Bethany Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the next couple of weeks for Bethany.

Honestly, it’s a tough stretch. The surf is going to be small and mostly disappointing for the next 16 days, with no standouts to get excited about. There’s a real gap in quality here, with long periods of nothing worthwhile. The first few days are a write-off. Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 are just poor, with onshore winds and weak, short-period swell under 3 ft. Not worth paddling out.

Monday 27 July is the first time you might even consider it. We’ve got an early morning glass-off with a light SE wind and a tiny 1 ft wave from the ESE at 8 seconds. The combined swell energy is a weak 45. It’s surfable but very ordinary. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing special there.

The quiet continues through the week. Wednesday 29 July morning sees a little bump with 3 ft from the SSE, but the swell period is a short 7 seconds and combined energy only reaches 95. It’s clean thanks to a cross-offshore WNW wind, but again, it’s just very ordinary. After that, it’s back to tiny, messy conditions. The wind stays cross or cross-offshore for the rest of the week, but the swell is just too small to do anything with.

Looking into the first week of August, it’s pretty grim. We get a couple of 3 ft pulses from the SSE on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4, but with cross-onshore winds and choppy conditions, it’s not surfable. The combined energy barely cracks 86. The only other glimmer is Wednesday 5 August morning, with a clean 3 ft from the SSE, but the period is a short 6 seconds and combined energy is only 71. It’s clean but gutless.

The second week is even quieter. From Thursday 6 August through to Sunday 9 August, the swell drops away completely. The best you’ll see is 3 ft on Thursday morning with a moderate onshore breeze and a combined energy of just 57. It’s not worth suiting up. The water stays average temperature-wise.

For a beginner looking for a tiny, clean wave, Monday 27 July morning is the only real option, but it’s not a standout. For everyone else, this is a long, flat spell. The setup is so weak and often windy that it might be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Keep an eye on the forecasts, because it tends not to stay this poor for long.
