The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and let’s talk about Bethany. Honestly, I’m looking at the full 16 days and it’s a pretty bleak stretch for the surf here. The first chunk of the forecast is filled with small, weak, choppy conditions and there’s barely a wave worth paddling for. The first actual surfable moments don’t show up until Tuesday morning, September 1st, and even then it’s just barely enough to get wet.
The water temp is sitting right around average for the time of year, so nothing wild there.
Overall pattern: week one is a total write-off. We’re looking at peewee swells, mostly under 2 ft, with short periods and a lot of wind messing things up. The first ten days are basically a no-go zone. A few afternoons go clean, but the swell is so small there’s nothing to ride.
The only real standout in the whole period is Tuesday morning, September 1st at Bethany (United States). This is a beginner-friendly beach/jetty spot that’s fairly consistent. Around 2 ft of swell from the SSE with a short period, but it’s clean thanks to a gentle offshore breeze from the SW. The combined wave energy is weak at 51, but after two weeks of nothing, this is the best we’ve got. The offshore wind will make these little waves smooth and fun for a longboard or a foamie. Crowds are possible here, so don’t expect an empty lineup.
After that, it’s a mix of clean conditions but still tiny swell until Friday morning, September 4th, when we see another small bump: 3 ft from the SSE, again with a short period, but clean offshore winds. The energy is still weak (55) but it’s surfable. That morning is the other option worth mentioning.
The rest of the second week fades back into small, weak, or choppy surf. No big swell, no long-period groundswell, just a long, flat run.
So, if you’re keen, mark your calendar for Tuesday morning, September 1st, or Friday morning, September 4th. The rest of the time, you might as well find something else to do.
