Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bay Head over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Bay Head over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you, it's a pretty bleak picture for a while. We're looking at a long, dry spell of junk surf before the ocean finally wakes up.
For the first 11 days, from this Friday the 10th right through to Monday the 20th of July, it's pretty much a write-off. Tiny, weak, messy waves – the combined energy is mostly under 100, which tells you there’s just no punch. The wind is just a constant problem, mostly cross-onshore, and the swell is coming in too small and from poor directions. You'd be wasting your gas checking it.
The good news is there’s a little light at the end of the tunnel. Things start to look a bit more promising around Tuesday the 21st. We get a noticeable bump in size and energy on Tuesday morning with swell from the S hitting 4ft and a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps up to 531 – that's a serious spike in power. The wind is still a bit cross-onshore that morning, but by Tuesday afternoon it cleans right up with a light cross-offshore breeze and the swell holding at a solid 4ft. That session is the real standout of the whole forecast.
Then Wednesday the 22nd morning looks golden. We’ve got clean 4ft swell from the SE, but the real kicker is the wind – dead glassy, flat calm. That'll be the cleanest the waves look all period. Perfect for a morning paddle. The swell period is 8 seconds, so it’s a bit short period and won't have the grunt of a groundswell, but with those conditions it’ll be fun. Just be aware, the crowd situation at Bay Head can get busy, especially when it’s clean like that. The water temp is sitting at a pretty average 72°, which is normal for this time of year, so no need for a thick suit.
After that, Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th still have some size – around 5ft to 6ft – but the winds get a bit tricky, swinging cross and cross-off. It won't be as perfect as Wednesday, but it’s still surfable. The swell period hangs around 8 seconds. By the 25th, it starts to look like it’s fading again, so your window is really that Tuesday-to-Thursday block.
That Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning are your best bets, so make a plan and get after it.
Rusty.
