The Lowdown
Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Bethany over the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it’s a pretty grim stretch for us right now. We’ve got a long, flat start to the outlook. The first surf of any real note doesn’t really show up until much later.
From now, we’re looking at over a week of nothing worth paddling out for. Little dribbles of swell here and there, but the quality is just not there. The wind is all over the place, mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the energy is weak.
Now, there is one period that’s a bit of a standout, but you’ve got to be patient. Around Wednesday, the 2nd of September, the morning brings a bit of hope. We’ve got a 1ft swell from the SE with a period of 11 seconds. That’s a nice, long period groundswell. The wind is light and offshore from the SSW, so that’ll keep things clean and glassy. The combined energy is still on the lower side at 51, but for Bethany, that’s one of the better windows in this whole forecast. It’s a small wave, but clean, and for those on a log or a mini-mal, it’ll be alright for a gentle morning session. Just keep in mind the crowd situation at Bethany can be a thing sometimes.
After that, it gets messy again. The 3rd of September sees a bump in swell height to 4ft from the NE, but it’s a short period 6-second wind swell and cross-onshore wind, so it’s not going to be any good. That energy number jumps up to 116, but the quality is just poor.
The rest of the second week into September stays pretty ordinary. There’s a morning on the 4th with 3ft from the ENE and moderate cross-onshore winds, giving a moderate energy reading of 106, but it’s choppy and not worth getting excited about. The 5th and 6th are onshore and messy. The 7th is more of the same.
Into the second week, we’ve got a few more days of small surf and mostly tricky winds. The morning of the 9th of September has a 1ft SE swell with a 10 second period and a cross-offshore wind, which is clean, but it’s tiny. The 10th offers a clean morning with a light offshore wind and a 1ft SE swell with a 9 second period, but again, very small and ordinary.
In the end, if you’re desperate for a paddle, the morning of Wednesday, the 2nd of September, is your best bet. It’s small, but clean. Otherwise, you’re waiting a long time.
