The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be honest, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for most of us. The models are showing a long stretch of flat, weak conditions that’s going to test your patience. We’re looking at a real dry spell here.
Jax Beach Pier is the only game in town, and it’s a tough one. The water is sitting at a warm 84°, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
We start off with a tease on Friday, July 17th. The morning is glassy, dead calm, with a tiny 1ft ESE windswell. The combined energy is a measly 15, so it’s barely even moving. The afternoon gets a bit of a cross-shore chop, but it’s still tiny. Honestly, this is a board-fiddling day, not a paddling day.
Then the plug gets pulled. From Saturday, July 18th all the way through to Tuesday, July 21st, it’s pretty much flat. A few days of zero energy and clean but surf-less conditions. You’ll be staring at a lake.
We get a tiny pulse of life on Tuesday afternoon, July 21st with a 4ft swell from the SE, but look at that period – a snappy 4 seconds. The energy is a weak 51, and it’s still flagged as poor surf. That’s a short-period, junky windswell that won’t have any push.
The doldrums return through Wednesday and Thursday, July 22nd and 23rd, with only a whisper of a 3ft SE swell on Thursday afternoon. The energy is only 20. It’s clean but it’s a sad, weak little wave.
We get a few more of these tiny, short-period pulses through the end of July and into the start of August, but nothing cracks the 4ft mark. The best looking window might be Friday, July 31st morning, where the wind is dead calm, glassy, and we have a 2ft ESE swell. The energy is a bit healthier at 27, but it’s still a weak, short-period (5 seconds) windswell that’s not going to wrap in with any power.
Bottom line: There’s no standout session here. It’s a long stretch of flat to marginal conditions. For a beginner, the tiny, clean waves on the 31st morning might be a place to learn to pop up, but for anyone looking for a real wave, this is a two-week gap in the action. The setup looks more interesting for a flat-water paddle than a surf.
