there.
The 15th of July sees the energy finally tick up to a (104) in the afternoon with a 2ft ESE swell, but it's crossed-up and messy. That's still not a surfable wave for anyone wanting a real ride. The rest of the run through the 19th of July is a total write-off – tiny 1.0ft to 1ft waves with basically no energy.
So, the picture is grim. A whole lot of flat, clean but empty water. If you're desperate for a paddle, you might find a knee-high ripple on a few mornings with a light offshore, but that's it. For the next two weeks, the only standout is a lack of surf. Don't hold your breath.
Rusty.
