Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Bethany is serving up for the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – the first week and a half is a real scratch for surf. We’re looking at a lot of days where the ocean is just flat or messy.
The whole run kicks off on Sunday, July 5th, and honestly, it’s a bit of a dud. Early morning is glassy and clear, but the swell is a piddly 1.0ft from the ESE. The energy is weak (14), and nobody’s getting excited about that. The pick of a pretty bad bunch looks to be late in the window.
We’re looking at a long, frustrating gap where the surf just isn’t happening. From the start all the way through to the middle of the month, the calls are "poor surf conditions." Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th see some bumpy, onshore wind and the swell stays tiny. The wind is a problem for days, either straight onshore or cross-on, chopping up any hope of a wave. It’s not until Tuesday, July 14th that we finally get a glimmer. The morning shows a 4ft swell from the east, with 175 units of energy (moderate). It’s described as "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." At least the wind has switched to a light cross-offshore, keeping the surface clean. We still wouldn't call it a standout, though.
The real moment of truth looks like it’s on Saturday morning, July 18th. We see a bump in swell to 4ft from the SSE, with the combined energy climbing to a solid 196 (moderate). But what’s got my heart rate up is the wind: a light offshore breeze from the SSW. That is the ticket for clean, peeling lines at Bethany. The commentary says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," but with that offsh, I’d be in the water. It’s the best shape we’ve seen in this entire forecast period.
Then Sunday morning, July 19th, looks like the other little highlight. It’s a bit smaller at 3ft from the SSE, energy down to 135, but again we’ve got a gentle offshore breeze from the WSW to keep it clean. It’s not going to be huge, but it’ll be fun and clean.
Overall, this is a tough outlook for us. The wait is long and the quality is mostly poor until that second weekend. But if you can wait, that Saturday the 18th has a chance to deliver something special with that offshore wind and a bit of push.
Stay patient, and keep an eye on the sky.
