Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bay Head over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty checkin' in from the beach. Let's be real with you right off the bat – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and ordinary for Bay Head. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak, and messy surf ahead, so don't get your hopes up for anything epic. There's a solid gap from now until about the 14th of July where the surf is just not worth paddling out for. The waves are tiny, the wind is all over the place, and the energy is just not there. The combined swell energy is mostly in the weak range, often below 100 (57), so it's a real struggle.
For the first real chance at something, you're looking at Tuesday morning, July 14th. The swell picks up a little, coming from the ESE at 4ft, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind is a light offshore from the SW, which should clean things up nicely. The combined energy is a moderate 138, so there's a bit more push. It's still not a standout, but it's the best we've got in that first week. The water temp is sitting at 73°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
The afternoon of the 15th of July has a brief moment with a clean offshore from the W and a tiny 2ft ESE swell, but it's really small. Then we get a glassy moment on the afternoon of the 16th of July, with a 3ft ENE swell, but the period is only 5 seconds, so it's just a bump.
The real highlight in this whole 16-day window, if you can call it that, is the morning of Sunday, July 19th. We've got a clean, moderate offshore wind from the WSW, and a 3ft SSE swell with an 8-second period. The combined energy is moderate at 81. It's not big, it's not powerful, but it's probably the cleanest and most rideable wave you'll find all outlook. The offshore wind is a major positive here, so the surface will be smooth. This is a beginner-friendly break anyway, so these tiny waves are perfect for a learner.
Overall, keep your expectations low. The surf is pretty much a write-off for most of the period. The Sunday the 19th morning is your best bet, but even then, it's a small one. The rest of the time, the swell is too weak and the wind is often cross or onshore. It's the kind of setup that looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer on most days. Stay patient, and maybe check back for a new forecast.
Rusty.
