The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get stuck into what's on the cards for Bethany.
Right off the bat, we're looking at a pretty quiet run for the next week and a half or so. The swell is tiny, the winds are mostly cross or onshore, and honestly, there's not much to get excited about. We’ve got a solid stretch from now until the 18th of August where the waves are just too small and weak. You wouldn’t bother paddling out.
Things start to stir on the morning of Wednesday the 19th of August. Nothing to fly the flag for, but we get a tiny pulse of swell from the ESE. It’s only 1ft with a period of 14 seconds – that's a long-period groundswell for such a small wave. Combined energy is just 102 (weak), and while the wind is light and cross-off, making for clean conditions, it's not going to give you much to push down the line. Still, for a beginner spot that’s mostly flat, it’s a window where you could get wet and catch a few.
That little blip fades quickly, and we slide back into poor surf until the 24th of August. On Monday the 24th, we get another chance. The swell picks up slightly to 2ft from the east with a 7-second period. Light cross-off wind means it'll be clean, but the energy is still weak (73). For Bethany, a beach/jetty setup that's usually consistent but small, this is about as good as it’s likely to get in this outlook. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no worries there.
To be honest, nothing here is a true standout. It's a long, flat grind with just a couple of tiny windows that might be worth a session for the keenest. If you absolutely must get wet, the mornings of the 19th and 24th are your best bet, but don't expect much.
Rusty.
