The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, checkin' in for the local surf outlook. We're lookin' at a pretty bleak 16-day window for Bethany, I gotta be honest with you. The first bit of surf that's even worth paddlin' out for is a long way off, so we've got a big gap of poor conditions to sit through first.
The water temperature is sittin' at about 74°, which is pretty much what you'd expect for this time of year—nothing weird there.
The first real tease of a wave doesn't show up until Monday, August 3rd. Even then, it's a messy setup. We've got a pulse of 4ft swell from the SSE, but the period is a short 8 seconds, so it's gonna be weak and disorganized. The combined energy is moderate at 196, but it's all blown out by a fresh breeze. That's a no-go for a paddle board.
The real standout, the only one worth gettin' even a little excited about, is Saturday, August 8th. We're talkin' about a solid 4ft swell from the SSE, and the key here is the wind. It's a gentle offshore from the SSW, which means clean, glassy lines. The energy is moderate at 197, short period at 7 seconds keeps it from being epic, but for a beginner-friendly beach/jetty spot like Bethany, that's a fun little wave. It's consistent, so you'll get a few. Just keep in mind that crowds are possible here, so get there early.
Other than that, the rest of the second week is a write-off. We get a bump of 5ft on the Sunday afternoon, but with a fresh cross-offshore and a short period, it's gonna be a messy, lumpy mess. Everything else is just tiny ankle-biters with poor wind. It's a tough run, but it tends not to stay this poor for long around here, and the forecasts can change. Keep your eyes peeled.
Rusty, out.
