The Lowdown
Alright, let me break it down for y'all. It's been real slow around here. We've only got Phillips Pump House on the cards, and it's been a tough stretch. Let's walk through what's coming.
Right from Monday the 10th, it's tiny. That first morning is only 0.3 ft from the south with a short 5-second period and combined wave energy of just 9 – real weak. Winds are cross-onshore, so it's choppy. That afternoon is the same with 0.2 ft.
Tuesday the 11th picks up a bit – 0.6 ft in the morning with an offshore wind from the west, so at least it's clean. The energy is still weak at 25. The afternoon gets cleaner with a slight cross-off breeze and 0.7 ft, energy up to 51. Still poor quality though. The swell period is only 6 seconds, so it's crumbly.
Wednesday the 12th morning is glassy – zero wind, 0.3 ft – but energy is back down to 9. Afternoon stays glassy with 0.6 ft and energy of 25. Clean as can be, but no power.
Thursday the 13th offers clean conditions with light winds, 0.4 ft both sessions, energy at 17 and 19. Friday the 14th is similar – clean but tiny.
Now, Sunday the 16th we get a jump: 2 ft from the south with a 6-second period and energy hitting 248 – moderate energy. But the wind is cross-shore and fresh at 15-19 mph, so it's lumpy. That's more of a kite-surfing setup. Still, there's some push.
Monday the 17th shows a glimmer: 0.9 ft in the morning, 8-second period, energy of 93, and a light cross-off breeze from the NNW keeping it clean. The score nudges to "surfable but very ordinary." This is the best it gets for the whole run, but it's still not much. It's a long-period groundswell from the south, which suits this breakwater, but the size is small.
After that, it's back to the doldrums. Around the 18th we get some 15-second period groundswell from the southeast – energy of 170 and 183 – but it's only 0.4 ft. That long period will make it straight and walled-up here. Winds on the 18th afternoon are onshore, making it worse.
The rest through August 25th is mostly small, weak, and onshore or cross-shore. A few moments on the 20th and 23rd show "surfable but very ordinary" with clean winds, but the swell is tiny – 0.5 ft to 0.6 ft.
Water temp is about average for this time of year.
Honestly, there's no standout session in this 16-day run. If you're really keen, Monday the 17th morning is the pick of a weak bunch. But it's a quiet spell. For an inconsistent spot like Phillips Pump House, these stretches happen. Forecasts can change though, so keep an eye out. Rusty.
