Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got coming up for Jax Beach Pier over the next couple of weeks, and I’ll be straight with you—it’s a tough spell for anyone looking to get wet.
This 16-day run is mostly a flat spell with very little to get excited about. We’ve got a long gap right at the start with no real surf on offer. The first few days are all showing poor conditions and tiny energy levels, so don’t even bother paddling out until we get to the second weekend.
Friday, 3rd July kicks things off with weak 2 ft swell from the east and a short period of 9 seconds, but the wind is a messy 10 km/h onshore and it’s just poor. Afternoon gets worse—20 km/h cross-onshore and even smaller. The combined energy is only 87 (weak) in the morning and drops to 63 in the afternoon. Not worth a look.
Saturday 4th July morning is glassy, which is rare, but the swell is only 1 ft from the ESE, period 9 seconds, and the energy is just 40 (very weak). It’s “surfable waves but very ordinary” according to the call, and I’d say that’s generous. For a beginner, maybe a longboard session, but there’s nothing here for anyone else. The water temp is 85°, which is about 2° warmer than average for this time of year—so it’s a little warm, but that’s about it.
From there it’s basically a desert. Sunday 5th through to Saturday 11th July barely have anything. Some mornings have a clean offshore breeze, but the swell drops to 1 ft or even 0.3 ft, periods are short, and the energy values sit mostly between 2 and 29 (very weak). There’s a brief moment on Monday 6th afternoon with 4 ft from the SE, but it’s a 4-second period windswell with 49 energy, and the wind is cross-offshore at 25 km/h—clean, but junk waves. That pattern repeats Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th afternoons with similar 4 ft, short-period, 41-68 energy slop.
By Sunday 12th and into the middle of the second week, we hit a dead zone. Several days with zero swell and zero energy. The 13th gives a slight pulse—2 ft from the ESE, 8 seconds, 41 energy Monday morning with light wind—but it’s still classed as “poor surf conditions.” Not a standout, just a blink.
Tuesday 14th morning is glassy again with 1 ft and 32 energy. Still poor.
After that, it’s all zeros and tiny junk through to Saturday 18th.
Honestly, there is no true standout session here. The best on offer would be Saturday 4th July morning for absolute beginners who just want a glassy, knee-high push, or maybe Monday 13th July morning if you’re desperate and just need salt water. But this is a long, flat run. For a spot that’s normally consistent, it’s a real letdown.
Keep the board in the car, but don’t hold your breath. Forecasts can change, so check back in a few days.
