Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s talk in feet and miles per hour. Rusty here, and this forecast for Jenkinsons (Point Pleasant Beach) is a tough read.
Over the whole 16-day stretch, there just isn’t a single session that’s worth chasing. It’s a long dry spell. The wind is the main villain – mostly cross-onshore, choppy, and lumpy. Even when a little swell pops up, the wind kills it.
The water’s running about 73°F on that first Sunday, which is about 4°F above the norm for this time of year – noticeably warmer, but the waves aren’t cooperating at all.
On Monday morning July 6th, we get a glassy window with only 3ft of south swell, but the period’s a measly 5 seconds – basically wind slop. Not real surf.
The biggest swell hits Tuesday July 7th: around 5ft from the ENE with a combined swell energy reading of 225 (moderate). But with a fresh cross-onshore wind at 19 mph, it’s lumpy and blown out. That’s a day where the setup looks more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers.
When the wind finally goes light or offshore in the middle of the month, the swell disappears – down to 1ft or less, with weak energy readings like 14 to 78. You’d be floating, not riding.
Even the late period on July 16th afternoon shows a 3ft south swell with a moderate offshore breeze, but it’s still only rated as “surfable but very ordinary.” Not worth the drive.
No standouts. No hidden gems. Just a long stretch of flat, windy, or messy conditions. It’s a normal quiet spell for this area – forecasts can always change, but right now? Stay home.
