Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into what's happening for the next couple of weeks around North Myrtle. It's a pretty flat start right now, but there might be a small window to watch out for.
For the first week on the calendar, there’s just not much to get excited about. We’re looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak swell – we're talking knee-high at best, mostly 0.7ft to 1ft from the southeast. The wave energy is barely registering, with numbers like 23 (weak) and it won't really push past that until the middle of next week. The wind is all over the shop, mostly cross-onshore or straight onshore, with some afternoon storms making it messy. Honestly, from the 13th right through to the 19th of July, the surf report is a tough read for anyone wanting to paddle out.
Now, if you’re patient, there’s a bit of a teaser on Monday the 20th of July. It’s not going to set the world on fire, but it’s the standout of the whole run. We’ll see a small bump in swell to about 4ft, picking up to 6ft in the afternoon, all coming from the SSW. The wave energy (247) is finally moderate and the key thing here is the wind. It’s set to go glassy – absolute dead calm, both morning and afternoon. That’s a major positive. The water temp is sitting around 85°F, feeling a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. It’ll be a slow, fun-sized wave at North Myrtle/27th Avenue South, perfect for a longboard or a funboard. Just keep in mind, this spot does get crowded often, so get there early if you can.
But honestly, that’s about it for the next 16 days. The run after the 20th flattens out again very quickly by the 21st. There’s another tiny pulse on the 22nd, but the wind is straight onshore and strong at 19 mph, making it a write-off. The rest of the period into the end of July looks like more of the same – tiny seas and cross-onshore breezes. It’s a pretty quiet spell for the Grand Strand.
Stay tuned, forecasts can change, but right now, the glassy Monday the 20th is the only real shot.
