Table - best surf conditions forecast for 12th Street Jetty over the next 16 days.
Hey, Rusty here. Let’s run through what’s cookin’ at 12th Street Jetty over the next couple weeks. Brace yourselves, ‘cause it’s mostly a slow, flat grind.
We’re looking at a dry spell that stretches from now right through to the 20th of July. The swell is tiny – we’re talkin’ 0.3 to 0.8 feet, maybe a foot at best, with periods so short they don’t even qualify as groundswell. The combined energy of all swells directed here is mostly in the low hundreds or less – 21, 17, 4 – just weak, watery moments. Winds are a mixed bag of cross, cross-onshore, and sometimes offshore, but with zero swell size, it doesn’t matter. It’s just flat.
Water temp is a balmy 75°, about 3° above average for the time of year – noticeably warm, almost like a hot tub.
Then, on Tuesday, July 21st, we finally get a pulse. The morning brings a 4-foot swell from the ESE, with the combined energy hitting 279 – that’s the first real number we’ve seen. The period is a short 7 seconds, but the wind goes offshore from the NNW at 9 mph. That offshore breeze will groom the jetty banks and the beach into proper, clean little wedges. This is your window. This is the one session to circle on the calendar. Crowds can be a factor here when it’s breaking, so you might have a few buddies out.
That afternoon the wind goes glassy, but the swell drops to 4 feet (127 energy) – surfable, but nothing special. After that, it’s back to onshore winds and choppy slop from the 22nd onward. The 24th sees a 4-foot ENE swell, but with a cross-shore wind and a weak 6-second period, it’ll be a bumpy, frustrating mess.
So here’s the deal: you’ve got one real shot, and it’s the morning of July 21st. Everything else is a sandbar-watchin’, dry-hair kind of fortnight.
Rusty.
