Bethany Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ at Bethany.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the surf is pretty damn quiet for nearly two weeks. There’s a big ol’ gap of nothing good, with just small, messy, or onshore junk. We’re not really looking at anything worth paddling out for until late in the run. The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Thursday the 24th of September, so you’ve got about 10 days of waiting before things finally turn on.

Let’s be honest, the first week and a half is a write-off. We’ve got tiny windswell, howling onshores, and a lot of “poor surf conditions” in the data. You’d be better off doing yard work. The water temp is sitting at 77°, which is way warmer than normal for this time of year – feels more like summer than early autumn, but it doesn’t matter much when there’s no waves to play in.

The big story, and the only real standout, hits on Thursday the 24th. That morning we finally get a bit of luck. The wind drops out completely – glassy conditions. The swell comes up to a solid 7 ft out of the east-northeast (ENE), with moderate energy (530). It’s a bit on the bigger side, so beginners might want to sit this one out, but for everyone else, it’s the cleanest we’ve seen. The glassy surface is a major win.

The afternoon of Thursday the 24th steps it up even more. Swell builds to 8 ft from the east (E), and the energy jumps to 1138 – that’s moderate to strong energy. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the south-southeast (SSE), keeping it clean. This is excellent for experienced surfers, with plenty of power.

Now, Friday the 25th is a beast, but it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. The morning shows a 10 ft east swell with a period of 10 seconds and massive energy (1954). The wind is light and cross-offshore – perfect conditions. But here’s the kicker: at 10 ft, this is getting serious. It’s definitely too big for most, and it’s a beach/jetty setup, so big east swells can close out or get shifty. The afternoon stays at 10 ft with an 11-second period and energy hitting 2023. This is for experts only. The water will be heavy. If you’ve got the skills and the board, it could be a session to remember, but it’s not a day for the faint-hearted.

After that, the wind shifts back onshore on Saturday the 26th and the quality drops off again, so that Thursday and Friday are your golden window.

The bottom line: if you’ve got patience, Bethany delivers a couple of cracking days right at the tail end of the forecast. The glassy Thursday morning and the big, clean Friday are the ones to circle. Everything before that is a skunk.
