The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Bay Head has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty flat and quiet stretch ahead. The whole 16-day window is a real struggle for decent surf. We’ve got a long gap of really marginal conditions from now until nearly the end of the first week of September. The first hint of anything worthwhile doesn't show up until Friday the 28th of August, and even then, it’s just a tiny pulse of weak, short-period energy. The water is sitting at a warm 76°, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
The only real standout, and I mean the *only* one worth circling on your calendar, is the morning of Friday, September 4th. We’re looking at a cleaner, glassy setup with a tiny 3ft swell from the ESE. The combined energy is moderate (246), and with that NNW wind glassing it off, it’ll be the cleanest the bay gets. The period is a solid 12 seconds, so there’s a bit of life in it, but it’s still a small wave. Don’t expect much. The crowds at Bay Head are a sometimes thing, but on a small, clean day like that, you might find a few others out.
Before that, the morning of Thursday, September 3rd offers a bit of hope with a clean offshore wind from the WNW, but the swell is just 2ft and the quality is still very ordinary. It’s a pass.
After that Friday the 4th, the window closes again. The rest of the first week of September and into the second week is a mess of onshore winds and tiny, weak waves. The energy drops right back off. It’s a long, flat spell. But hey, it tends not to stay this way forever, and forecasts can change. Keep an eye on it.
Stay patient, and I’ll see you out there.
