The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's size up the situation for Bethany over the next couple of weeks.

I gotta be straight with you, it's looking pretty bleak. The first real chance to get wet is on Thursday morning, September 3rd. We're looking at a tiny 2ft swell from the SE with a short 9-second period. The combined energy is a measly 57. It's surfable, but just barely. The wind is offshore from the SW, which is a big plus for keeping the surface clean. The water is much warmer than what's normal for this time of year, at 77°.

The rest of that first week is a total loss. Friday the 4th drops to a 1ft wave, and Saturday the 5th is a complete disaster with a strong onshore wind from the North at 19 mph, whipping up a 2ft windswell with a period of only 4 seconds. The energy is 39, and it's just a choppy mess.

We get a slight glimmer on Monday morning, September 7th. There's a 2ft swell from the ENE with a 9-second period, paired with a light S wind that's cross-off, keeping it clean. The energy is a weak 74. It's a tiny window for a tiny, clean wave. The following Tuesday morning, the 8th, offers a similar small window with a 2ft E swell and a clean offshore wind from the SW.

After that, the plug is pulled. From Wednesday the 9th all the way through the end of the 16-day forecast, the swell stays below 1ft. The combined energy drops into the single digits and low teens. There's a moment on Saturday the 12th where the swell bumps up to 3ft and it's dead glassy, but the period is a terrible 5 seconds, making it a weak, crumbly 3ft wave with an energy of only 50.

The only standout, and it's a weak one, is Thursday morning, September 3rd. It's a 2ft SE swell with a 9-second period, and those offshore winds from the SW will make it look as clean as anything in the forecast. The water is much warmer than normal, but the size is just not there. It's a beginner-friendly wave, but there's no power.

For anyone after a real wave, this is a dead run. Bethany is a consistent spot, but it just doesn't have the swell to work with for the next two weeks. Forecasts can change, but right now there's nothing to get excited about. The setup is so small and weak, it's hardly worth mentioning for any kind of paddle board.
