Table - best surf conditions forecast for Jenkinsons (Point Pleasant Beach) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, ol’ Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. This outlook for the next 16 days is a tough one to swallow. We’re looking at a long, flat stretch, and the only real glimmer of hope is a very small window, and even then, it’s nothing to write home about.
First up, we’ve got Jenkinsons (Point Pleasant Beach). The water temp is sitting at 72°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a bit of a silver lining. But the surf? Man, it’s a struggle. We start off with a few days of tiny, weak swell. The combined energy is barely a whisper, sitting in the 70s and 60s for July 8th and 9th, with messy cross-shore winds. It’s not looking good at all.
We’ve got a big gap of nothingness here. The first week is basically a write-off. The swell is small, the wind is mostly rubbish, and the quality is poor. You’ll be staring at a lake.
Now, let’s talk about the one potential highlight. It’s not a classic, but it’s the best we’ve got. On Tuesday morning, July 14th, we get a brief moment of glassy conditions. The wind drops to a slight air, going glassy, and we’ve got a small 3 ft swell from the SE. The combined energy is still weak at 65. It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary. The period is a short 7 seconds, so it’s going to be a bit fat and weak. For the advanced crew, this is a chance to get a few grovelly ones, but don’t expect much. The rest of that week is just more of the same small, messy stuff.
The second week gets even worse. From July 16th through to the 23rd, we’re looking at swell heights barely cracking 1 ft, with periods all over the place. The combined energy drops into the single digits and teens. There’s a moment on the 20th where we get a bit of a bump to 3 ft, but it’s a short-period, wind-affected mess from the NE. The wind is onshore or cross-shore, making things choppy. It’s not worth paddling out for.
The only other thing to note is a glassy moment on the morning of July 20th, with a 3 ft swell from the NE, but the period is a pathetic 4 seconds. That’s just wind chop. It’s a tough run.
So, to sum it up: the only real chance is Tuesday morning, July 14th, at Jenkinsons. It’s small, it’s weak, but it’s glassy. If you’re desperate, you might get a few. Otherwise, save your energy and wait for a better forecast. This stretch looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle.
Rusty.
