The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk Bethany over the next few weeks. Honestly, it’s a tough stretch. From Thursday, August 6th through to Thursday, August 20th, there’s a massive gap with no real surf. That’s two full weeks of tiny, weak waves and poor conditions.
The only day that shows any life is Friday, August 21st. Bethany (beach/jetty) sees a 0.8m swell from the SSE, with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy clocks in at 59, which is still weak, but it’s the best we get. The big win is the wind: glassy in the morning. That means clean, smooth waves. For a beginner-friendly spot, this is as good as it gets with this size. The swell is only 3 ft, so it’s easy-going. The period is short, so don’t expect much push, but it will be fun and rideable. The afternoon drops to 0.7m (2 ft) from the same direction, with a light cross-shore wind, so it stays clean but a little less perfect.
So, if you’re going to paddle out at all, make it Friday the 21st. It’s not a standout in the big sense, but it’s the only window. The water is about 75°F, which is normal for this time of year. It’s a long wait, but sometimes that’s how it goes.
Rusty.
