Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you right off the bat. We’re looking at a long stretch ahead for Jax Beach Pier, and it’s a tough one. There's nothing that’s really going to get the heart pumping. We're in for a flat spell at the start, and honestly, the first solid chance you’d want to even bother paddling out for isn’t until Wednesday the 8th, and even that is a struggle.
The water temp is sitting at a warm 85°, which is about 2° warmer than usual for this time of year, so it’s a bit balmy in the water, but that’s not going to fix the swell.
We start off Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th with tiny, weak energy—the combined energy is only around 21 on Sunday (weak) and 13 on Monday morning. The wind is cross or light offshore, but the swell is just pathetic—1ft to 3ft with a short period of 4 to 8 seconds. There's no push, no shape. Just a lake.
Tuesday the 7th is more of the same—small, weak, and mostly cross-off winds. The energy creeps up to 32 Tuesday afternoon, but it’s still a 3ft SE swell with a 4-second period. That’s windswell junk. Not worth your time.
Then we hit Wednesday morning the 8th. This is the closest thing to a highlight I can give you. The combined energy finally gets into a moderate range at 58. Swell is 2ft from the ESE with an 8-second period, and we’ve got a light WSW breeze giving us clean conditions. It’s surfable, but it’s ordinary. This is a beginner-friendly spot by nature, and at that size, it’s safe, but don't expect any grunt in the waves. The direction is SE, which is cross to the pier, so keep expectations low.
After that, we run into a long gap. From Thursday the 9th through to Saturday the 12th, the swell stays tiny or drops out completely. The energy readings are weak—between 0 and 61—and the period stays short. There’s a chance on Sunday morning the 12th with glassy conditions and a 2ft, 8-second ESE swell. The combined energy is 42 (weak), so it’s a small clean session for a log or a foamie, but nothing to write home about.
From the 13th through to the 20th, it’s pretty grim. The swell barely reaches 1ft most days, with occasional offshore winds, but the energy is weak (ranging 6 to 41). The period is mostly 8 to 9 seconds, so there's no real groundswell push. You’ll see some clean conditions on the 14th with a moderate offshore wind, but the swell is just too small to be fun on a standard shortboard. This is kite-surfing weather, not paddle surfing. The setup here at a beach/pier break in these conditions favors folks with kites, not paddles.
So overall, if you’re desperate for a splash, Wednesday morning the 8th is your best bet, and maybe Sunday the 12th for a glassy small-wave cruise. Otherwise, save the wax for another time. The season’s in a lull, and forecasts can always change, but right now, this is a flat run.
Rusty.
